prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

Yes, you might want to avoid using that one. It may have the word "romance" in it, but it's not very romantic at all.

[ With Ellis safely secured in his arms, Kaeya makes his way out of the bar. He'll start to head towards Ellis' farm to drop him off. Will they get to the home without any incidents...? ]

Yes, there are. I'll tell you over the sunset, so shall we?

[ They can walk over to a nice hill to watch the sunset! ]

[ Stargazing is one of her ideal dates for a reason. Kas' glowing makes the experience a bit more ethereal, but she's not going to say that. ]

[ Guess who has never owned a house or eaten at a table he had to set himself? This guy.

Trahearne moves about the kitchen, eventually finding plates and placing them on the table. Forks? They probably need those, too.

It takes quite a bit of rummaging on Trahearne's part to find everything and put it on the table... It is not set properly. Not at all. Sorry Kaspar. ]

[ This planet has a shitty name that keeps working against it. ]

...There is earth where I come from. [ ??? What else? How else would the plants grow??? What would they stand on???

The look of confusion on Trahearne's face quickly dissipates as he readies himself for a Lore Dump (sorry). ]

Yes, magic--an energy that permeates the very fabric of our reality. Those more adept at harnessing its power have developed convenient technologies for us--like gates. Two gates in remote corners of the world can be aligned aetherically to allow instant travel between the two locations. It's a bit like teleportation, I suppose. But not quite.

[ Trahearne can't help but chuckle when Kaeya does, though his is a bit more embarrassed. ]

You're right. It isn't. [ His embarrassment vanishes, and at last an easy smile crosses his face. ]

Thank you, Kaeya. I appreciate the tips. Genuinely, I do.

[ He is so hopeless when it comes to this stuff. ]

[ He is back to looking up, after meandering over her hair in the dark; content in silence or in listening to the sound of her voice. It is either the moment, his eyes still warm from past tears, or her being who she is, that make it easier to find words now. He honestly believed it would be different with women, alone and candid, but it isn't. Or perhaps it is just her?

With just the two of them as they are and the stars, Kaspar can breathe. Maybe she is right about relaxation. So, instead of responding right away, he takes a deep one. And at the same time, he straightens his arms out in front of him before letting them fall limply across the grass.

He seems happy, if a little noodle armed. ]

[ He looks down at Lucia and her two scoops... So having two different flavors is allowed. He didn't know. He feels a little silly. He doesn't think it's impressive, but...ah well.

He licks his new serving of ice cream, and visibly and physically flinches at how minty it is. ]

--Oh.

[ It matters little, really. Worms do not take long to cook, and Kaspar, once enveloped in a task he enjoys, is surprisingly efficient and attentive to the details. A pinch of whatever he'd tasted on walks and pocketed, after sloughing off the less tasty parts and parsing the meatiest into a dish. He is doing this all on whims, though it might be obvious how comfortable he is with a knife.

The batter he whips up gets cooked and folded into a version of a pancake he's swapped ingredients on to make it more complimentary to the earthiness, less sweet. And then he is scooping the insides into them and bringing both to their small table.

It isn't perfection by any stretch of the imagination, but it is probably uniquely flavorful and bold for some worms, carbs, and herbs. Before he sits, though, he pauses with his head tilted expectantly-- ]

[ Heading into the kitchen...

This is the scene. One hour (?) before the disaster cooking episode. ]

[ Oh, that's a surprise. Kaeya didn't expect that at all, so after he gets over that disgusting taste... ]

Now that's a first. People typically don't partake in their own dares.

[ Trahearne finishes setting up around the time Kaspar brings over the food, and he takes his spot at the table. Without much delay, he takes his fork and cuts a portion of the worms and pancake into his mouth.

And after a moment, he brightens. ]

It's surprisingly good.

[ He made the worms taste better. And also pancakes. ]

You're a talented cook.

[bluminescence]

[ Kaspar watches intently, standing beside their chaotic place settings. He always expected critique somewhere in his bones for attempts such as these. He'd lost himself in the fun of it, confident he'd like it himself but less so about the tastes of others here.

What he doesn't expect is the way that bright compliment punches him in the chest. His smile wobbles. Praise for something he actually put a little heart into makes him turn away completely for the short trip to his own seat.

Jaw clenched and ears a little flushed, Kaspar's wordless response is a warm smile and a reassuring nod once he sits. ]

[ He nods with a smile. He is glad to have helped! In the little ways that he did, but anyway, wow, look at that invisible clock! ]

Well, I say that it's time for me to take off. Do take care of yourself, Trahearne.

[calla]

Can you?

[ Kaeya gets up from his seat, but he wobbles. Oh boy... he can't walk straight, but he can at least try! ]

[ Luckily for Kaspar, Trahearne is neither a gourmet nor a food critic, and he could easily tell just how much fun Kaspar was having preparing their meal. Genuine enjoyment for an activity--especially one as useful and practical as cooking--should be cherished, not criticized. That, and Kaspar cooked for him. Who is he to complain?

Trahearne watches as Kaspar sits, absently aware of the flush on his ears, but makes no attempt to decipher it. With his own smile, he turns his attention back to his food. ]

Obviously, you can't.

[ He Xuan is protesting by sitting firmly in his seat. ]

Let's see you try. You can't stay seated forever.

[ Souji just smiles, seeing nothing wrong with them and just shakes the two VHS tapes in front of Ellis' face. Pick one!! ]

[ Luckily, no grass! They're seated pretty quickly, given a seat by the window. Their menus are quickly given next, which is just single-sided. There's not much, just small things that you may expect from a tiny town such as sandwiches or little appetizers. They give a drink menu as well. ]

I saw that you had getting drunk on your card. I know that we just met, but if you want to drink, you're more than free to.

[ Souji's doing his own square, so it doesn't seem fair to not give Ellis the chance to complete a square on his card as well. ]

[ He pulls out one of the jerky to hold out for the doggo to sniff and eat. He'll be calm and patient about the dog taking its time, if it does. ]

If I see them, though it's mostly with the cats. Do you at least like cats?

[ This is the best... Souji adores cats, so this is absolutely making his day. He gives her all the pets and scratches, using both hands to really squeeze those cute cat cheeks. Who's a good girl? Who's a good girl! ]

No, you're definitely not. It's a lot to take in. [ He says as he happily pets the cat, loving every second. ] Have you started on your bingo?
