That doesn't surprise me, the passage from Japan to England takes about a month, I'm led to believe. Pair that with the fact that the country opened it's borders only a few decades ago, very few of your people have visited this far abroad.

As for your highly uneducated and reductive assessment of Great Britain, yes, Scotland has quite a lot of sheep, and London as a major city does not have farming, however, that hardly encompasses our empire as a whole. Plenty of England is fertile farmland, and Scotland produces many other key crops aside from woll and mutton. That isn't even including all of the resources we are able to import from the colonies of the empire that span the globe.
