[ It's not unreasonable to plan for failure rather than success. Mishka is right. Ellis thinks he raises good points, despite how Ellis thinks "fate" is such a bullshit word even if, ironically, he had to follow the maker's plans because he was a character written into a scenario. Everything was planned. Should people choose to try and resist, it only makes the conflict much more flavorful--is what his maker would say. That's why you give them hope.

Then Ellis wonders, by trying to give Mishka hope, he's actually making it worse. Mishka would know better than anybody. Ellis has such few experiences to draw from, so what he says would be borne out of ignorance as opposed to Mishka's personal experience.

He sighs, putting his hands down for a while before raising them again to sign:

"I feel that even if you try to contain it to yourself, Adelis will still try and get himself involved, especially because of your curse. But by then, I guess it would be too late."
