karaoke party!
Who: Lucia and you!
What: Karaoke Party Time
When: Fall 20
Where: Cozy Kitchen
Warnings: n/a for now
[ On Fall 15th, a notice goes up on the noticeboard advertising a karaoke party at Cozy Kitchen on Fall 20th. It may be easy to miss with all of the pirate chaos, but Lucia will put a sign at the front of the restaurant to remind her fellow farmers of the event.
When Fall 20th rolls around, the smell of Lucia's food can be smelled from outside in town square. One may also catch another redhead bringing alcohol from his winery into the restaurant, or people from the other neighboring bar moving equipment into Cozy Kitchen. When everything's said and done, the restaurant is left with a nice evening setup. It's a small-ish space but there is plenty of food and alcohol for people to indulge in, as well as non-alcoholic drinks like tea and water. The karaoke machine is set up, and there are board games from the store that people can play while they're here.
People are free to sing, open mic style, as many times as they'd like. At some point during the party, however, Lucia will make it a point to play some slower songs on the machine and cite that it's been a while since the dance in Spring. Now might be a good chance to get one last dance in with someone before Winter hits! Finally, party games will be inevitable, so go ahead and participate or run your own. ]

[He folds his arms, tilting his head with closed eyes for a moment.]
...Regardless. I guess you could say I'm a cursed guy living in a cursed world. The cards were stacked against me from the beginning.

I'd guess it's hard not to assume things are always going to turn out a certain way for you, then.
[People get bitter after a while. It's odd, to think of Hideyasu at a time like this.]
Do people treat you differently, back home? Or is this curse of yours just something you have to put up with on your own?

[The light blue of his eyes seems almost cloudy, now.]
The problem is, abilities aren't all that they're cracked up to be. And most of the time, they're ripe to be used by others. It's a dog eat dog world. You either get trampled or you at least act nice to keep your head above the water. [...] My ability isn't...nice. I've used it to harm a lot of people.
[To think that something so giving as a grapevine can be used to take other's lives...]
Most people don't know about it, at least. Just the wrong people.

Stuck with a deadly ability, an unforgiving world...
He can't help but think that this poor young man must be deeply, deeply lonely.]
Is that how you think people around here should treat you, too? Or is it just hard to try anything else?
no subject
[And a bittersweet sort of laugh.]
Besides, even the ones I'm fond of are looking at others, so. Probably for the best. I wouldn't want to deal with me, either.

[Otegine doesn't trust The Glass, not one bit.]
Besides, I don't know if anybody would call you someone that's difficult to deal with. Not with how you usually treat others.
no subject
[And boy, he sure wishes he didn't.]
That's the guy I want people to know. When you get to know me for real, that's when things change.
no subject
You mean that you that showed up yesterday, I'm guessing?
[There's no disappointment in the question. If anything, it sounds like he's had this conversation before.
...
He sighs gently, tilting his head in a gesture towards the other side of town.]
...Come on. Let's take a walk for a couple minutes. I don't want anyone just barging out here on us.

[The mask fell, and something else was shown. That something else is like a root exposed, raw as ever, but maybe that's just another mask.]
[He's a bitter, anger-filled bastard, true. But underneath that is...]
Oh. Alright. [He doesn't seem to want to argue, nodding dimly as he moves towards Otegine to walk alongside him.] Fresh air does the mind good.

When the sounds of the party start to fade, he'll start to speak again. His gaze stays away, watching the setting if the evening in front of them, the far shore with the dull crash of waves against the low wailing of the fall wind.]
It gets a little exhausting, to keep chosing kindness.
...
You say you want people to know you like that, but you also don't seem all that happy keeping a real bitter side of you down.
Does it just feel impossible, maybe? To think someone will want to know or understand you just exactly the way you are, without wishing you could be something else?

[Like the ones he did on the farm. Like the ones he did for the Guild. Rinse, repeat. Put up the broom. Take it down again. Clean himself up for a cruel world.]
You got it in one. It is impossible. I've sinned beyond measure. [Hence why God Himself wouldn't love him. A great thought to keep to his heart, stewed in religion, right?] And no one likes an angry bitter bastard like me to ruin their day. I don't want to cause more trouble than I already have.
