dec event overflow.

prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

spring breeze

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

Yeah, I do. TRIGGER has a lot of songs, since we debuted a couple of years ago.

[ There are also dance covers and things like that too, but those are details he thinks aren't all that important to mention. ]

[ That response catches Kaspar off guard enough that he might've tripped if he'd been walking. Music seems to be such a free and enjoyable thing in Gaku's world while guns are illegal. It is almost more antithetical to him than the sky. The fact of his initial reaction has him even more surprised at himself.

It hurt my soul to type it like this but it seemed appropriate for Kaspar:

Does blood taste... the way it smells, to you?

[ Kaspar still speaks too casually, glancing over with another openly curious look on his face. He doesn't seem too worried about the logistics of bloody pancakes.

While the map might've told him where the grocery store was, it didn't prepare him for exactly what it looked like on the inside. It's fascinating, the mix of familiarity if he squints. He chooses to soak in the differences every time he finds them on this strange island. His eyes are bright but calm.

The list for pancakes is manageable, and he has some things at home already. But he reaches for Noé gently to hold the book open so he might lean over between them and look at the page as he skims the aisles. He is also easily side tracked and slowed by his own ignorance.

[ Usually Noé flusters people with myriads of questions, so it feels a little strange to be on the other side for a change. Not that he minds it—people react differently to this kind of a revelation, but Kaspar seems to be genuinely intrigued. ]

If it smells good, then it's going to taste good as well. [ For some reason, a light blush spreads across his cheeks. He's definitely not used to talking about it so casually with strangers. ] There are so many things here...

[ Kaspar definitely isn't the only one who's amazed by what the grocery store has in stock. It's so easy to get distracted by the various products and Noé finds himself turning abruptly into the other aisle to examine the foods a few times.

When it looks they have everything they need, Noé's eyes linger on the bottle of the maple syrup before he begins with a sheepish smile: ]

Ah, wait. I should tell you about one more thing. I can... read memories through someone's blood. It might be something you don't want to share, so... I thought that you should know that.
bluminescence: (06)

[personal profile] bluminescence 2022-12-15 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kaspar nods in agreement, willing to indulge both of their curiosities about the odder things. He keeps noticing the flush, though he does nothing but smile if caught looking. They probably could've shopped faster. But it wouldn't have been half as fun that way. Besides, Kaspar makes sure they don't forget anything too important.

The admission does have him look over to the vampire though, blinking and only looking even more curious than before. He almost trips. After, he keeps a leisurely pace and goes on with words, watching where he's going. Though Kaspar speaks softer somehow, despite his wild thoughts. He'd really hate to traumatize him, but he's more fascinated than anything.
]

... do you mean you see it? Feel it?
archivists: (095.)

[personal profile] archivists 2022-12-18 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ While Noé's quite familiar with the questions—most people who find out about his memory reading ability want to know more about it, mostly to protect themselves from it. There's something different about Kaspar though, even if Noé can't pinpoint it quite yet. ]

It's both, actually. Sometimes it's just images, sometimes it's just feelings. There's no rule to it, to be honest. So maybe these pancakes aren't such a good idea, after all. No one likes to have their memories read like that...

[ At least that's his experience. Besides, the last thing he wants is to be perceived as some kind of a monster. ]
bluminescence: (01)

[personal profile] bluminescence 2022-12-18 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[ It isn't that, so he shakes his head. Kaspar isn't sure how to explain it, but the light hum that follows isn't one of discomfort. He shifts the groceries into one arm, offering the other man a gloved hand for reassurance in the meantime.

After a beat, he asks something else.
]

... can it be, unpleasant, for you?
archivists: (109.)

[personal profile] archivists 2022-12-18 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Sometimes. But I'm always more worried about the comfort of the other person. They might have something they don't want me to see, so...

[ He takes Kas' gloved hand a bit reluctantly and casts his eyes down for a moment before raising his head and smiling sheepishly. ]

Sorry, I didn't mean to bring the mood down or anything. It's... I had no idea that someone could find it so interesting.
bluminescence: (01)

[personal profile] bluminescence 2022-12-18 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kaspar shakes his head and squeezes Noé's hand gently. He thought he'd been the one to bring the mood down, and not the other way around, but he can't find the words. Predictably, he smiles anyway. ]

... I still find it so.

[ Another beat of silence from Kaspar, distracted by the movement of birds and then allowing his gaze to be held by nature. For once, his words carry a sort of brittleness. ]

Have you seen war, before?
archivists: (050.)

[personal profile] archivists 2022-12-20 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the first time I've met someone so... interesting.

[ Interesting, not interested. The bits he's learned about Kas leave him wanting to know more and more. ]

Just read about it. I was lucky to be born after the war between humans and vampires ended.

[ It's obvious to him that the question isn't incidental. ]

Does that mean that you have?
bluminescence: (02)

[personal profile] bluminescence 2022-12-20 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kaspar looks over again. Interesting. He can't remember a time anyone said that about him without having seen him fight or forced him to bleed. It flushes his ears. He wants to counter that vampires are far more interesting, or that Noé is too even beyond that. Instead, he succeeds in not crying.

To the question of war, Kaspar's smile almost flattens as he nods, slowly, but it hangs on for dear life. His tone is still light, an undercurrent of something deeper. He is only talking about blood. And he would rather not speak of war at all right now. Now Noé knows, and is the only one that needs to.
]

... would you still like to try some?

Then would... any of these help?

Ooh, the bingo card! Well, let's take a look!

[He gently takes it to pore over... Going by the theme, a few of these squares do stick out to him. However, he chooses to be a little playful because why not, honestly.

He lifts his eyes off of the page and back to Kaspar.]

[ from here.

Evening approaches. She hadn't realized how long they'd been sitting here for, but time passes when you're admiring the scenery, she supposes. Seeing Kaspar bask in the sunset makes her appreciate it a little more than she usually does, and when the stars come out, she assumes he hasn't seen these either. His comment confirms that, and she looks up at them. Lucia certainly seems a little more enthused by the night sky, that's for sure.

Stars? Mm, they're nice to look at. What do you think of them...?

... beautiful. Far away.

[ Nothing shines that brightly from the depths. Kaspar looks over to her again. It's not hard to find the calm smile when it is dimly glowing in the dark. ]

Clear nights are good for relaxation, I've found.

[ He is back to looking up, after meandering over her hair in the dark; content in silence or in listening to the sound of her voice. It is either the moment, his eyes still warm from past tears, or her being who she is, that make it easier to find words now. He honestly believed it would be different with women, alone and candid, but it isn't. Or perhaps it is just her?

With just the two of them as they are and the stars, Kaspar can breathe. Maybe she is right about relaxation. So, instead of responding right away, he takes a deep one. And at the same time, he straightens his arms out in front of him before letting them fall limply across the grass.

He seems happy, if a little noodle armed.
]

... you watch them, often?
