dec event overflow.

prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

spring breeze

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

[ are we supposed to stop???? ]

Yours. [ Small smile! ] If you don't mind. We're not exactly equipped to have others over quite yet.

[ There are leaks everywhere... ]

[never, we're in it for the long haul now]

Very well. Please pardon any messes my roommate might have left behind.

[After ringing up the chess board and promising to pay for it in tomatoes or some shit later down the line, Diluc heads off in the direction of home. Fun fact: the mess he's referring to is Kaeya himself, but Trahearne can discover that all on his own.]

We've made reasonable progress on updating our farm, at the least. If you require any assistance on yours, do let me know. I'm not unfamiliar with manual labor.
pactmarshal: (lore dumping)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-12-20 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Will he ever find out they're roommates? ] I appreciate the offer--I wouldn't want to impose on you, but if we ever need an extra hand, I'll be sure to let you know.

[ He smiles at Diluc. ] I'm impressed, though. You've been hard at work. [ Some of these squares he isn't even sure how to tackle... ] Where is it you live?

[Possibly! Kaeya's cape is hanging in the doorway, so that'll be Trahearne's first tipoff. Their home is still rather modest compared to what Diluc is used to, but he nods, heading towards the rural neighborhood where they live.]

There's no sense in living beneath our means. Besides, I would hardly call this working hard, outside of the more unsavory options on this card.

[but maybe he'd have a mansion if he were willing to stick his flower dick in kaeya, who knows]
pactmarshal: (i'm listenin :))

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-12-21 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ wow????

At this point, Trahearne doesn't know Kaeya well enough--it's unlikely he'll recognize it. But maybe if he comes back again...

Living beneath one's means? He can't relate, considering he spent much of his life sleeping on blighted dirt. ]

I suppose some of the activities may come easier to some. [ He muses aloud. He means in general. Not calling you a whore, Diluc. ] Still, it is reassuring to see someone taking this seriously. I recognise diligence when I see it.

[ He's calling you diligent, though. He likes diligent. ]
pyronic: (diluc091)

[personal profile] pyronic 2022-12-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Diligence... He takes that as a compliment, not that it's ever easy to tell when Diluc is as stone-faced as he is. Once they reach the house, he holds the door open for Trahearne. M'tree?]

There's no point in working if you aren't working hard. That's all.

[But with that said, the best compliment to working hard is playing hard, and even a stick in the mud like Diluc can admit that. Setting the chess board down on the table, he motions for Trahearne to sit before wandering into the kitchen.]

Would you care for a drink or anything to eat?
pactmarshal: (they won't stop until everyone is dead)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-12-23 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
[ Trahearne steps through the door with an emphatic nod. That, he can relate to. How do you do, fellow workaholic?

The playing hard part he can't relate to, unfortunately. So as he sits down, he stares at the chess board for a moment. He's going to treat this like work, too. ]

I wouldn't mind a cup of tea, if you have some.

[ if he's offering. ]
pyronic: (diluc081)

[personal profile] pyronic 2022-12-24 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[A cup of tea? Certainly. Their kitchen is relatively well-stocked, so he nods over to Trahearne before pulling open the cabinet and rifling through the selection.]

Of course. We don't have a wide variety on hand, but we do have chamomile and earl grey. Do you have a preference?
pactmarshal: (it will be difficult but not impossible)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-12-26 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Chamomile, if that's all right.

[ Trahearne's gaze lifts from the chessboard, to the kitchen, then back to the chessboard.

He feels a bit awkward just sitting here, essentially waiting to be served. And so he reaches out to lift the lid on the box and peers inside. ]

You don't mind if I set this up, do you?
pyronic: (diluc096)

[personal profile] pyronic 2022-12-27 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Certainly. I'd appreciate it.

[He'll return with two cups of hot chamomile tea some minutes later and take a cursory glance at the chess board. It's not like he doubts Trahearne's ability to set up the board, considering there appears to be a handy guide along with all the pieces. But as he takes his seat, he's curious to see which side Trahearne has chosen for himself: black or white?]

Have you had time to look over the rules? Chess is only as complex as the players involved, but I don't intend to turn you off of the game entirely.

[In other words, he'll go easy on Trahearne, but not too easy.]
pactmarshal: (mmhm.)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-12-28 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ By the time Diluc is back with the tea, Trahearne has the board mostly set up. He's eyeing some pieces with a quizzical look, referencing the set-up diagram, putting some pieces he'd erroneously placed into their proper spots.

He has set up the black pieces on his side. ]

Briefly. I'm generally aware of the rules, but this is a good refresher. [ He places the last pawn down and smiles at Diluc. ] Some piece names are different from what I'm familiar with. You'll have to bear with me.

[ they probably would be... idk fantasy chess ]
pyronic: (diluc091)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-02 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Black, hm? Interesting. Diluc favors black himself, his gaze flicking between Trahearne and the board. It could mean something, or it may mean nothing at all, but Diluc will find out of his own accord later.

Sitting down, he checks to see that everything is in its proper place and nods. Milky doesn't know how to play chess, so we'll have to wing it, yo.]

Oh? And how are they referred to where you're from?

[White moves first, so Diluc does just that, deciding on a more defensive approach to cut Trahearne just a little slack. Just a little.]
pactmarshal: (mother would know)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-03 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's because he's a goth plant.

Trahearne watches Diluc make his move, and then looks back up to him with a smile.

Unkie does not know how to play chess either, nor is there any information on what chess is like in GW2 so all of this is being winged hard. Trahearne points to a few pieces on the board, offering the names he's more familiar with with a quiet chuckle. It's kind of funny to him.

And he makes his move, scooting a pawn forward in turn. A look passes over his eyes, one that betrays the calculations and strategizing churning in his mind, but it goes quickly. ]

Who taught you how to play?
pyronic: (diluc005)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-04 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Damn, that's deep.

Hm, but it's interesting to note that the game they're both familiar with has its own unique differences between their worlds. Interesting names... that he probably won't be adopting, but he'll use them whenever he plays chess with a tree from now on.

Diluc makes his move and it's, you know, what you'd expect from someone good at chess. I trust Unkie to understand exactly what that means... His approach is far from aggressive, but it's clear from how Diluc plays that he doesn't intend to lose.]

My late father. He was a busy man, but we'd spend our Sunday afternoons playing chess and darts together. These days, I'll challenge staff around the winery if I happen to have a free moment.
pactmarshal: (a good pose)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-09 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ It is obvious, though Trahearne is clearly not as experienced in chess as Diluc is, and the strategic wheels begin to churn in his head.

But when he looks up at him, his eyes are kind. ]

I'm sorry about your father. It seems he's left you with a wonderful gift that you now share with the others around you.

[ He genuinely means that. Other little facts about him stick in his mind as he reaches to move another piece forward. He's clearly Trying. ]

It was the scholars at the Priory--a group of excellent researchers who taught me how to play. My visits were not often long, but when they were, they would always insist I join them for a game.

[ He's a loner........ ]
pyronic: (diluc017)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-09 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[Forgive him for the rote response, but some years later and Diluc still misses his father terribly. There's more than a little conflict in his heart regarding the man as well, but this isn't the time nor the place to unpack any of that. Regardless, Trahearne strikes him as thoughtful and considerate, so it's not as if Diluc is offended, quiet as he is.

...Ah, and he's clearly trying at chess, which is appreciated. Diluc wouldn't mind practicing with him a little more often, but they'll see what the future holds, won't they?]

I would argue those scholars gave you a gift as well. Chess is not only a good way to pass the time, but it tests your wit and keeps your mind sharp. For what it's worth, I can tell you'd do well if you wanted to pursue playing chess competitively.
pactmarshal: (missed opportunities)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-10 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Losing a loved one hurts, no matter how much time passes, so Trahearne only gives a slight nod in reply to the thanks.

But when Diluc sends the same sentiment back to him, Trahearne glances up, flashes him a small smile, then returns his gaze to study the board. ]

Thank you. That's high praise.

[ He thinks for a moment. ]

I admit, it may have come in handy by the time I had to make strategic calls as a commanding officer. [ He pushes another piece forward. ] But at least a mistake on the board does not cost actual lives.

[ dramatic bitches ]
pyronic: (diluc091)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-13 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
[As a commanding officer... Oh Trahearne, he sure hopes whatever group your a part of back home is better organized than the Knights of Favonius. Did you know Diluc doesn't like the knights??????]

That's a fine point. I wasn't aware you were someone of great import, Trahearne.

[Which is Diluc's vaguely rude way of saying 'tell me more'.]
pactmarshal: (patiently waiting)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-13 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ jeez diluc... ]

That's all right. I doubt it's obvious.

[ It's not like he's wearing a uniform or a badge or anything. ]

I am both first of my people, and leader of the Pact--a military organization dedicated to thwarting my world's greatest existential threat: the Elder Dragons.

[ So they're not like the police. Or a paltry little knight organization. They actually don't care if it's not dragon related (and received a bit of backlash for that). Actually-- ]

But I consider myself a scholar rather than a fighter. In fact, it was my scholarly pursuits that led me to take up my position of marshal. Since this is supposed to be an exchange of hobbies, I'd be delighted to tell you a little bit about my research.
pyronic: (diluc004-pixiv-user-15166021)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-15 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Diluc's begun to pluck black pieces off the board, setting them to the side as his war trophies.]

It sounds like you've devoted yourself to a worthwhile cause, at least. That's a relief.

[Not like the police or a paltry little knight organization. Corruption can seep into any organization no matter how large or well organized, however, a fact Diluc keeps in mind as they shift topics.]

Go ahead. I'm curious to know what your research entails.
pactmarshal: (i wish i could've done more)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-16 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Diluc is good at this game. If anything, it inspires Trahearne to get more practice and ask for more matches!! They can be chess buddies. Maybe. If only he hadn't slept with Kaeya, huh?

There was a lot of corruption, but of the dragon kind. Oops.

Trahearne flashes Diluc a little smile as he pushes another of his pieces forward. ]

Gladly.

[ And as the game progresses, Trahearne gives a very succinct, well-worded, and enthusiastic summary of his research, and his personal history with the topic. He spent most of his life pursuing a destiny everyone thought impossible--he was meant to cleanse a land corrupted by the undead Elder Dragon. He goes into detail about the dragon, its minions, how difficult it was to find a way to purify the kingdom of Orr, and how it led to him becoming Pact Marshal... Enjoy his life story. I'm not making you suffer through another 20 comments, Milky.

Syrlya features, of course.

He plays the game okay, in part because he's distracted talking, but it becomes clear at some point that Diluc is much better than him. It's not a problem, though. He's still enjoying the game. ]
pyronic: (diluc091)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-17 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sure man. Diluc wouldn't mind another chess buddy once he, you know, gets over himself. Divorce your stamen from his chosen whore's ass and he'll consider mending bridges.

But also? Thank you for sparing me. Diluc is all about that life story however, listening with rapt attention. Trahearne is a good and respectable man when he's not dicking Kaeya down, Diluc thinks.]

You've lived quite the life, and an admirable one at that.

[...Said as he advances towards victory. Trahearne is holding his own rather well for someone with much less experience, and that effort is what will have Diluc asking him for more chess games in the future.............. once he gets over himself.]

That said, you're awfully humble for a man who has lived such a storied life. You're a rare breed.
pactmarshal: SKULL EMOJI (bruh i fukin)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-17 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Trahearne glances up with a wry little look at that comment. ]

If I had time to worry about myself, then that meant I was neglecting one thing or another. It's hard to be selfish when the collective lives of thousands of others were always more important.

[ Considering his fate...yeah. ]

...And now it's time to farm.

[ Silly how small that sounds in comparison.

He looks at the board; a hand hovers over a piece, wondering if he should move it--if he can make any moves at all. And eventually, he decides no. He drops his hand, sits back in his chair, and looks up with a refreshed smile. ]

I think you have me beat. Excellent game, Diluc.
pyronic: (diluc002)

[personal profile] pyronic 2023-01-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
[GG indeed. This will be the last time he smiles at Trahearne for a while, so soak it in while you can, bro. Settling back, Diluc nods.]

A good man knows how to quit when he's ahead. Thank you for indulging me.

[...And, perhaps more importantly...]

And thank you for allowing me the opportunity to get to know you. I can imagine we'll continue getting along well.

[🙂]
pactmarshal: (patiently waiting)

wrap <3 tyyyy

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2023-01-21 10:32 am (UTC)(link)
[ Trahearne smiles in turn. Losing doesn't bother him at all. If anything, it was exhilarating. He thinks Diluc could be an excellent sparring partner, if he were the fighting sort. ]

As can I. I'm looking forward to our genuine friendship, Diluc.

[ AHAHA. ]
