prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

Great! Then it's settled! What a fun little break from working the farm! I have some wine here at home, so let me go... Oh!

[He stops mid-turn toward the kitchen, suddenly a little befuddled.]

You know, I don't know if I found any painting supplies when I was cleaning this place out... We might need to make a quick trip to the general store.

[Which can be handwaved obvs.]

[ Ellis has thought about alternatives to using paint... and possibly a canvas, but he can't think of anything to use. Sure, they're on the beach and they could use water to draw art on the sand, but he's not sure if that would really count.

So he nods. It can definitely be handwaved and fastforwarded! Ellis can tag along with Sylvando and help him carry some things even though he's a twig. Don't worry about it. ]

[hypnowhip]

[Sylvando appreciates the help!! He handles the heaviest stuff no problem. While they're at the general store for the paint supplies, he picks up some extra drink mixers so he can make Ellis something fun and light on the alcohol.

It doesn't take very long at all to get set up once they return. The living room coffee table is quickly filled with paints, brushes, and two decent-sized canvases for the two of them to use. Sylvando grins as he returns from the kitchen with their drinks.]

Here you are, honey: a spritzer! [He places a glass down in front of Ellis. A big orange slice rests on top of bubbling pink liquid.] It's sparkling water with enough red wine to give you a taste without getting you tipsy! Well, that's the hope, at least!

[He sits down beside Ellis and sets his own, much redder spritzer on his side of the table.]

Had you been brewing up any ideas for your painting during our little trek?

[ Ellis smiles up at Sylvando in thanks when he sees the drink in front of him. He nods when he asks about ideas, setting up his space with what colors and brushes he wants to use. There's a cup of water that's meant for erasing the color on the brush in order to choose a different one.

That said, he takes a sip and is ready to go! He isn't very good at painting, only opting to doodling with pen or pencil, but he draws a sky horizon with lots of sky blue. ]

Really? Oooh, I'm very excited to see how it turns out! I promise I won't peek too much.

[He does stay true to his word on that as he gets to work, sipping at his wine every now and then while he mixes colors together. It seems he's going for a night setting in contrast to Ellis' bright blue sky. He starts with a deep blue and purple night sky full of stars, then begins to block in...what appears to be the makings of a ship sailing along the sea.]

[ Ellis sips the drink every now and then and continues to paint. Should he do this? Or this? He ponders, but he finds it harder to think as time passes and the more he drinks. This still beats full on drunk though, and Ellis is worse than a lightweight.

He eventually finished painting and he turns the canvas so that Sylvando can see it. It has a blue sky with some white clouds that he sloppily painted over it. The sky is pretty but the bottom half is not. It's full of tall gray rectangles with traces of red bricks and the bottom of the painting is just grass. The grass is navy blue. ]

[Sylvando's putting the finishing touches on his fancy little boat when he sees Ellis' canvas shift.]

Ready to show me? Okay!

[He lifts his head up and looks over...

Uh. Hm. Well, he puts on his most supportive voice as he takes a sip and gathers his thoughts.]

is that a city in progress? It looks wonderful so far!

[framestory]

[ It's really too bad that he doesn't hear the supportive voice, but he can tell by Sylvando's gestures that he's being nice--as if he wasn't always nice? Sylvando has been nothing but nice to him. Ellis nods and writes on his notepad. ]

[ Writing neatly is hard when you're tipsy. ]

[A-ha. The jittery writing in contrast to what he saw earlier gives a few clues. Ellis really wasn't kidding when he said he was weak to alcohol. He'll have to make sure the man gets home safely after this.]

Oooh! You were born and went to school here?

[Hopefully he's interpreting that correctly.]

[framestory]

[ Perhaps "born" isn't the correct word, but tipsy Ellis won't fuss about the semantics, so he nods regardless of how weird the answer might seem out of context. He seems glad that Sylvando got it right anyway and claps a little too, grinning. He's like a happy seal... ]

[hypnowhip]

I was right? [Wow, that's absolutely adorable. Sylvando can't help but clap along with Ellis.] Yaaaaay! I would love to hear more about it sometime! I won't trouble you with it now, though.

[He motions at the messy writing with a knowing giggle.]

Would you like to see what I ended up with?

[framestory]

[ Ellis quickly nods despite feeling tipsy. He wants to see! His curiosity is overwhelming him at this very moment. ]

[hypnowhip]

[Aw yeah, that's some infectious anticipation!]

Okay! Heeere we are! [He gingerly picks up the still-drying painting at its edges to present it to Ellis.] Ta-daaaa~!

[It's a ship sailing in the night! A very basic version of that image, though. Sylvando has creative talents but art is not his strongest.]

This is the Salty Stallion, my ship from back home! Isn't she adorable?

[Adorable is a unique word to use, but it is very like Sylvando to use it.]

She is practically invaluable for getting me and my companions around Erdrea.

[framestory]

[ Salty horse? Ellis feels like he can make the connection, but the ship must be impressive, because Ellis is getting the feeling that this isn't the exact one with full details. But still. Impressive. He scribbles on his notepad: ]

Majestic.

[hypnowhip]

[He grins after reading that.]

Tee hee! Thanks, honey! I miss her sometimes, but I suppose it wouldn't make much sense to have a ship here, even if there is the ocean all around us.

[He thoughtfully places a hand on his cheek.]

I don't think the Goddess would let anyone sailing out to sea fly...

[ Considering that the goddess brought them all here, he highly doubts that she would let anyone escape. Ellis nods, but... exploring the ocean in a ship sounds fun. ]

Do you think it'll be worth asking her?

[hypnowhip]

Hmmm... I guess it couldn't hurt, could it? Maybe there are some neighboring islands she'd be willing to let us explore.

[More resources is always good to revitalize their own island, right?]

[framestory]

[ Ellis nods quickly, but then he gets dizzy and falls on his back. Oh... so dizzy... help. ]

[hypnowhip]

[OH NO ELLIS, HONEY... Sylvando probably yells that verbatim, actually. He quickly dives to help him up.]

You really weren't kidding about your alcohol intolerance... But you did a good job with the bingo task in spite of that, I mean it!

[Goodness, what to do...]

I'm worried about trying to get you home in such a state... [Honestly, he could probably carry Ellis home, but the rural area is a biiit of a hike.] Would you be more comfortable resting here for a bit first?

[framestory]

[ Ellis is too dizzy and actually ends up falling asleep because being drunk makes him extremely sleepy.

But he'll be good and return to his own home after he wakes up!! ]
