| you put a fever inside me
▶ WHO: Adelis and you!
▶ WHAT: December open/Catch-all
▶ WHEN: Until January
▶ WHERE: All over
▶ WARNINGS: TBA
≫ The Hands-on Approach
[ he was hoping he'd be able to put off dealing with it for longer, but life is never kind, as he's come to learn the hard way. he's put a decent effort into the fields thus far, but as the days went on, it became harder to stand outside for long periods of time...especially under the blasted sun, which still made his eyes throb in pain. even it's warmth can't chase off the ice cold beneath his skin, which drains the color from adelis' features and leaving him pale as a ghost.
finally, he can't take it anymore. his pride be damned, he can't stand being nearly utterly useless. so he shoves that stupid card in his pocket, laces up his heels and attempts to make himself look presentable, and locks the door behind him on the way out.
maybe you're a neighbour, who's farm happens to be not too far. maybe you're passing by on errands, to and from town. or maybe you run into him in town itself, gaze latching onto the first tolerable(?) person to pass his vision. ]
...Pardon me.
[ he looks, well...not good. he's abnormally pale, circles dark under his eyes. while adelis holds himself up high, back straight and gaze sharp, there's an exhaustion clinging to his limbs that's easy to note. ]
I require your...assistance with something, if you've a moment to spare.
[ he's trying really hard to make it look like this isn't paining him to ask. ]
≫ Overdue
[ while not the sort you'd think to frequent the library, should you enter one day, you'll happen to see him with a rather tidy stack right next to him. the titles vary, all from various genres and tip sections, but judging by the scowl on his face, he's not having a particularly swell time.
there's an exasperated noise as he drops the one he was currently holding beside him, closed, with a soft thunk. ]
Useless. [ he isn't shouting it, but he isn't particularly keeping quiet, either, as he grumbles to himself. ] This would be far easier if I could parse half the bloody words they were using. 'Simple' my arse.
[ maybe he needs a dictionary. ]
≫ Wildcard

[He cants his head.] Is food scarce where you are from?
no subject
[ and his constitution is questionable now, so something he'd rather not risk. he'll stick to things he recognizes that aren't wrapped in a mile of dubious clear film.
he gives a derisive snort at that, although there's not a lot of hostility in it. ]
If the Weeping Pox or the Undead don't get you, then the starvation likely will. Nothing takes well to the soil. The fact it's so healthy here is jarring enough.
no subject
Mm, I'm sorry to hear that. [Land that is so desolate is heartbreaking to witness.] May I ask what happened to it?
no subject
I'm afraid agriculture isn't my strong point. That's simply how it's always been. [ there's a dismissive shrug. ] You could say anything struggles to grow under the dark of Ostoya's skies- the people included. Only the forests manage to thrive, and more often than not, most of what thrives in there you've no desire to meet.
[ now that a few minutes have passed, syrlya can notice a curiosity; despite a complete lack of heat between the two of them, adelis' hands now seem a bit warmer than they were, and the barest hint of color is returning to his face. ]
no subject
I see. [It does cross his mind that perhaps, Trahearne could offer insight... but by the dismissiveness in his reaction, it may not be of much help if Adelis doesn't know what existing efforts have been.]
Everything here really must be quite a shock to you. How are you faring?
no subject
really, how peaceful it is here is uncomfortably jarring. despite all his efforts, nothing really prepares you for...well, things being that different. his face twitches for a moment, before he gives a dismissive wave with his free hand. ]
Well enough, for somebody who nearly got blinded on the first day. [ he grimaces at the thought. ] Forget the nonsensical terms and objects, the sky has been giving me more grief than anything else.

...The warmth is fine. [ he'll admit that. especially now that he can actually feel it in some way, heat returning to circulating through his body slowly but surely, but even without, it's...pleasant enough. ] As is the...color. I was not aware things could be so vibrant with the absence of the moon.
[ and you can see so far, when things aren't cloaked in the night and the shadows. it's...been an experience. ]
no subject
Life is vibrant when it is allowed to thrive. [He'd give everything to assure that it could. He'd never want to see the Grove end up like Orr.] Though the most tenacious of it will find a way, even when it is not. Still, you should see the flowers when they bloom. They are many beautiful shades.
no subject
'Tis quite a feat to see anything thrive, really. [ anything that isn't the rich and undead, that is. ] But you're not wrong, I suppose.
[ begrudgingly. ]
...Flowers are not oft something I tend to give attention to. [ he's being honest. ]. But I suppose I'm already here, so if they're going to be there regardless, I wouldn't be going out of my way. Better than staring at the broken streets and the shadows.
no subject
Speaking of color, yours seems to be returning to you. [He gestures with his free hand.] Are you feeling better?
no subject
So it is. [ he absentmindedly examines their hands, especially the lessening of the wax-white of his complexion. he looks far more alive, that's for sure. ] Somewhat. It won't last for too long, but I'm grateful for the respite.
no subject
no subject
It will last me roughly half an hour, before I begin to lose it again. [ this is a souring fact, as his grip tightens unconsciously. ] However, I can tolerate it for a day or two...even though 'tis bloody exhausting.
no subject
[It's worrying enough, but he's gauging just how much worry is necessary given how Adelis came to him.]
no subject
Not to my knowledge.
[ it's a non-answer...he'd rather not reveal any extreme potential weaknesses, even if he isn't too sure on the details himself. ]
But I'd rather not risk it. Nearly keeling over from exhaustion is horrendous enough, nevermind how shite it feels.
no subject
Well, you can let me know any time you need help. Not just with this--[He lifts his joined hand slightly.] But I'm happy to provide assistance.
no subject
...Should the need somehow arise, I'll keep that in mind. [ somehow, like he'd really rather not rely on someone else so readily. brows furrowing, he takes a look at their joined hands before finally letting go sharply, now that warmth has settled in his bones enough to go with a far more healthy tint to his skin. ] I will extend the same offer, then.
[ it's offered rather neutrally- the scales are unbalanced, after all, even if only slightly. debts must always be repaid. ]
no subject
[He can understand that, even if he often extends more than he'll ever ask repaid. But sometimes you just can't do things alone, so it's good to rely on each other.] Is your farm nearby?
no subject
[ Fortunate he didn't have to go far, really. He absentmindedly flexes his hand as he pulls his glove back on, resisting the urge to grimace.
...in the absence of another person, the slow drain of warmth feels hollow. As usual, it's a disgusting feeling. ]
I've troubled you enough, so I believe I'll be taking my leave. [ he has limited time to make proper use of his energy, after all. ] Don't let me distract you from your business any longer.
no subject
[Well, that's not how it works here but he'll figure out the phone eventually.] Fair fortune, Adelis.
