dec event.

prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

spring breeze

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

Here I thought I had refined my act...

[ Not his mortal larping having holes in it. Many holes for that matter, but he takes the criticism. Note to self, keep trying to mortal better.

Also, he doesn't have to talk up the bartender now. Instead he asks to open up a tab for them and they can start ordering. Payment can be settled after. Bold in another sense. They're offered seats at the countertop which Zhongli takes.
]

I suppose it can't. I accept, then. [ Mistakes for the future. He peruses the drinks menu— ] Would you be willing to share a glass?

[ Suddenly. ]

[ Could've fooled him. One day, he'll make his peace with it. When prompted, Childe glances over where he's reclined in the seat, some puzzled stare framing his eyes. ]

Pretty forward, given everything! [ Nothing distasteful about it, though. Even now, eyebrows raised, Childe's just idling where he's seated, one elbow absentmindedly riding the table. Dropping his chin in his palm, he slides the menu the rest of the way over. ] Sure, pick. I don't mind. I'll share it with you.

[ Maybe a drink with two straws, perhaps... coincidences can be so interesting? ]

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-09 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it better to ask outright than play coy.

[ Zhongli's posture and dress really makes him seem like he doesn't belong in a usual bar, but he beckons the bartender back with a raise of his hand. House special for them to start, two straws much like Childe predicted.

With that set, he leans against the backrest, arms and legs crossed.
]

It's for the bingo card we were all given upon arrival.
sluice: (220924 (10))

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-09 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I prefer it, actually— [ Daring a sip, Childe pinches the straw back. Give him some time to interpret this flavor? But he doesn't particularly hate anything. ] —when you're completely unrepentant.

[ Unable to deflect his own attention, he's sneaking glances at him. Really, this curiosity is insatiable. ]

So you're going along with it? I thought you came here of your own choice. [ Vacation away from vacation or something like that. The power Zhongli wields is on an order of magnitude that Childe can't ever fully comprehend. ] Wasn't it your decision?
lapidation: (pic#15318159)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-09 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'll keep that in mind.

[ The popular drink is smooth with a hint of citrus, acidic and bright atop fermented depths. With the island lacking produce, this price for this glass may be more than one would expect. Not that Zhongli thinks much on it.

He uncrosses his legs and gently scoots his chair closer, then takes a sip himself from the other straw. Hmm.
]

The squares for the most part are harmless. I see no harm in sating my curiosity. [ Yeah!! ] As for the offer, I was still in the middle of making a decision.

[ Granted, Zhongli could have taken hours, days... Weeks... To decide. ]
sluice: (220924 (161))

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-09 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Haven't you already spent this long making up your mind? Who cares if it takes longer?

[ What's a few more weeks, juxtaposed with the rest of forever? Couldn't be him, contemplating how to live. Mulling over the sharp bite of sweet acidity melting on his tongue, Childe takes another sip. How rich. ]

... You were right about one thing. I can't afford to wait. [ He's part of an overwhelming hierarchy of murder; his absence will be keenly noticed, and there'll be plenty to answer for later on. ] Compared to that, how harmful could your card be?

[ Is there indiscriminate slaughter on there or something? Highly doubtful, but Childe's already pulling his own bingo sheet out to show Zhongli. ]
lapidation: (pic#15318166)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The Harvest Goddess is in a rush.

[ Considering that he's here despite not giving an answer, but he can think about it more.

Every once in a while, he does need a reminder that there are more differences than years to live. The minds of mortals are burdened by each passing day with mundane death looming over them; they can't always afford to wait. He toys with his straw, rolling it between his fingers, and nods.
]

You should hunt for a spouse soon before your disappearance raises concern. [ A harmless bingo card is exchanged. ] Has anyone caught your attention yet?
sluice: (220924 (91)1)

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-10 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not the type you marry. Even I know not to push that far.

[ Seems less avowed over tacitly insincere to angle for that now, when he's committed to being the Tsaritsa's pawn of his own accord. A union isn't always sacrosanct but it's several degrees removed from anything Childe's after. It's more sincerity than he knows how to ask for.

Staring down at Zhongli's very harmless bingo card, he doesn't bother lifting his gaze. ]

Anyone pique your interest?
lapidation: (pic#15318162)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-12 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Is that so...

[ With all that the Tsaritsa wishes to accomplish, he can see how a marriage would suffer. Zhongli doesn't pry. Those details can stay with Childe unless he wants to share.

For himself, he has had enough time to think about it now, when before marriage never once haunted his mind.
]

There are plenty of suitable prospects on the island.

[ It sounds very business. ]
sluice: (220924 (272))

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-14 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Matrimony with an attempted mass murderer is probably the closest thing to sacrilege there is. He's the scum of the earth, Zhongli! Ignoring the stuffy formality caged up in those words: ]

Oh? Like who? [ Setting the bingo card down, Childe peers over the glass, lashes casting heavy shadows on his face. ] A lot can change in a short time. No one special you're leaving high and dry right now?

[ Six thousand years is a long time to stay single. Surely Morax, with all of his worldly experience, already has someone to call entirely his own. ]
lapidation: (pic#16128881)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-15 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
[ Unless he's involved, Childe being a mass murderer and war criminal isn't his problem. Zhongli returns Childe's card and takes his back, sliding it into his pocket. ]

I didn't think you would be curious.

[ Doesn't answer because does he really want any possible meddling or teasing...? He's actually just lowkey bullying. Thinking very, very, very deeply on this based on the silence. ]

No. [ Predictably. ] No one comes to mind.

[ Marriage for love is a mortal concept—just kidding. No time. ]
sluice: (220924 (161))

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-15 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't I returning the favor?

[ Quid pro quo. Equivalent exchange should mean plenty to someone who brokers solely in contracts, even those unspoken and illicit in nature. Shoving the bingo card back in his own pocket, Childe sublimates his confusion into something a lot less horribly aghast. This must be what Irminsul considers forbidden knowledge. It's absolutely bonkers. ]

That sounds off, somehow. ... There really isn't anyone? At all?

[ are you a 6k yr old kissless virgin zhongli, please answer ]
lapidation: (pic#15322120)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-15 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
Between friends, exchanges aren't always tallied and numbered.

[ RELAX, CHILDE. If they were on business terms or the situation calls for it, he'd think differently on conversation—every action, every word, would serve a purpose. They're simply having a chat to chat now. ]

There isn't. [ His lizard brain is working hard, but not in the way that matters here. ] How is that strange?

[ SOMEONE HAS TO BE EDWARD CULLEN IN THIS GAME ]
sluice: (200001)

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-15 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
[ STOP NOT LIKE THIS ]

You seemed more popular than that. [ Ferrylady was smitten? What is this conversation? Why is he contemplating the romantic interests of someone who backstabbed him and then was chill about it? ] Not for lack of trying, either.

[ In a fit of something— intense bewilderment, probably— he's sipping on the straw Zhongli was using. Childe hasn't noticed. Don't point this out to him. ]

... I'm beginning to understand why you called your squares "mostly harmless".

[ In fact, all of them appear to pose considerable levels of harm to Zhongli's untouched maiden sensibilities. ]
lapidation: (pic#15322099)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-15 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hello? That is his straw? Was... His straw? In response to this robbery, he doesn't say anything. Instead, he will observe because maybe Childe will return to his straw and order will be had. Everyone needs a chance to correct their mistakes.

He won't be taking sips anymore until then. Whether Childe noticed or not, let's see.
]

The number of suitors does not matter if you have no time or capacity to spare. [ Rejected, politely but also indifferent. ] They are mostly harmless.

[ You can't harm yourself stargazing, but you can harm yourself eating someone's bad cooking and in general sex. His analysis is unparalleled. ]
sluice: (211024 (23)2)

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-17 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ His straw now. Suffer. ]

Retirement involves perks, doesn't it? Shouldn't you take advantage of that?

[ An opportunity like this is quite hard to come by! Childe's posture drops into languor, even if there's no eluding his stare, flickering between that pocket and a sense of tactfulness. Feels like he's always asking plenty of Zhongli, which is why he phrases his next request as an invitation that can be refused out-of-hand. ]

Well, humor me. Point out the harmful ones.
lapidation: (pic#16093265)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-18 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
I am enjoying my retirement, but some matters fall into place on their own. What happens happens, as they say.

[ So... Basically... He will do what he wants. Active pursuit of True Love (what is that) doesn't interest him right now.

His mind is drawn back to the drink which is also a beacon of leisure, but he can't take a sip. Instead his gaze falls onto his stolen straw... trailing silence deafening.

Suffering. What's also suffering is that you're making me do this Zhongli, unfortunately, has good memory so he doesn't need to bring out the card to name the squares. His fingers tap the surface of the countertop a couple of times as he processes.
]

Climbing a tree, cooking, and bathing.

[ The bathing square Zhongli assumes he doesn't need to specify the nature. French kissing would be here too if he knew what French is and what that means in this context. ]
sluice: (220924 (179))

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-18 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
[ Ignoring the period of exceedingly awkward silence and also the captcha: ]

You'd know when I meant you harm. I wouldn't hide that away. [ Plenty of time to instigate a fight once Childe can secure some kind of binding contract and seal off every loophole. Zhongli's good for his word; all he needs to do is force his hand into direct engagement. No avenue for refusal, then. Bloodlust isn't in him right now, though, only ruefulness. ] So, pick one we can do later. I can help you with squares like those.

[ As this isn't a bill he's footing, sipping whenever he so chooses is his right. This is what he's owed? Pinching back the straw again, Childe follows that gaze, strangely transfixed on the glass. Weird. Since placing the order, Zhongli hasn't gone back for seconds. ]

I take it you're not fond of the drink, huh.

[ The flavor profile is well outside of his own preferences, but his brain (and his wallet) remembers the citrus assortment he'd once bought for Zhongli. Maybe things have changed. ]
lapidation: (pic#15318156)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-18 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[ I'm too lazy to move all my threads out

At first, he isn't sure where Childe's penchant for harm fits into the conversation, but it's clarified. That's nice of him, he thinks, even if it's mutually beneficial.

Now he has to process the squares a second time through a different lens. They are varying degrees of harmful and they're also very, very different.
]

... When I had assessed harm, I didn't mean specifically for myself, but instead in a general scope. [ Risk assessment. ] One square is meant to create an environment of intimacy, which I believe the offer is better suited for someone worthy of your interest.

[ Because Childe is mortal despite his risky war criminal lifestyle, Zhongli can easily imagine him growing old, maybe getting a partner, owning a pet or something... Maybe a fish pond.

Oh no the drink. Uh.
]

The drink is bright and has a nice tang. I find it to my taste despite the flair.

[ And yet he only stares at the glass, not daring to reach for either straws. ]

[ so am i, so mutual suffering time ]

I'm not interested in anyone that way. Who knows if that'll change?

[ Chasing after the things he wants the most, Childe's only going to get worse. He can't curb this restlessness in him; he's no good at staying still, so predisposed to taking risks over any rewards. Nothing slows this endless plunge toward the things that are very likely to kill him in the long run. Thrown that question, Childe eventually answers. ]

Even so, would you give it up to me?

[ Might want to save it for someone special, who isn't nearly so dysfunctional in nature. ]

By the way, I already used both straws, so they're contaminated. [ Ah, so Childe realized it at last. Tipping the glass towards Zhongli, he's already contemplating whether to pluck the straws out. Would it matter at this rate? ] I can ask for another one.

[ Zhongli knows people can change, but he knows they can stay the same. Childe's life is his own, with all that comes along his way.

There's a sigh that carries the weight of thousands of years. He knows that it would be best not to tangle with the Fatui, but they're far from Teyvat and whatever ulterior motive behind this is barely worth his vigilance. In the end, they both benefit, this time equally.
]

You're troublesome, but I can handle you.

[ It's nonchalant, awfully casual, yet dressed in unwavering confidence for something many people should cherish. Zhongli just doesn't hold himself to those values...

The drink! Zhongli crosses his arms, as if he was forced to wait overlong.
]

So you will be returning my straw?
sluice: (220924 (32)2)

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-18 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, you're still planning to drink with it? [ Not enough incredulousness in the world to convey his intense confusion, but he's never understood Zhongli's decision to forsake that power he wielded, either. Some things just exist beyond human comprehension. ] Suit yourself.

[ Sounds obscene, but he'll go ahead and pluck the other one out, leaving Zhongli's straw behind. Have your fill of it, then, as much citrus as can be withstood. After all has been said and done, there's still roughly a third of the drink left. As always, Childe's seized the lion's share for himself. ]

Bold talk from someone who admitted to having no experience, anyways. [ The hypocrisy is overwhelming, but Childe pays it no heed. ] What if I end up taking charge?

[ Gonna sit back and let him do as he likes? ]
lapidation: (pic#15318164)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-18 08:29 am (UTC)(link)
I can drink off the rim.

[ He just wanted to know if Childe would return what's his!! Even then, it's just a used straw. Nothing much to gawk at? He isn't so bougie where he'd demand new utensils and additions.

Lifting up the glass, he takes a refined sip since Childe was mildly appalled. After, he swirls the drink in hand, observing how the ice and colors reflect the light.

Childe really had most of it. Wow. Rude.
]

As I said, I can handle you.

[ It is so vague of a statement yet it's meant to encompass everything. The lack of experience doesn't seem to unnerve him in the slightest. ]
sluice: (Default)

[personal profile] sluice 2022-12-18 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Aren't you considerate? Repeating yourself is only cause for alarm, you know. [ Bodes nothing well to be this vague, at this junction. Leaning back in the seat to stretch, Childe considers deflecting a bit more for all of a second. ] Fortunately, I'm partial to a good surprise. Here's hoping yours lives up to one.

[ Barring that, he can come prepared for a fight and then some. No big deal. His eyes are no longer on that glass and its draining contents in Zhongli's hand, but straight ahead, counting up all of the bottles on the shelves. Nothing like his favorite appears to be here, but Childe doesn't consume anything vaguely alcoholic for the taste. ]

Unless you plan to follow me back, you'll need to give me directions.

[ So he can stop by at some indeterminate point and menace Zhongli some more, as he's wont to do. How quaint, domesticity with all of these nebulous, ill-defined perks. Sounds almost like he didn't nearly send Liyue Harbor into a watery grave. ]

When do you want to meet up?
lapidation: (pic#15322125)

[personal profile] lapidation 2022-12-19 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ Zhongli tilts his head at the mention of surprise... Is he supposed to be the one bringing it? He guesses they'll see later, unless Childe changes his mind.

It doesn't take him long to finish what's left of the glass.
]

My plot is in the mountains. Quite hard to miss when you take the trail. [ Befitting of someone who once shaped mountains and created structures. ] When you visit, you should bring a fishing pole.

[ Implication: they can go fishing. When asked if they'd like another drink, Zhongli politely abstains. Childe can order another, though. ]

Without work, my days are freer, but I suppose the hours would be replaced with tending the fields. Anytime is fine.

[ If he's there, then he's there. ]
