prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

[ Well, after that fiasco with her roommate, Dehya's looking a little tired when she arrives at town square and listens to the Goddess' spiel. Dehya really isn't convinced that it's really worth listening to the Goddess (or praying to her, for that matter), but she knows better than to try and brute force her way out of this situation. What they need is information.

In the meantime, she can play nice. Tasks and these weird cards that'll net rewards... She's not fond of it, but she'll do some of the lighter ones. Love and romance aren't things she's looking for with people she doesn't know, and marriage? Marriage is not part of the plan. (At least, for now.)

So, she'll go ahead and approach people at random intervals of the day and make an attempt to get to work. Easy enough, right? ]

Hey. You're another newcomer too, aren't you?

[ Not the most enthusiastic of greetings, but she sounds casual enough. ]

[ Dehya may also be found looking pensively at her bingo card. There's also a small tabby cat sitting at her feet. It seems like she doesn't approve of the card, but – ]

Well...not all of them are that bad...

[ She can knock some squares off, easily. She approaches someone with her card in hand; her cat is at her side, and gives a little meow to the stranger in greeting. Dehya can't help but smile before she speaks. ]

Hey, if you're not busy, mind if I take a look at your card? You can look at mine if you want, it's no big deal. We can knock some squares out together. I'll even let you pet Pita, if you ask nicely.

[ She gestures at her companion. ]

[ This sucks, actually! Mira isn't pleased at all at having to deal with another god. This one seems nice enough, but they're not so easy to trust. Gods have their own ulterior motives, anyway.

They're so focused on their frustration that when Dehya approaches them, it takes them a moment. At least they don't jump or anything like that. ]

Yeah. [ They cross their arms. ] Seems like everyone who's gathered here is, too.

[tonings]

Yep, that's what I'm guessing.

[ She's honestly approaching people who look just as confused and concerned as she is, so. She'll just get to the point. ]

While I'm not fond of doing what the Goddess wants, I doubt a group rebellion's going to work against someone that powerful. We may as well work on the easier tasks and get the rewards she'd promised us. What do you say? Let's help each other.

[ sweats

They take a few moments to consider that. They're still not sure about the whole thing, but... she's got a point, which is frustrating. With a sigh, they run a hand through their hair, then nod. ]

Alright. Let's do it. I'm Mira.

[tonings]

Nice to meet you. I'm Dehya.

[ She gives them a nod. They don't seem too thrilled about any of this, so... ]

Don't worry, I don't plan on doing what she says for too long. I just want to see what her deal is and what tools we have at our dispersal, before we make an effort to strike back.

[Akechi can feel his IQ decreasing with the steady climb of his blood pressure the longer he spends in this town square. He would like to escape back to his mountain farm, despite how little he wants to agree that it belongs to him, and maybe dust the entire place, but nothing more.]

[He isn't paying overt attention to Dehya's approach, despite seeing her coming, and raises his head at the meow of her tabby. He lets her question sink in a moment, and then asks the pressing follow-up question:] Did you name it Pita because you plan to eat it?

[tonings]

[ That certainly wasn't what she was expecting him to ask her, though eating some felines isn't unheard of in Teyvat. (Gestures at all the Sumeru Tigers.) Still, she raises her eyebrow at Akechi. ]

No? She's been following me around, and it's not like naming animals after food's unheard of.

[ Sir, please!! ]

Rest assured, she's not going anywhere.

[His eyes pinch ever so slightly into a squint at her straightforward nature, and he squares his shoulders. When in doubt: fall back on nauseating old habits. He smiles, though the expression doesn't reach his eyes.]

No, I suppose not. Forgive me, the kerfuffle has me a bit snappish-- Pita, was it? [He looks to the cat, though he doesn't aim to touch it, then back to Dehya.] And you?

[tonings]

I get it, no worries. It's a stressful time for everyone.

[ She simply shrugs. Really, she feels that, and people are just coping differently, she supposes. But anyway, she nods at the question (while Pita blinks at Akechi), and when he turns his attention to her – ]

Dehya, from Sumeru. What's your name?

[ unlike the holi grail war, he supposes those summoned here had no real reason to feel any sense of animosity towards each other. it's an odd sensation and he half-wonders if this life is truly befitting for a hero, but regardless of what that answer is, he decides it was more imperative now to simply adapt to... whatever this was. admittedly, it'd easier when the company seems easygoing enough. when he's asked to share his...

he agrees easily enough. he comes up easily beside her, as he offers an relaxed smile to her and her cat. pita, was it? with that, he shows his card to her, his neck turning to also see hers in turn. ] You seem pretty relaxed, miss. [ a pause. ] I like it.

[ this kind of atmosphere. the vibe of not caring even in a situation like this probably meant she was pretty flexible too. ]

[tonings]

[ Relaxed? That gets a little smirk out of her. ]

Yeah, well, there's no point in trying to fight back when we're at such a big disadvantage. I was just part of an operation that tried to take down a higher power back at home, so I know better than to go in guns blazing.

[ Which implies that she absolutely has no qualms against trying to stop the Goddess, but now? Nah. She's here to vibe...kind of. She grins at the man and takes a look at his card.

She's going to blatantly not point out the "phone sex" square – what even is a phone, anyway – and hum a little at another square in particular. ]

What is 20 questions, anyway?

[ well, she's not entirely incorrect. while achilles didn't like the idea of being given orders— with their expectations, also came some degree of... freedom. it's enough flexibility where it doesn't entirely leave a bitter taste in his mouth. either way, he figures they could just do as they wanted. which is precisely what he plans on doing.

... and he gets the feeling this woman wasn't so different? he gives a brief hint of a laugh. ] Sounds like you knew how to have some fun at least. [ since that did sound a bit dangerous, and what was life if not brazenly lived on the edge? but, at that last part...

he pauses. ] Uh— [ calculating... ] Maybe it's quiz game? A method of interrogation?

[tonings]

[ She truly isn't, actually. She'd very much like to go back home, because she had things she was planning to get to, but since they're here, well...might as well play along for the time being. ]

Interrogation? In a place that we're supposed to find love in?

[ ... ]

Actually, that isn't so silly. Gotta make sure we're getting all the facts from our potential matches, right?

[ She's absolutely being sarcastic. ]

[ Ellis nods and is about to get his bingo card out, but then... "pet Pita"? Flatbread? He's very confused until Dehya gestures to the cat and his face lights with realization. He understands now. He thought Dehya wanted him to pet a flatbread for some reason...?

Anyway, he hands her his bingo card. He's gotten a handful cleared already, with those being: hug, tickle, hand holding, climbing a tree, and head pat. ]

[tonings]

[ Oh, he's a quiet one? That's fine, she can work with that. She takes his bingo card and, first and foremost: ]

Whoa! You already knocked some out? Well, good for you.

[ She'll show him hers in exchange. ]

Hmm. How do you feel about camping?

[framestory]

[ His eyes seem to light up at the prospect of camping. It sounds fun! However, they just got here, so Ellis isn't sure how to get camping materials. Sleeping bag, tent... kindling? Does he need to chop wood for that? Dehya looks like she can do anything, honestly.

He nods anyway. ]

[tonings]

[ Awesome. She grins at his enthusiastic seal of approval and tucks her card away. ]

Great. I've done it quite a bit, so it'll be a piece of cake.

[ She tilts her head and folds her arms over her chest. ]

How about we get it out of the way tonight? Too soon, or does that work for you?

[ Gaku raises his eyebrows when Dehya approaches him, mostly because he isn't used to being approached so casually. It's nice. ]

Yeah. Gaku Yaotome. What's your name?

[ Might as well get that task knocked out, right? ]

[ There we go. That's one thing down! Look at them go. ]

You caught on quickly. I would've introduced myself first if you hadn't. Eager to get some of those tasks done?

[ He smiles. ]

Plus, it helps both of us out. You'll get seeds too.

You're ready to commit to the farming thing, huh?

[ She doesn't sound judgmental, at least. Honestly, she can't even blame the guy. ]

Not like we have much of a choice. It's just that most of the people I've met seem to be staunchly against it – it's not a bad thing that you're willing to adapt, though. So, let's keep helping each other out.

Is it that easy to tell? Do I really look that lost to you?

[ More like everyone in this place exudes that "dazed and confused" aura to varying degrees, and Childe's no exception to the rule. He carries himself a little better, but the strain's there, perceptible: his right hand's tenses up before it immediately goes slack, stifling the reflex. Maybe she noticed, maybe she didn't.

Either way, he'll carry the lion's share of good humor and stop to greet her, even if he's smiling widely in a way that never bothers to reach his eyes. ]

Well, let me know what I can do for you.

[ That is why she stopped him, right? ]

[tonings]

...Yeah?

[ She says this like it shouldn't even be a question. Dehya's quite perceptive, more than people might expect; she has to be. That's just part of being a mercenary, after all. And she's seen people like him – where their smile doesn't quite reach as much as they may think it does, perhaps – but it doesn't bother her. ]

I just wanted to know if you'd be amenable to introductions. It's the easiest thing we can get out of the way, don't you think?

[ They may as well see what they get out of it. ]

[sluice]

[ Way to absolutely set him off. Amicability isn't a front for him, it's a state of mind, but Childe's already scanning her more thoroughly. Can he spot a Vision on her? Anything of note?

His own Vision is strapped a hip, but he's a maniac that doesn't give a damn either way. Tactfulness just isn't in his nature. ]

Sure. [ So glib of him. ] Tartaglia.

[ No mention of his other alias, apparently. ]
