prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

[ When he peeks over Ellis, who stands at a height of 5' 11"/180cm, he'll be able to see his bingo card in full view. So far it looks like he has tickling, hug, tree climbing, hand holding, and head pat checked off.

Though Ellis notices and turns around to see him, startling a little. Did he want something?! ]

[pactmarshal]

[ When Ellis starts, so does Trahearne. He flinches back, eyes snapping up from the card to the person. ]

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to spook you.

[ He looks at the crossed squares, then lifts his gaze again. ]

You have some done already. I'm impressed.

[framestory]

[ He nods and grins. Might as well get it started, even if it yields him nothing like how some people suspect (and rightfully so). Ellis holds up the bingo card to his own face and stares at Trahearne. Does he want to do one?

[pactmarshal]

[ Trahearne smiles in turn, leaning over to get a closer look at Ellis's card.

It seems all the easiest ones have been done already... No wonder. But his eyes do settle on one they have in common. ]

Here. [ He points to one square and reads it aloud-- ] How about we feed the local animals?

[ Where the feed is and where the animals are...is a mystery. ]

[framestory]

[ He nods, but then looks thoughtful. Where would they get food... The goddess said something about growing their own stuff, but. Food? Does that count? He looks back at the pamphlet and gasps, immediately pointing at the "grocery store" and showing Trahearne.

Do not ask him to pay. He will not pay. ]

[pactmarshal]

[ Trahearne watches Ellis intently, and he brightens. He doesn't realize he's paying (with money he doesn't have). ]

You're right. The grocer's would have food. [ They can worry about finding the animals later. He gestures with his head in the general direction of the grocery store, and sets off. ]

What is your name, if you don't mind me asking?

[framestory]

[ Ellis flips through the pamphlet some more and points to his own name: "Ellis". Here it is! And now he'll try to lead Trahearne so that they can go to the grocery store. He seems pretty excited at the prospect of feeding animals. ]

[pactmarshal]

Ellis. [ Trahearne flips to his own page and points to his own name. ] I'm Trahearne. It's lovely to meet you.

[ He sticks right beside Ellis all the way to the grocery store! ]

I'm not sure what sort of animals we'll find, or what they'll eat. Shall we split up and grab what we can?

[framestory]

[ When Ellis gets to the grocery store, he thinks. Seeds are probably not here, but he makes his hands into a vague shape of an apple. He thinks apples are healthy to eat no matter what animal they are, though he wouldn't know for sure.

...

After looking around, he points to the raw meat area. Does Trehearne want to go there? ]

[pactmarshal]

[ Trahearne tilts his head at the gesture--small and round. Like a fruit? Probably a safe bet--

And he follows with his eyes Ellis's indication, from him to the meat and back to him. And after a beat, he speaks. ]

...Meat? Are we feeding bears?

[ He was picturing like. ducks. ]

[framestory]

[ His face almost turns as white as his hair. Bears?? There are bears??? He shakes his head and makes a hand gesture that seems to relate to either foxes or dogs. ]

[pactmarshal]

--Oh. Yes. That makes more sense.

[ He isn't sure why he thought bears at first. ]

Right. I'll go get the meat. You get-- [ He makes the apple shape with his hands, mimicking Ellis. ] --and we'll meet back here.

[ With a quick nod, he turns on his heel to do his job. ]

[framestory]

[ Ellis nods too and goes off to gather fruits and whatnot that would be good to feed wild animals with. He found some apples and small crackers with some bland flavors of what he knows of. After gathering his findings, he goes back to where he separated from Trehearne to wait for him. ]

[pactmarshal]

[ Trahearne returns with a small pack of sliced beef, pork chunks, and a smile on his face. Ellis's selection seems respectable! ]

Are you ready?

[ He may have forgotten about the part where they have to pay. ]

[framestory]

[ Ellis nods several times and tries to copy a running stance. Shortly after that, Ellis holds onto his items tightly before running out of the store!!

They don't actually have to pay, so Ellis looks like a fool. ]

[pactmarshal]

[ Trahearne watches on, puzzled, as Ellis practically races out of the grocery store.

His head is tilted, confused, as he emerges not long afterwards, the meat cradled lightly in his arms. ]

What was that for?

[framestory]

[ ...

Ellis looks at the grocery store behind Trahearne. Nobody is following them? No one scolding them for stealing things? Huh?? He blankly stares for a moment before moving that stare to his face.

...

A dog barks in the distance at the two, but it's not like Ellis is paying attention. ]

[pactmarshal]

[ Trahearne follows Ellis's gaze, to the grocery store, back at him, then back to the grocery store. He doesn't see anything wrong with the shop, or anyone following them. Why did he run...?

The barks get him back on track, though. ]

Come. [ Trahearne nods his head in the direction of the barks and sets off. ] Those sound like hungry barks to me.

[framestory]

[ Perhaps Ellis will explain to him later, because the dog takes priority. He follows Trahearne to the dog, which wags its tail happily upon seeing the two. It sniffs Trahearne a lot though. Hello, mister... you smell fresh.

Ellis pulls out a cracker and holds it towards the dog. It eats it immediately. The dog must have been hungry... ]

[pactmarshal]

Hello there. [ Trahearne crouches down by the dog, letting it sniff him. Please don't eat the salad...

Once Ellis has fed the cracker to the dog and it works on it, Trahearne unwraps the beef and holds out a slice for the puppy. Maybe he did it a little too soon, because the smell entices the dog and it looks in bewilderment between its half-eaten cracker and the fresh slice of beef, not sure which one to take. ]

[framestory]

[ When it looks like the puppy has a hard time deciding, Ellis takes the cracker back so that its only option is to go for the meat. It's so cute... The puppy's tail wags so much as it happily chews on the meat, though it might be a little big for it. ]

[pactmarshal]

[ It needs the meat to become big and strong! Maybe.

Trahearne lets go of the meat as the puppy begins chomping on it and reaches to give it a good scratch behind the ear. ]

It seems we came at the right time. [ He smiles at Ellis. This is one hungry puppy. ]

[framestory]

[ Ellis nods enthusiastically, looking happily down at the puppy. It's really cute to watch it eat like that. It looks like it's struggling to cut the meat off in some parts though. ]
