prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

[ Ellis nods. He can't hear him, but the moonlight shows what Diluc is saying, so that's good enough for him.

Unfortunately for Ellis, he's a city boy. He's never farmed or grown a single plant in his life. That's why he's curious about what Diluc is doing, so he mimics the motions of tilling the field and tilts his head. What is this. ]

[...Ah. It dawns on Diluc that Ellis might not be capable of understanding him, or rather... he's deaf, isn't he? Diluc doesn't speak any form of sign language, so this may complicate matters, but not much. Diluc isn't much for words anyway.

Taking up the hoe, he stands at Ellis' side so he can see how it's done, swinging the hoe overhead and shifting the earth beneath the blade. After doing so a couple times, he hands it to Ellis so he can give it a try himself.]

[ Ellis watches carefully and takes the hoe when Diluc gives it to him. He raises it overhead to strike at the ground! It did not dig much into the earth. Sorry, he doesn't carry a claymore every day--Ellis is a scrawny twig.

But he tries again anyway. It's better this time, but not all that much. ]

[He'll get there if he keeps trying. Diluc gives in an encouraging nod... but what else can he do? He'd love to tell Ellis not to bother with humoring the goddess' whims at all, but there's no easy way to say so right now.

...That's an idea, actually. Motioning for Ellis to put the hoe down, Diluc points to the nearby forest. Care to take a walk with him?]

[ Ellis puts the hoe down as instructed, but he wonders why Diluc isn't saying anything anymore--if he caught onto the fact that he's deaf. Hm. Well, no matter. He gets out, dusts his hands away from Diluc, and nods. Time to go to the forest! He hasn't quite been there yet, so he looks pretty excited to go.

Though honestly, it's a good thing Diluc isn't of the shady sort or this would be all sorts of trouble. ]

[Despite dressing himself in all black, Diluc doesn't come off as all that sketchy, but that may have something to do with the way he carries himself. Regardless, he leads Ellis with confidence, having gotten the lay of the land earlier on his own.

As for what he intends to do here? Well, Ellis will find out just as soon as they stop before the Goddess' pond. Removing his Vision from his belt, Diluc plunks it in the water and waits, folding his arms. Come out, come out, Goddess.]

[ Oh, he remembers this being one of the tasks on the board. Ellis figures he should join in so he goes through his pockets and pulls out a pebble, tossing that into the pond. Look, he's a dirt poor uni student. Leave him alone. ]

[ As promised, the goddess rises from the pond and surprisingly, she isn't drenched. She stands with the vision in one hand and a sky blue marble that bears resemblance to a vision, but it's obviously not it. ]

Now, now. Does this really matter so little that you would toss it into the pond with no thought, boy?

[ Oh no, she's hot!!!

But Diluc is hotter!!!! ]

[ Also, hello? What is this garbage? You expect her to eat this? She flings the pebble right at Ellis' forehead and it's a direct hit.

The goddess curses Ellis with a headache for an entire day. ]

[ He's thankfully not bleeding, but he covers his face with his hands.

Pain.

Was it worth it?

No, not really. ]

[Okay, wow. He already disliked the Goddess, but now he likes her even less. In fact, he's moving Ellis behind him so she can't inflict any more harm on him without going through him first.]

Do my affairs back home matter so little to you that you would pry me away from them just to tend to your fields? It's you who ought to think.

[Yeah, this is going wonderfully so far.]

Yes.

[ As in, they matter that little to her. She ignores Ellis who is promptly and quietly suffering in the background. He'll be fine. Maybe.

Anyway, she holds out both of her hands. One has his vision, and the other a cool sky blue marble. ]

Which one of these did you drop, boy?

[ This is my shitty take on the gold/silver axe decision ]

[Considering she's stripped any meaning out of his life by bringing him here, what good is his Vision? He doesn't know what emotional connection Ellis has to that marble, if any, but that's what he points to.]

The marble. Hand it over.

[He's not interested in playing her games. He wouldn't have thrown his Vision into the pond had he not been willing to lose it, so she can keep it for all he cares. This wouldn't be the first time he's thrown it away.]

[ The goddess smiles and the pyro vision is tossed to Diluc. It's up to him whether he catches it or not. If he doesn't, it'll just land on the grass next to his feet. ]

Take better care of your belongings. You may never know what happens to you when it's gone forever.

[ With that, she sinks back into the pond. ]

[ Is she gone yet? Ellis raises his head once the goddess left and looks up at Diluc while rubbing his forehead. ]

[He'll catch his Vision with a huff, attaching it back to his belt, but he's far from satisfied. He didn't even get what he wanted out of this conversation, if it can even be called that... but oh well.

More important now is checking on Ellis, and for a moment, Diluc's forgotten about the fact that Ellis can't hear him. He turns around to face him.]

Are you alright?

[ Ellis is about to nod, but then he feels a headache coming on. It must have been from the pebble to the forehead, is what he's thinking. He holds his head with both hands and whines. ]

[Diluc clicks his tongue, expression pulling severe. He's angry, though not with Ellis. This is his own fault, after all.]

...You shouldn't be moving around in your condition. Here.

[Turning around, Diluc drops onto a knee and offers his back to Ellis. He'll carry him back, and seeing as this is his responsibility, he'd appreciate if Ellis would let him handle things from here.]

[ Ellis isn't sure why Diluc is turning around until he drops to a knee and offers his back to him? He didn't think Diluc would be so kind, and he won't pass the chance, so he slowly and carefully gets on Diluc's back, trying to make it easy for Diluc to carry him.

Also, damn. This guy is hot in more ways than one. The warmth is comfortable though. ]

[He'll manage to carry Ellis with ease regardless, looping both arms under his thighs to more easily support him. It's evident Diluc is used to heavy lifting.

For now, he's taking Ellis back to his farm. Kaeya is no doubt getting drunk somewhere and won't return for a while, so Diluc brings Ellis to the bedroom and lowers him onto the mattress.]

How is your head feeling? Are you still in pain?

[ Ellis had his eyes closed the entire time and didn't feel that Diluc was saying anything since he didn't feel sound vibrations on his body. When they're at Diluc's home, Ellis finally opens his eyes and... huh. He's at his home? And the way Diluc puts him on the mattress is so... gentlemanly. Kyaa, Diluc-sama... Ellis would probably blush at this if he wasn't truly who he was, so he just stares blankly.up at the ceiling but squints at the same time because this headache isn't going away.

He puts both hands on his forehead to tell him that his head still hurts. ]

[...That's as good a confirmation as any. Sat on the mattress' edge, he places his hand on Ellis' shoulder to draw his attention.]

Stay here. I'll go into town and get some medicine.

[But he'll wait for Ellis' response before he takes off just in case he needs anything else.]

[ Diluc is so warm... he wants to cuddle instead, but he shakes his thought out of his head and just gives him a small nod so that he doesn't worsen the headache. ]

[Alright, he'll be quick. Diluc runs, in fact, into town to grab medicine along with a couple things from the grocer's. He returns ten minutes later with some pain reliever and a mug of hot tea, entering the bedroom to rest a hand on Ellis' forehead.]

I've brought medicine. Can you sit up?
