mid-month event

With Crescentview’s newest citizens settling nicely, the Goddess has summoned everyone back to Town Square for another round of announcements. This time, her summons comes to you in the form of a hand-written note. If you happen to be out working in your field, one of her fairies will hand it directly to you, looking a little more sprightly than they did the first time you saw them. Otherwise, expect to find her request/demand to meet up in Town Square in your mailbox.

introducing: the memo board

The Memo Board is now available in Town Square. You may post messages here to your fellow neighbors, send out requests for assistance on the farm, or even solicit local singles for hot dates! Post whatever you like whenever you like. You can even post messages to the board anonymously if you so desire. The Memo Board is available here.

But wait, there’s more! The Goddess has given everyone a fun relationship-building exercise. How well do you know your neighbors? Can you identify them based on their writing alone?

By December 22nd - 12:00pm EST, please have your character submit an anonymous message to be posted to the Memo Board. Their message can be about anything they’d like and there is no length requirement or restrictions. After submissions have been received, characters will be given an opportunity to review everyone’s messages and guess which character wrote which memo. Answers will be revealed on December 29th - 12:00pm EST. A single correct guess will earn you a horse while each additional correct guess will net you a vegetable, flower, or mushroom spore seed bag of your choice. Good luck and have fun!

it's time to dance!

Every Spring 15th, the annual Flower Dance is held in Town Square. Villagers gather to dance with one another and celebrate the upcoming harvest and offer their prayers to the Goddess. Folks are encouraged to dance not just with those they fancy, but their fellow neighbors as a way to express gratitude and appreciation for the friendship and company they provide.

ICly, the dance takes place on Spring 15th and goes from 9am to 9pm.

In addition to the tasks currently available on the Task Board, a handful of new additions have been added. You may continue to work on tasks from the previous event in addition to these new tasks, but please note that tasks may only be completed within the month they are assigned. Summer starts next month, so please have all of your tasks completed and submitted by then!

The new additions are as follows:

1. Post a notice on the Memo Board. Stick up an anonymous memo and earn a single chicken or rabbit to add to your coop. You may post as many notices as you like, but you will only redeem the reward once.

2. Correctly guess who posted a memo. Discuss these anonymous notes with one another and guess who may be the author. Between December 22nd and December 29th, submit your IC votes (link coming on the 22nd) and if you guess correctly, even just once, you will get a horse! You may guess as many times as you like, but you may only redeem this reward once.

3. Partake in the Flower Dance. Pick a partner for a round of dancing, pray to the Goddess, or just celebrate the good times! For every person that you celebrate the event with, you will receive a random bag of seeds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, or mushroom spores. This task can be completed 5 times.

4. Send a letter to your neighbor. This requires you to have acquired the stationary set from the first event, so if you haven't claimed it yet, get to it! You can post letters directly on the main community or set up an inbox in your journal to send and receive hand-written letters. For each letter that you send, you will get a random gacha item. This task can be completed 3 times.

5. Harvest your crops. On the 14th, you'd be surprised to find that all of your crops are now ready for picking - even if you've only planted them the day before. The crops look bright, flavourful, and ready to be picked, so eat them, trade them, sell them, whatever! For every interaction that you have involving the bountiful harvest, you will receive a new set of clothes. This task can be completed 3 times.

[But he will, if he needs to. The forest gets more wary looks from Konoe, as the subtle differences with his own natural environment throw him off. Focusing on the farms are best for now, and he spends more time looking at the fields and crops than the houses. His priorities will learn towards tending their own food supply instead of fixing the farm.]

[ I hope things thriving and not dying will put Konoe's mind at ease, even if a little. Danielle looks over their crops too. Good thing that they're not starting off with nothing, since they have something in their poor, small fridge. ]

I guess they're somewhere else for now.

[ So Konoe can't assess their loss of soul. ]

[The bio-luminescence is going to freak him out a little and he may rant about curses sometimes, but once the crops start yielding, he'll be less apprehensive about it all. A little.]

Or they've gone home.

[He doesn't think they have, but it's nice to entertain that possibility as they check out the nearby farms.]

So... if this magic works, the roof should be patched when we return?

[ Danielle doubts that they've gone home, since she heard that the goddess took great pains to bring them here. She expects to be here for Some Time, though she definitely doesn't want to be here forever. She has things to go back to, and she's sure Konoe does too. ]

Yeah. It probably gets patched when we're not looking... somehow.

[ Magic, man. Danielle looks around some more. ]

The rural part of the island is pretty close. Wanna look over there too?

[He's used to magic existing, but strangely it's usually been for much more convoluted things than patching roofs, so there's still some novelty to it.]

Might as well. We should know where everything is in this weird place.

[Konoe keeps an eye out for wild growing grasses and other edible plants, or presumed edible, and will bring a bundle of them back to test.]

[curbstomper]

[ What a good cat... the grass is just normal from what I know of. But when they get to the rural area, there are many more houses and farm fields. They're also more... spiffy than the ones in the forest. A lot of these look upgraded and actually look like sturdy houses. Some fields have greenhouses and a sprinkler system... there are some animals. A sheep baas in the distance. ]

... The contrast couldn't be any clearer. Wow.

[Whoops, she's talking to no one because Konoe has fucked off to play with that sprinkler system. The grass. Waters itself. He's also going to drink from it, and hiss and attack it when it sprays him.]

[curbstomper]

[ LMFAO the wheezing noise I made while reading this tag...

Danielle turns around when she doesn't get a response and sees Konoe out in one of the fields where the sprinklers are. She goes over to the area, but stayed some distance from Konoe in case he wants it. ]

Oi... if you're thirsty, you could have just said so.

[kuim]

[He does this little dance of approaching and licking, and then backing off quickly and baring his fangs at the spray... before going back again like he can avoid it this time. But he's never quick enough. When Danielle speaks, Konoe's startled like he forgot she existed, standing still long enough to let the water rain down on him. His ears twitch, flicking the irritating moisture away and he bats at the device viciously with his claws out.]

I don't want any more!

Then why are you there trying to drink water from the sprinklers?! Those are for plants, not you! Get back here already!

[ Unfortunately, Danielle has a short temper... ]

[Konoe's fur bristles at being called out. He glares at the sprinkles one more time before reluctantly walking away, tail twitching like he might be inclined to turn right back around.]

... Sorry.

[It's muttered petulantly, because he's embarrassed. Giving in to instincts like that is frowned upon in his world, and he's never been able to conquer them, acting like a ridiculous kitten if something moves just so and garners his attention.]

I don't want them on our farm.

[For obvious reasons, he's vetoing sprinkler systems.]

[curbstomper]

[ Danielle sighs, running his hand through her hair for a bit out of frustration, but tries to calm down quickly. It's not like Konoe did anything bad to be yelled at. Calm. Calm... ]

Do you wanna go ask the goddess about that? I'll go with you when you want to. If we won't have sprinklers, we'll have to hose everything ourselves.

[kuim]

[He's going to drink from the hose too and possibly also be afraid of it because he hates snakes... but right now, he doesn't know what one is, so he assumes it's a solution.]

Alright. You should come... because you know the words.

[What to ask for in replacement.]

[curbstomper]

[ Konoe... you good? ]

Sure. Let's go. The pond shouldn't be too far from us even though we're in the rural area.

[ Time to head back into the forest! ]

Right.

[And back they go, after he's picked up his bundles of grass he'd left in his hurry to play with the sprinkler. Shameful. He holds the grass close to his chest and walks a little faster back the way they came. It's best to rush by any more potentially distracting stimuli...]

[ Hope Konoe doesn't have too hard of a time when he wanders by himself. Danielle looks at the pamphlet for a moment before continuing to lead Konoe to the goddess pond. It looks like any old pond when they get there, but there's this aura around it. It's the goddess's home. ]

Alright... offering. You got anything except the grass?

[kuim]

[The closer they get to the pond, the more uneasy he comes, as if his fur is being rubbed the wrong way. A soft growl stutters unevenly in his throat, but he continues to follow to the pond with that... aura. It's something, but he can't discern the origins of such feelings.]

Um... No.

[The grass is set down by the edge of the pond though, arranged in pleasing little piles.]

But if she's a harvest goddess, the offering of a... bountiful... crop should be acceptable.

[It's meager at best.]

[curbstomper]

[ Just one crop? Well... Konoe is trying and has the right idea. ]

Let's see if we can barter about offerings. [ lol ] Like an "IOU". If she claims to be who she is, she'll know that I'll pay that back when I can. Let's just pray for her to show up.

[kuim]

I owe you...

[A concept not entirely new.]

Yes, a promise of a portion of our crops, should they prosper.

[He whispers then, like the goddess isn't all-seeing.]

... does the pamphlet say how to pray? I don't want to do it wrong and face her wrath.

[curbstomper]

It's okay. Just follow what I do.

[ And here goes. Danielle holds her hands together in a prayer and says out loud: ]

Harvest Goddess, we request your aid in producing a bountiful harvest this year.

[kuim]

[Konoe's positioning is a little lopsided with one hand and half an arm, but he's doing his best to project sincere praying stances. He repeats Danielle's words, and then adds some of his own.]

We also humbly request that the fields not water themselves, and in exchange a selection of our crops will be offered upon their harvest. Thank you.

[ Their prayers are answered as the goddess rises from the pond, completely dry. She seems pretty dignified in her poise and all, but she raises an eyebrow. ]

Would it not be more convenient if the fields watered themselves?

Well, we might have some problems with the sprinklers that seem to be bestowed with the improvements, if we can assume our fields will be the same as the others we've seen, should we be improving them for the future.

[ Good thing Danielle already knows how to talk to these kinds of people, or she would lose her shit pretty quickly. ]

I-it would be more convenient, yes, but... as she says, the.. sprinklers are a problem.

[He's just fumbling his way through this, trying not to be too rude or demanding, despite holding underlying contempt for the goddess.]

We could have mechanisms that don't sprinkle.

[ The harvest goddess looks over at Konoe, regarding him carefully. ]

And what about the sprinklers are a problem, dear?

[ She holds up a hand so that Danielle doesn't speak for him. ]
