mid-month event

With Crescentview’s newest citizens settling nicely, the Goddess has summoned everyone back to Town Square for another round of announcements. This time, her summons comes to you in the form of a hand-written note. If you happen to be out working in your field, one of her fairies will hand it directly to you, looking a little more sprightly than they did the first time you saw them. Otherwise, expect to find her request/demand to meet up in Town Square in your mailbox.

introducing: the memo board

The Memo Board is now available in Town Square. You may post messages here to your fellow neighbors, send out requests for assistance on the farm, or even solicit local singles for hot dates! Post whatever you like whenever you like. You can even post messages to the board anonymously if you so desire. The Memo Board is available here.

But wait, there’s more! The Goddess has given everyone a fun relationship-building exercise. How well do you know your neighbors? Can you identify them based on their writing alone?

By December 22nd - 12:00pm EST, please have your character submit an anonymous message to be posted to the Memo Board. Their message can be about anything they’d like and there is no length requirement or restrictions. After submissions have been received, characters will be given an opportunity to review everyone’s messages and guess which character wrote which memo. Answers will be revealed on December 29th - 12:00pm EST. A single correct guess will earn you a horse while each additional correct guess will net you a vegetable, flower, or mushroom spore seed bag of your choice. Good luck and have fun!

it's time to dance!

Every Spring 15th, the annual Flower Dance is held in Town Square. Villagers gather to dance with one another and celebrate the upcoming harvest and offer their prayers to the Goddess. Folks are encouraged to dance not just with those they fancy, but their fellow neighbors as a way to express gratitude and appreciation for the friendship and company they provide.

ICly, the dance takes place on Spring 15th and goes from 9am to 9pm.

In addition to the tasks currently available on the Task Board, a handful of new additions have been added. You may continue to work on tasks from the previous event in addition to these new tasks, but please note that tasks may only be completed within the month they are assigned. Summer starts next month, so please have all of your tasks completed and submitted by then!

The new additions are as follows:

1. Post a notice on the Memo Board. Stick up an anonymous memo and earn a single chicken or rabbit to add to your coop. You may post as many notices as you like, but you will only redeem the reward once.

2. Correctly guess who posted a memo. Discuss these anonymous notes with one another and guess who may be the author. Between December 22nd and December 29th, submit your IC votes (link coming on the 22nd) and if you guess correctly, even just once, you will get a horse! You may guess as many times as you like, but you may only redeem this reward once.

3. Partake in the Flower Dance. Pick a partner for a round of dancing, pray to the Goddess, or just celebrate the good times! For every person that you celebrate the event with, you will receive a random bag of seeds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, or mushroom spores. This task can be completed 5 times.

4. Send a letter to your neighbor. This requires you to have acquired the stationary set from the first event, so if you haven't claimed it yet, get to it! You can post letters directly on the main community or set up an inbox in your journal to send and receive hand-written letters. For each letter that you send, you will get a random gacha item. This task can be completed 3 times.

5. Harvest your crops. On the 14th, you'd be surprised to find that all of your crops are now ready for picking - even if you've only planted them the day before. The crops look bright, flavourful, and ready to be picked, so eat them, trade them, sell them, whatever! For every interaction that you have involving the bountiful harvest, you will receive a new set of clothes. This task can be completed 3 times.

[Syrlya nods as they dance, keeping in pace despite the conversation as long as Adelis does. It's much easier as the following roll, he's finding.]

Those are generic terms. Not common ones, but it wouldn't really define much except a profession which is predominately magic--such as a Mesmer.

[He tilts his head, the opposite direction Adelis does. There is one important correction to make though--either it will confuse or clarify Adelis' understanding.] Though it is not divine magic. It is an element of the land of Tyria itself, as inherent as the air and earth.

[He lifts his hand to trace a wave through the air, for emphasis.] Its ley lines both hold Tyria together and mold it, and it is upon that which all of its life flourishes. And thusly allows people like mine to exist. I suppose if your world has little natural magic and relies on gods... I can see why it must be inaccessible.

[ at the very least, he's easy at multitasking- when one is constantly on their feet, sometimes you simply have to move and talk. it's not the first time he's had a chat whilst on the dancefloor, but this is a far more comfortable conversation than the last one he had. ]

Hmmm.

[ he absorbs the information quietly, listening rather raptly. magic is not his strong point, nor does he care to study or practice it, but it is interesting to see how it flourishes in places that aren't etharis. ]

Magic has numerous sources, although I wouldn't ask about details. [ he knows the basics, for necessities sake...and the syndicate has more knowledge than most. ] Ties to nature, stemming from curses or pacts...Divine was apparently simply one of the foremost ones, and now that it's nearly nonexistant, people are far more likely to persecute those few who use magic. After all, the gods have abandoned us...or perhaps they simply never existed at all. Nobody truly knows for sure.

[ a simple shrug, as it's the norm for him. ]

Then again, it sounds as if your home is quite rich in variety and life. Where I come from, there's little else besides human and undead- seeing all these otherworldly features has been as jarring as the sun itself.

[Syrlya nods along. If the world itself is low in magic, it makes sense why divine became more common. Though, just how many times have human gods abandoned their people...?]

Varied, yes. Tyria is home to many sorts. I wonder if the different levels of natural magic have to do with that difference?

[His gaze rolls up as he thinks on it.] So, they are sentient undead?

I'm afraid there are others more suited to tackling that question.

[ like legba's weird mentor, who really needs to get better taste.

the last question makes him vaguely grimace, before he opts to reply. ]

It varies. Some are rather senseless, shambling about and driven by instinct, others can follow simple orders from whoever controls them. And the rest... [ a moment of pause as he thinks. ] Does your Tyria have Kindred?

Not by name at least. [He quirks a brow.] What are the Kindred?

They've many.

[ he doesn't sound too happy about this. ]

Vampires. Nightwalkers. For those of us unafraid, leeches and parasites. They may look human enough, but they sup on the blood of the living to survive, and enjoy making them their playthings besides.

[Vampire. That's a term he knows, but he would expect it only in relation to beasts and Necromancy. Not a proper person.] Are they sentient? Or just strangely resemble people?

[Perhaps as some sort of lure or trick?]

Extremely sentient, unfortunately, as well as unaging and with a penchant for mind tricks and slaving.

[ Amazing how he manages to not stumble in the slightest with his obvious distaste, but the steps are good to ground himself. ]

Ostoya is unlucky enough to have them as our ruling body- the Crimson Court. They govern, yes, all whilst glutting themselves on the populace and throwing extravagant parties within their ivory walls.

[Syrlya hums low.] Sorry to hear that. I can see why it is so jarring to come from Ostoya to... wherever this is.

[Mysterious Farm Island. Though knowing the rest of its world probably wouldn't be any more informative.]

[ The snort he gives off sounds almost amused. ]

Jarring is putting it lightly. However, if there's one thing I'll admit, it's that I don't plan to return anytime soon, if at all.

[ Other people may wish to go home as soon as possible, but he is definitely not one of them. ]

I've spent years readying myself to leave at the nearest opportunity, so if it drops into my lap, I'll take it for what it's worth.

[Syrlya had been wondering, what attachment--if any--he may have still had for his home.]

Then I hope you find the celebration enjoyable. Strange as this place is... it would be nice if it proved itself to be an improvement for you.

[ For all his distaste for everyone else's perceived circumstances, he's certainly never hesitated to share his personal gripes with where he was raised. ]

I wager it will take me longer than some to get used to such quiet. [ He's not going to deny that one. ] But considering nothing has made an attempt on my life yet, I'd say it's already a fair improvement.

Yes, that would be quite an improvement! [Syrlya laughs faintly with humor. That's such a low bar, but he gets it.

Peripherally, he's aware the song is starting to end.]

[ He scoffs at the laugh, but it's clearly not hostile. Anything would be an improvement, truly, but he'll take this over his other options.

The song winds down, and he lets their feet slow in turn. ]

I will admit, that was the most engaging dance I've had in a while....in a far less lethal sense, of course.
