i. what do you mean 'consequences'

[ On one specific, highly cursed day this month, M-21 can be found lurking forlornly outside the island's little clinic. An internal war seems to be going on; he takes a grudging step towards the doors, then stalks away again. As if unaware he's doing it, he reaches down to rub irritably at his lower back. Maybe someone's a little less suited for farm work than everyone else? ]

This is so stupid.

[ He shoots a mutinous look up at the sky like he'd like to direct a complaint right to the management but doesn't quite dare. Then he's back to his pacing, with an occasional sideways glance thrown in towards the vet. Or he can be found draped somewhat pathetically over the nearest fence-shaped thing he can find, apparently no longer willing to move.

Help. ]

ii. like herding cats

[ On days when the weather is sunny and cooperative, despite all complaints, M-21 is hard at work in his fields. Reluctant concessions to farmcore have been made to spare what's left of his suit, and a sturdy pair of farming gloves covering his hands well past the wrist spare what's left of his palms from the sub-par farming tools. Things are coming in pretty nicely, especially the new stand of trees. They're full-grown and leafy and already showing a crop of... one fluffy orange kitten with oversized paws perched on a branch, chirruping furiously. ]

You got yourself up there.

[ Rescue? Or wait another few seconds to catch M-21 sighing and stripping off his gloves as he goes to climb a tree for what appears to be the five hundredth time that day. ]

[ It's kind of everywhere, Gaku can't go wrong. M-21 is busy melting into the sofa now. ]

Jeanne. She's got better taste than He Xuan.

[ No, he's never letting that go. ]

[ He presses down so that an even heat can spread over M-21's back. ]

Probably. I didn't talk to her for long, but she seemed nice.

[ That doesn't indicate taste, but whatever. ]

Mmhm.

[ Logic doesn't need to be a factor here. M-21 heaves a big sigh. Gaku's good at that. ]

I owe you. What do you need a hand with?

[associative]

[ He takes his card out from his pocket and hands it over to M-21. ]

Here. I'll let you pick.

[ He's running out of squares... ]

[feralheart]

[ ...Gaku, there's nothing left on this. M-21 gives it an almost incredulous look. And unfortunately as the only other person who looked embarrassed about the smut squares, Gaku is the only person M-21 is willing to joke with on the subject. ]

...Are you asking if I bite?

[associative]

[ M-21?! Hello?! He wasn't expecting a joke like that to come out of his mouth, and it takes Gaku by surprise, his cheeks immediately turning a light shade of pink. ]

...I'm afraid we don't know each other well enough for that.

[feralheart]

[ M-21 burrows his face in his arms to muffle a tiny chortle. Cute, honestly. He agrees though. ]

I can't paint, but if it doesn't have to be good. Or I could just help you with your farm things.

[associative]

I'm fine with painting, because I'm terrible at it too.

[ He laughs. ]

So let's be bad together? And you can help me out on the farm after.

[ He's kidding about that last part... or is he? ]

Alright. It's a deal. I'm not bad at the farm things.

[ He's not kidding at all. He's a little proud, actually. ]

[associative]

I could really use some help getting all the fruit out of the trees. The coconuts are the worst.

[ But he'll be making sure the heating pad is stable on M-21's back before he goes to retrieve some stuff for painting. He had another painting session not too long ago. ]

[feralheart]

I can do that. Better than cats.

[ After the plastic babies, M-21 assumes Gaku just has anything and everything in his house. He puts a hand to his back to settle the heating pad in place and sits up slowly. Heat... good. ]

[associative]

[ He laughs. ]

You really think I'm putting Haru to work here?

[ His sweet kitty...

He hands one of the sketchpads over to M-21. ]

Let me know when you want that thing reheated, by the way.

[feralheart]

Haru?

[ Wait, he can probably follow from context, once he rewires his thoughts. He takes the sketchpad and kind of stares at it grimly for a second. He should've been drunk rather than just pain-addled, but here goes nothing. ]

Thanks. I feel like I can move again, mostly. [ Tentatively. ]

[associative]

My cat. She's really cute.

[ But right now, she's snoozing on Gaku's bed. ]

Don't stress yourself too much.

[ He starts to set up their little watercolor palettes. ]

Why "Haru"?

[ This question is important, don't doubt him. He gives Gaku a little nod, staring intently for a couple moments. It's probably enough if he gets the major features...? ]

[associative]

It's spring and I found her when I got here, so I decided to name her after the season.

[ It's corny as all hell, but this is simply the way Gaku is.

With the watercolors ready, he starts painting a vague (and terrible) outline of M-21. ]

[feralheart]

...Huh. That's not a bad reason.

[ Sounds perfectly legit to him. M-21 holds the sketchpad close so Gaku can't see and starts on an equally terrible outline. So much for the guy who was making fun of the goddess' art. ]

[associative]

Cute, right?

[ He laughs, crossing his legs as he gets the sketchpad at a better angle for painting.

A bit of silence passes as he mixes some white and black paint in an attempt to get M-21's hair color. ]

You know... They love to have us draw or paint on variety shows, so I've done it a lot. I've always been terrible, though.

[feralheart]

Isn't that supposed to be part of the appeal? Seeing a guy who looks cool doing it badly.

[ Which of the kids explained gap moe to him? Possibly all. He eyeballs Gaku's hair and mixes a little brown in there... this is getting worse by the minute. At least Gaku's not going to hang this up like He Xuan did. ]

[associative]

[ He will politely shove it into a drawer, never to see the light of day again. ]

Yeah, it is. I think Tenn is the best out of all of us when it comes to drawing, but he's good at everything.

[ Disgusting. He's grateful to have a member like that, but also. Gross. ]

Ah... yeah. School principal is like that.

[ One of those. Also M-21 has never watercolored in his life, so hopefully Gaku doesn't mind that this is bleeding into a... slightly blobby amalgamation of colors. ]

Tell me about the guys in your group.

[associative]

[ It'll be nice an abstract! ]

Tenn is the perfect idol. Great singer, great dancer, always kind to fans. We didn't get along in the beginning, but I'm really glad to have him as the center for TRIGGER.

[ Hmmm... the details of M-21's face have kind of blended together. Oops. ]

Ryuu is the one who always has a level head, and he's a great guy overall. He's an amazing dancer too. I would trust him to do just about anything.

You've got a good team. Sounds like you can depend on them.

[ MODERN ART... M-21 is not sulking at how badly this is going. He's just now realizing that if he splashes more colors on there it might look less bad. That's what's happening.

Maybe Gaku should consider investing in a pink shirt. ]

[associative]

Yeah, I can. I wouldn't have been willing to go indie if I didn't.

[ He watches M-21's expression shift, wondering just how bad that painting is. Maybe Gaku will for once have the better of the two paintings... what an accomplishment. ]

[feralheart]

Do you wish they were here?

[ He wonders a little how Gaku's teammates would describe him. With how seriously it seems like he takes things, another reliable guy, he guesses.

...It makes the painting that is happening probably more of a travesty. M-21 makes an exasperated little 'tch' noise at it. ]
