summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

No, there's quite a few of us from Teyvat here, in fact.

[ some disasters from mondstadt, he and cyno from sumeru, and a few other scattered souls. ]

We can both complete one square each, yes, but no more than that in one sitting. If you'd like to do more, we'd have to meet up again tomorrow.

[Aether nods at that information.]

I see...

[Ah, but it's a shame they can't complete a couple of squares at the same time.]

In that case, let's have a picnic. This way we'll both benefit from it... and we can have a nice chat, too. [He grins.] There's still a lot I need to ask about.

[So yes, picnic sounds perfect.]

A picnic it is, then.

[ tighnari smiles, and gestures to aether. ]

Mine and Cyno's farmhouse isn't far from here, I've got plenty of food. Let's go prepare some.

So the two of you live together? [Not that he's surprised. He's just happy that they have each other.]

I hope you two have been doing well.

[He still doesn't know if other than the bingo there's something to worry about in this world.]

And sure. You can leave cooking to me.

[ tighnari turns toward the path, gesturing for aether to follow. ]

Yes, we do. Cyno arrived a little earlier than I did, but we're both doing well. Would rather be home, but there's little enough to be done about that.

[ they're at the whims of a goddess.. tighnari sighs, and leads aether into the forest. ]

You know I can cook too, right?

I understand that well.

[Suddenly appearing in a completely different place and getting told that you can't leave isn't exactly fun. Still, Aether smiles. He's happy that Tighnari and Cyno are doing well.]

I know, you do, but you're providing the ingredients. It's only fair that I'll take care of cooking.

Well in that case, I'll take care of the cleaning.

[ tighnari grins. you can't make him sit on his hands completely, aether, he'll go out of his mind!! also, now that they've reached the nice cool shade of the forest, tighnari sighs, looking much more comfortable. ]

I think we have the fixings for pita pockets, those are always nice and easy for lunch. Cyno might've picked up some candied nuts, as well.

[Aether nods with a smile.]

It sounds like we'll be ready for the picnic in no time.

[He almost expects Paimon to chime in when the food is mentioned, but there's only silence. It's so odd to not have her around, but Aether doesn't comment.]

Do you know any good places we could go to have our picnic?

Oh, plenty.

[ tighnari has been here long enough to have gotten a good lay of the land, after all. they move briskly down the path toward his homestead in the near distance. ]

There are several nice clearings nearby. We could even have it close enough that Cyno could join, if he wanders home. I'm sure he'll be glad to see you.

[He smiles brightly at that.]

I would be happy to see him as well.

[Just relaxing moment where the three of them could share a meal and enjoy the weather.]

It's decided then.

[ now all that's left it so gather the picnic supplies!

so tighnari leads him onward toward the cozy home he keeps with cyno. it actually looks quite nice by now, small, yes, but quite comfortable and neat, cleaned up and fixed. no more holes in the roof! into the kitchen they go, and tighnari soon unloads the ingredients that aether will need to prepare the pita pockets. ]

All right, you can get started whenever you like, I'll put on some tea.

[Upon entering, Aether looks around a little, before smiling to Tighnari.]

You two made yourself quite a nice home here.

[It feels very welcoming. But that aside! Aether quickly gets to work and the pita pockets are done in no time. He carefully packs them for the picking, before shining a smile to his companion.]

Food prepared. Do you need help with anything else?

[ while aether works, tighnari puts on some herbal tea, steeping it just right, and pouring it into a sturdy teapot. he then fetches a picnic basket, and together they load it up with the pita pockets, as well as some cups, small dishes, fruits, crackers and cheese. tighnari refills their waterskins as well, while they're at it.

soon enough, they're ready! he takes the teapot in his hands; he'll just carry it, since they're not going far. ]

No, I think we're good to go. Mind getting the basket?

[Look at all of this. The basket makes him smile softly, as he's enjoying the preparation. Once it's all done, he gives Tighnari a nod and grabs the basket.]

No problem. Now lead the way.

[He's all ready to go.]

[ they have so many goodies!

tighnari nods, smiles, and they set off! the walk isn't far at all, just a bit down the path from his and cyno's farmhouse, then off to the right, into the empty orchard. it's here that tighnari sets down the basket, and lays down the blanket. ]

Here should do just fine.

[Aether follows, taking in the view around them. He's still so very new in here, after all! Once they reach their destination, he helps Tighnari set everything up, before taking a seat on the blanket and admiring the view. Then he closes his eyes, just listening to the summer wind and allowing himself to soak in the warm sunlight.]

It's really nice in here.

[ together they prepare their spread across the blanket, setting out the cheese and fruit and delicious pita pockets, and tighnari pours them both a cup of fresh tea, handing one off to aether with a smile. ]

It is, isn't it? I'd rather be home, of course, but.. at least this place isn't too bad.

I think we would all rather be home...

[Maybe there are people who are happy here, but he can guess majority wasn't pleased to be snatched away from their worlds.

Aether is used to it, but being him puts him even further away from finding his sister.]

[ no, indeed most people are likely not too happy to have been dragged from their home and work.. tighnari misses his forest a great deal, and the work he had found so fulfilling.

he sips his tea. ]

Well, you're right about that. Unfortunately there's little enough to be done about it, at the moment.

That's true...

[Aether sighs before joining his companion in sipping the tea.]

Tighnari, do you know anything about this goddess that dragged us here?

I wish I could say that I do..

[ tighnari frowns, his brow knitting thoughtfully. ]

I know she must be quite powerful, in order to rip us across worlds. I know that she seems to be very hands-on with us, she enjoys interacting with the people.

But you haven't spoken to her?

[He thinks about it for a moment.]

Perhaps I should try.

I did, briefly, but.. it wasn't over anything particularly meaningful.

[ it was just.. hot or not..... ]

Honestly, I'd give her a piece of my mind, but it wouldn't achieve anything beyond venting my own spleen, and I'd rather not create a headache for myself. But by all means, if anyone could have any luck in getting through to her, it's you.

[He nods, deep in thought.]

I see... I definitely will try.

[ with a soft smile, tighnari nudges aether's shoulder. ]

But for now, why don't we just enjoy the picnic, hmm? Don't worry too much.
