summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

[ The harvest goddess will be on her outdoor walks more often with a parasol. She can mostly be seen by the beach, looking far off into the ocean. She can also be reached at the goddess pond in the forest any time at any day.

As usual, offering something she may not like into the pond may result in consequences. ]

[If you're curious about the strange, gurgling lake at the base of the mountains, why not check it out? When you make your way over to the calm, pristine lake, you'll hear nothing out of the ordinary... What will you do?]

[ On some day with nice weather, you might have caught a glimpse of someone in a maid outfit. Ellis has been doing farmwork in it, working at his office with it, and even shopping with it. When he meets eyes with you, he will immediately walk up to you with a notepad and a grin: ]

[ If you happen to be outdoors, Ellis will add an addendum of wanting to race. Let him test his maid shoes against yours. If you happen to be indoors, Ellis will add an addendum to ask if they heard anything interesting lately among the farmer and the residents. For either option, Ellis could also pull up the human scavenger hunt question and points to the questions. This you? ]

ii - the beach episode prompt

[ Sometimes you shrink from 5' 11" to 4' 0" and suddenly have panda ears. Ellis is kind of adorable, knows it, and is using that cuteness to his full advantage. He might grab your hand and try to tug you towards the ocean.

No, Ellis is not wearing swimwear. He just has a t-shirt and thin farm work pants.

Alternatively, you might catch him staring at you because staring at pretty people is what he does. ]

[ How did this happen? No, wait. He Xuan isn't about to question that.

The goddess is to blame, clearly. Whatever the case, he's being tugged towards the ocean for whatever reason (maybe the appearance is working well, or honestly he is just used to being dragged into things.) His steps are seemingly half-hearted, regardless. ]

...What do you think you're doing?

[ Not that He Xuan is dressed for swimming times either. But he doesn't do swimsuits. He is just simply decked out in his usual complete black wear. ]

[ Ellis seems to excitedly point at the beach and still holding He Xuan's hand despite the coldness. He knows He Xuan has water powers and wants to see if he can split the sea like Moses in whatever story he heard that from, because He Xuan is clearly not going to go for a swim in those clothes. ]

[ Ellis would be right to assume He Xuan has no intention of going swimming in his current clothing, or at all, though he has an incredulous look once he's pointed at the beach.

...

There is a small pause before he begins to do something to the water, and then purposefully make a little sprinkle of it come out of the ocean to make light contact with Ellis' nose. ]

[ The first time he sees Ellis in a few days is at the store, and Gaku has to do a double take. Ellis in a maid dress is not what he had on his list of predictions for the new season.

But… that question is easy enough to answer. ]

[ Summer is here!

Trahearne, being as he is, has never actually gotten the chance to enjoy all the delights the season has to offer. His experiences on the beach in these sunny months have been decidedly not relaxing or enjoyable at all. Needless to say, this is all very new for him.

But at least he knows the protocol. He knows better than to wear "clothes," so he'll go with the flow and strip down to his ~~skin-tone thong~~ modesty leaves. And now with no coverage, a large, nasty scar that still heals arcing across his chest is visible for all to see.

Catch him wading through the waves, lounging in the sun with a book, or awkwardly people watching from a distance.

Alternatively, he may show up one day with a large basket on his arm. What better way to get rid of their excess harvest by going to where all the people are? ]

[ Summer is here, and boy, it's hot! She hates it, thanks! And yet, she can be found sitting underneath a tree, in the shade. She has a modest piece of swimwear on, accompanied by a light hoodie, and she's gathering some sand into her hands in an attempt to make a sandcastle.

It looks a little underwhelming, in that it's just lumps of sand being stacked on top of each other. Eventually, one of the little piles ends up falling down, and Lucia grimaces. Her hard work... ]

Ah.

[ Help...may be in order. ]

[ She is not going up there. Nope. She's content to just watch things unfold in the audience, waaay back and away from the stage so she doesn't get called upon. What a silly but anxiety inducing game... She can't even bring herself to vote.

[ Ellis doesn't even have to walk closer to hear Noé's dirty thoughts, to be honest. He's pretending to be interested in the bottle of water he grabbed from a shelf, which isn't very convincing, but that's not the point. Moreover, he's still trying to figure out if that's Ellis or not. ]

What a cute outfit... but that can't be Ellis, right? If that's Ellis... he's not wearing that outfit because of the get along shirt accident?

[ Noé might not be very well-versed in the art of making sandcastles, but he's definitely enthusiastic. Their lumps of sand at least look more decorative than before when he notices that Lucia is a little out of it. ]

[ Is it just him or is Lucia getting really sleepy? They've been working on the sandcastle for a while, so maybe she's just tired. ]

[ The irony here is that while Ellis has panda ears sitting on top of his head, he still can't hear anything out of them despite the adult animals being known for being sensitive to sounds. When a sprinkle comes out of the ocean, Ellis jolts in surprise, shaking his head. Ugh!! He bends down to wet his hand with the ocean and tries to flick some at He Xuan's face. ]

[ Of course Gaku would agree. Ellis smiles, but he's definitely not impressed. Should he have expected something different? But since they're at the store, Ellis has a basket full of snacks.

[ The thing about Ellis's mind reading is that he doesn't really hear it, but he just gets a sense of what someone is saying in their heads. So when he feels that, he looks around and... oh. Noe. He goes up to him and waves.

SCAVENGER HUNT:

[ uta who has probably never properly played a game of scavenger hunt in her entire life is more than excited and eager to see what it's all about. it seems easy enough and she figures that it could be beneficial for all parties involved! they could all learn more about one another and then that would also mean they could help get more bingo squares completed which then means that the harvest goddess (aria) will feel better.

there isn't a single down side to this for her. it probably helps with the fact that uta, by in large, is an outgoing person who isn't afraid to talk to anyone. something something idol life. so, sorry except definitely not sorry as she steps in close to your personal space with a piece of paper and a pen in hand. ]

[ all smiles and a warm, friendly expression regardless of however the other person reacts in kind to her. normally she'd ask if there was a moment to spare but it's just a simple yes or no question, right? who doesn't have time for that? ]

[ given the options that were offered to them to earn more seeds and supplies for the farm, this immediately shot up to the top of her list as she read nothing else beyond it. flower crowns!! she has always enjoyed the thought of them!! on the assumption that the flowers that she managed to plant on her farm have bloomed nicely, she'll have used a few primrose blossoms in the construction. not too many as they act more as an accent then part of the main structure.

...which is to then address the integrity of the flower crown itself and it's. well. it's simple, which is good, but it's also simple in that there's not much going on for it. as in it's clearly made by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. there might be a few things that aren't exactly flower related woven in. nothing prickly, of course!! ]

[ who does uta find hot? who does uta find not hot? would uta even voice her opinions?? hmm. she probably looks perplexed about the whole ordeal for an entirely different reason than the next person. she's really talking to herself than to anyone in particular. ]

[ the sun is bright, the skies are clear, the heat of the summer make the sight of the gentle roll of the waves and the promise of cool waters an all too tempting invitation. there might be even birds in the sky to make use of the ambiance in full. however, as it stands, uta will be sitting on the beach away from any of the little bungalows looking into the ocean. she'll have traded out her headphones and normal hair style for a strawhat and regular twin tails instead as she watches the waves in the distance.

there will be a small bucket and a spade next to her but the spade looks unused and the bucket only a little damp. yet, despite this, there will be no signs of a sandcastle in the making or anything of that sort? something to note is how far uta is from where the waves are crashing into the beach. she is certainly a healthy distance away from the water.

and for those who are close enough and approach her initially without saying anything, she'll softly be singing a tune. the words will be hard to hear—not that it'll matter because for those who are close enough to hear here might find themselves feeling kind of drowsy. now, whether they outright pass out or not is a matter of how long they linger listening to her song and not interrupt her. those who listen to her long enough without interrupting her run into the danger of falling asleep (at least it'll be a peaceful sleep). ]
