[ where are you right now? are you simply wandering around the island in no particular place? well, for those near the beach you can find a small calico cat who seems rather skittish and may be running away from a dog. fortunately, the dog doesn't seem to be chasing after the cat with any bloodlust but more like following her around? what is happening here?

or maybe you are having a meal when this small calico walks up to you and meows exactly once before sitting politely at your feet. or maybe you're just somewhere on the island in general when you stumble upon her. ]

[ because i refuse to believe that there is not a single bench on this entire island, uta will be outside sitting on one of them while flipping through a book with a title that seems... questionable or exciting depending on your taste in reading material. for uta, however, she'll questioning the novel she received with the proud title of My Boyfriend Is The One Except He’s A Lizard And Father Doesn’t Approve on its cover and spine. can't forget what you're reading, after all.

why is she reading this book outside where god and everyone can see her questionable taste? simple. if she must suffer, she will not go down alone—would be the answer if she was petty. the truth is that she's hoping to pawn it off to someone (anyone) else who finds the faintest interest in it. ]

[ since it has been a bit since they've all arrived, uta will be checking out the boutique's offerings to see if she can't find something to change up her wardrobe. farmcore has never been her thing, but wearing an all-white dress with a short skirt is definitely not practical. that said, she will be posing in front of a mirror in some new clothes which still aren't great for farming before going to change into something else that is a lot more reasonable.

perhaps it's interesting that regardless whatever she is trying on, she'll have a particular straw hat on her head in exchange for the headphones. ]

[ uta will hum a little tune while watching the cat munch away on the cracker. one of their ears twitch for a moment and moves itself to angle itself closer to uta. obviously she knows that ellis can't hear her but it is what it is, but at least the cat seems to be enjoying her humming. ]

Should we leave more crackers for it, should they want more?

[ For all Ellis knows, the cat just likes being near Uta more. That's more or less what he expected, so he's not bothered by it at all. Ellis nods to Uta's question and holds out the bag of crackers to her.

which is exactly what she'll do. though noticing how it's a bit hard for the cat to eat the whole cracker, she'll break it into small pieces in a somewhat neat pile near to where the cat was munching away. a gesture that the cat will notice but won't do much more than quickly snag another piece from the pile despite not having finished the one they were still working on.

meanwhile, satisfied with the result, uta will stand up (carefully) and place a hand on her hip. ]

Shall we look for another animal?

[ Ellis nods and gets up with Uta.

He points to the forest area and wonders if they can come across some squirrels and if they'll run away. ]

[ she won't know what he's wondering but when he points to the forest, she'll nod her head in agreement. ]

Good choice! I'm sure we'll run into plenty in the forest.

[ squirrels, birds, raccoons, owls... what other forest animals are there that they could run into? deer?? there aren't bears probably. ]

[ Hopefully no bears. Ellis seems pretty excited and leads Uta into the forest. They already see some birds perching on trees and such, but Ellis points at a squirrel. It's pretty far... ]

[ imagine if milky and/or ichi suddenly said that there were bears on the island just to cause chaos in this thread? that wouldn't happen though, i'm sure...

nevertheless, for the moment, uta will get distracted by the birds for a moment as well as the rest of everything that she sees. it's less like she hasn't seen birds before but more like she's fascinated in the differences and their songs.

she'll eventually notice ellis' pointing and look over towards what he's pointing at....only to also get derailed by seeing a rabbit. ]

Ellis stares at the rabbit and lowers himself to try and get it to come closer. It does not budge. Do the animals not like him?? He's starting to wonder. ]

the fact that the rabbit doesn't move is a bit... depressing, honestly. ]

They don't seem to like you, don't they... [ uta will kneel next to ellis and also hold her hand out to the ground. ] I wouldn't get too discouraged; I've read that rabbits are supposed to be more cautious.

[ and the rabbit will, in fact, remain where it is and simply just sniff in their direction. it isn't running away, so that must be a good thing. ]

Uta raises a good point. Ellis doesn't know much about the animals, but that sounds about right, so he tries to be patient...

Meanwhile, behind the two, there's some rustling. Ellis can't hear it, but Uta most certainly can. The bear wants their food. The rabbit scampers away. ]

[ never ask a question you don't want the answers to..... closes my eyes. i'm glad that these two will now encounter a bear because it is correct that while ellis is blissfully unaware of the impending danger, uta isn't. ...not that she has seen a bear in person.

but the low rumble and loud cracks from the sticks on the ground, get uta's attention and she turns around to look behind them after the rabbit hops away. ]

Um.

[ SHE DOESN'T KNOW HIS NAME; she'll in equal parts urgently and gently tap him on the arm. ]

I think we should find a different place to be.

[ Huh? He looks at Uta say that, but why? Does she suddenly not like being in the forest--Then he turns around fully to see the bear and his face turns pale. BROOOOO. WHAT THE FUCK!! A BEAR!!! Ellis is internally screaming right now, frozen in place and the bear just chilling like "hey guys whats up".

Anyway, Ellis's unfortunate aggressive survival instincts kick in, which means holding up Uta like a log (sorry) and getting the heck out of there. ]

well if she thought that ellis' next move was for him to pick her up in such a manner and start to book it, then she would have given herself a pat on the back. as it stands, she does her best not to scream when the bear comes for them and when she gets picked up.

she also keeps her eyes forward and tries not to look back at the bear which. well. goes as well as one could expect because the bear definitely got a whiff of some of that food they had with them, and was not extremely interested. dangerously interested??

Probably not, especially with how Ellis is absolutely not built to carry people and was being led astray by pure adrenaline. After a short while when the bear is out of sight, he nearly tumbles, but manages to set Uta upright (barely) before he collapses. Sorry, Uta... it's not you. He's just weak. ]

being chased by a bear does not spark joy and uta would have more opinions about the matter but it all goes out the metaphorical window as she is placed on the ground just moments before ellis eats it. she's happy but also?? ]

she'll drop to the ground next to ellis and give him a look over to make sure that he was fine. honestly, for however long he was able to run with her in his arms is a feat in itself and she won't judge him. ]

[ It takes Ellis a moment for his sight to focus and once it does, he looks up at Uta and smiles a little. He's fine! Better him than her. He also did not carry Uta properly. Who'd want to be carried like a log?? ]

[ once he lets her know that he's okay, she'll sit back on the ground with a heavy sigh. that surely didn't go the way that they thought it would now did they? ]

I'm surprised that we saw a bear out here.

[ Unfortunately(?) for Uta, when Ellis finally catches his breath, he pulls out the pamphlet, flips through several pages, and points at his own name in the profile. The goddess can't draw white hair properly, it seems. It says, "Ellis". ]

[ that's okay. uta has forgiven the goddess for one reason or another about various things, and she'll instead just look at where ellis is pointing then back to him. ]

[ Ellis just smiles a little awkwardly. He's not going to say no to free favors. His head throbs a little so he rubs the side of his head with a hand with a small frown. Perhaps it's time to go home... ]
