[ where are you right now? are you simply wandering around the island in no particular place? well, for those near the beach you can find a small calico cat who seems rather skittish and may be running away from a dog. fortunately, the dog doesn't seem to be chasing after the cat with any bloodlust but more like following her around? what is happening here?

or maybe you are having a meal when this small calico walks up to you and meows exactly once before sitting politely at your feet. or maybe you're just somewhere on the island in general when you stumble upon her. ]

[ because i refuse to believe that there is not a single bench on this entire island, uta will be outside sitting on one of them while flipping through a book with a title that seems... questionable or exciting depending on your taste in reading material. for uta, however, she'll questioning the novel she received with the proud title of My Boyfriend Is The One Except He’s A Lizard And Father Doesn’t Approve on its cover and spine. can't forget what you're reading, after all.

why is she reading this book outside where god and everyone can see her questionable taste? simple. if she must suffer, she will not go down alone—would be the answer if she was petty. the truth is that she's hoping to pawn it off to someone (anyone) else who finds the faintest interest in it. ]

[ since it has been a bit since they've all arrived, uta will be checking out the boutique's offerings to see if she can't find something to change up her wardrobe. farmcore has never been her thing, but wearing an all-white dress with a short skirt is definitely not practical. that said, she will be posing in front of a mirror in some new clothes which still aren't great for farming before going to change into something else that is a lot more reasonable.

perhaps it's interesting that regardless whatever she is trying on, she'll have a particular straw hat on her head in exchange for the headphones. ]

[ uta will look up from her book and greet him with a smile. if she looks a little bit relieved to see him then it's probably true due to the locals' opinions reading such material out in public like this. she has been reading some cursed item that was decided by milky, apparently. or, well, what's probably more likely— ]

I think it's supposed to be a romance novel.

[ she'll look back to the book momentarily. ]

I don't think this is the kind of reading material that interests me. I'm not sure if I could relate to the protagonist.

... it's certainly not the best piece of fiction I've read, I have to agree.

I've ready plenty of books myself and... I, I'm sure the author was still developing their writing style.

[ she has no idea why she's trying to give this anonyms person the benefit of the doubt, but here we are. though as he keeps flipping through and eventually comments on something he lands on, she'll tilt her head to a side. ]

Is a kiss on the hand really realistic?

[ Holding the book with one hand, he reaches out with the other to take Uta's right hand. He then gets down on one knee before he places a gentle kiss on the top of her held hand. ]

[ well, uta was about to say something and would have said something but instead she just watches kaeya get down to one knee, take her hand, and... it's tragic that her immediate reaction is to be in a daze. at least she has her answer as to why people write about it.

she also now understands what it's like to have a sort of "out of body" experience where things seem kind of surreal. you'd think that uta would have the heart for something like this but she sure doesn't. ]

and while maybe someone else might be actively freaking out in a dramatic fashion, uta will do her best to save face (while periodically and subtly trying to get her hand back) and act like it isn't too strange.

[ Kaeya was hoping to take back his hand so he can then see Uta's reaction, but uhhh, his hand is stuck?? He tries to pull back, which only causes him to pull Uta's hand with him. Hmm. ]

Well... I certainly did not, but could this be a clever trick so you'd just have an excuse to hold my hand?

[ He's teasing, he knows that she wouldn't, or would she... ]

[ at least she realizes that he's teasing her about this, but it doesn't make the situation any less embarrassing. if someone told her that she'd wake up and suddenly have her hand kissed and then be stuck to the person who had done it, she'd follow up with many questions.

honestly questions that she would have then, she has now. still, she keeps up a good face. ]

I see, and there's no way that I could have predicted something like this happening.

Then it must be one of the Goddess' tricks. She seems to enjoy playing those.

Well, asides from this strange occurrence, did you find the kiss realistic?

[ uta will take a moment to frown and think that over. hmmm.... but when she goes to answer kaeya, she'll be a bit on the bashful side. ]

If I were to be honest, I wouldn't have much to compare to. [ you know. the whole "growing up alone and isolated from the world" thing. ] So, my answer would be that it was. It certainly matched the feeling I get from the other books that I've read.

[ sitting down next to one another and chilling for however long is a good one, for sure, as uta hums softly. she has, obviously, read about these things and the love that she's aware of is that of familial by nature. ]

A lot of what was written in this book focused on how the boyfriend was every bit of what the narrator saw perfect, but doing things like spending time with someone and doing nice things for them... Isn't that something you'd do for anyone? [ and just because: ] ...unless you have experience being a lizard instead.
