I am excited to have you along for a group excursion to the mysterious new island! In two days' time, let us gather in the town square and set off from there! Please be prepared to stay the night. It will be so fulfilling and memorable for everyone to spend a night on an adventure together!

On the promised day, once everyone (and likely a few surprise tag-alongs) has gathered or been gathered, Ori distributes little paper bags of snacks to everyone. Inside are cookies, oat snacks, and a freshly-picked apple from her and M-21's orchard. Do with them as you please... Just don't let her catch you throwing it into the sea or something. 🥺 ]

Alright. I think we should head out, then! Thanks for coming along, everyone! I hope it'll be a great time. Oh, and please don't forget to drink plenty of water and use this incredible ointment I discovered on this island! It's called "sunscreen!" Tieflings don't really get sunburnt, but you should use it!

[ I'll be defaulting to third person POV for these, just let me know if you'd like a first person starter. You can be in an audience and I can wrap the memories up quickly, or you can interact with the memory as a CYOA, but the actual events themselves will not be altered. Lucia will remember both versions, however: The original and the CYOA-style memories, should you choose this option! ]

i. family feud

[ The scene is set inside of a large house with several groups of people inside. This looks like a family gathering, judging from how children are running around and playing with one another, and how the adults are mingling, talking amongst each other. Off in a corner, however, is a familiar girl with long red hair that goes down to her lower back. She has a teddy bear in her lap as she sits alone, not quite knowing what to do with herself.

People pass by, not acknowledging her whatsoever, until an older woman decides to approach, along with two other adults. The girl shares some features with the couple behind the older woman. These appear to be her parents, and they look distressed. ]

Young lady, you need to promise your parents that you will do everything in your power to compensate for what you lack in inherent worth. You may not understand this now, but you will come to in time.

[ The young girl looks anxious, afraid, confused. Her parents look like they want to interfere...but they don't. ]

ii. the plea

[ Later in life, a teenage version of Lucia can be seen on her knees, tugging on the coattails of a rather dignified person with long, silver hair cascading down their shoulders. She's clinging onto their clothing, tears rolling down her cheeks as she looks up at them in desperation. ]

Please...please, help me... I want to belong. I don't want to be stuck like this for the rest of my life.

[ The person looks down at her with contempt. ]

You are not worthy. You must find your way on your own, and use your own bare hands to protect your family from scrutiny. This is your responsibly, as a cursed child.

iii. lifestyle

[ (This is the only prompt that would be best as a cyoa-style memory!)

For a calmer experience, one can also explore Lucia's bedroom (where she is sitting at a computer with a headset on). She does not seem to notice your presence at the moment, given that the room is dark and the only light is the glow coming from her computer. It's very clean and organized, though, despite the number of objects in her room. Books and games sit on a bookshelf; there are two large rbabit stuffed animals situated on her bed. She has a simple, white desk with a succulent sitting on top of it. There's also a framed picture of Lucia with a girl with blonde hair. They look quite close.

The city is also available for you to look at, downstairs. ]

[Hey, this is...a thing. Steinbeck blinks, a little surprised as his gaze moves over the room, taking everything in. He's tense, of course - he expects an attack, perhaps, since changes like this usually mean abilities, and therefore mean ability users - but nothing happens.]

[He's peering over at the picture, before glancing over at Lucia herself.]

[After a moment, he moves to try to see if he can pluck off her headset.]

[ Nothing happens indeed. It's just a girl in a room playing video games, and Steinbeck :man_standing: until he goes over to pull off her headset.

Her immediate reaction is to answer, without prying her eyes away from her screen: ]

Almost finished, mom. Just five more minutes.

[ She hasn't seen who the perpetrator is, though. ]

Ahaha. Maybe not the first time I've been called "mom" by accident...

[Yeah, he's just leaning in to her side to give a little wave.]

Lucia?

[ She sees an unfamiliar face and recoils in her chair, pushes her foot against the floor so her rolling chair moves aaaaall the way back.

Into the wall behind her. There she goes...ouch. ]

Oof! [ She still looks panicked, though. ] W-who are you?! Why are you in this apartment?!

Oh, whoah, hey there-!

[Too late. He winces.]

I'm, uh. Well, I think something transported me here? Like. [Um.] Magically. That's it. Don't you recognize me?

[ Ellis "listens" to all that and, wow. Family isn't worth shit! Good to know nothing matters.

So Ellis goes right up to the older woman to slap her face with all the strength he can muster. Hey, fuck you. ]

[ It sure isn't worth jack shit!!!

But this guy is, even if Lucia has no idea what's going on. She's scared by the sudden appearance of a tall guy slapping her aunt across the face, but truth be told, she's been wanting to do that for a while, now.

The woman, however, looks appalled. ]

Why you-! Who are you?! Who invited you into our home?! You're lucky it's not Autumn, or I would've-!

[ Lucia curls up into a ball and hugs her stuffed animal close, staring up at Ellis. ]

[framestory]

[ He just slaps the other cheek with his other hand. He can "hear" and "speak" properly in memshares, so he just lets out a sigh, but still with a smile now. ]

I'm lucky because it's not autumn?

[ Ellis regards the woman while literally looking down upon her. ]

Can't you do anything without relying on that? What worthless garbage. You're the worthless one.

[ The woman holds a hand up to her other cheek and looks absolutely enraged at Ellis. Her parents are completely dumbfounded, out of words to say and are stunned into silence.

Lucia, on the other hand, lifts her hand and uses it to tug on Ellis' shirt. She looks like she's going to burst into tears, but there's something about her expression that feels like a plea. ]

...Um...

[framestory]

[ Ellis turns and lowers himself so that he doesn't seem intimidating... he's never intimidating, but he doesn't know what others think, much less a child. ]

Yes?

I...want to go home...

[ And here come the tears. Infinite Flood Works. Good luck, Ellis. ]

[ He doesn't like dealing with crying people, especially children. He doesn't want to "hear" again, thanks. But he's not going to leave her alone with people who Ellis just infuriated/got on bad sides with, so he gets up and holds out his hand. Should she hold it, he'll walk out with her.

Time to kidnap a child right in front of their parents! ]

[ Her parents yell at Ellis, demanding him to return their daughter. Lucia keeps crying while holding Ellis' hand. It seems fine, but...

...her father lunges out towards him in an attempt to attack Ellis and get Lucia back. What will Ellis do? ]

[ The thing about Ellis is that he's not combat-friendly as in he's absolute dogshit at fighting unless in emergency scenarios. This should be an emergency scenario, but his survival instincts don't work here, so once he notices the dad lunging at him, he picks up Lucia and runs away the fastest he can. ]
