Hello, intrepid adventurer!

I am excited to have you along for a group excursion to the mysterious new island! In two days' time, let us gather in the town square and set off from there! Please be prepared to stay the night. It will be so fulfilling and memorable for everyone to spend a night on an adventure together!

If you have any questions or concerns, please come find me at my flower shop in town or at the forest farm where I live!

On the promised day, once everyone (and likely a few surprise tag-alongs) has gathered or been gathered, Ori distributes little paper bags of snacks to everyone. Inside are cookies, oat snacks, and a freshly-picked apple from her and M-21's orchard. Do with them as you please... Just don't let her catch you throwing it into the sea or something. 🥺 ]

Alright. I think we should head out, then! Thanks for coming along, everyone! I hope it'll be a great time. Oh, and please don't forget to drink plenty of water and use this incredible ointment I discovered on this island! It's called "sunscreen!" Tieflings don't really get sunburnt, but you should use it!

[Now that makes his uncertainty pang even more, even as he keeps on a smiling face.]

Yeah? Is it obvious?

People who aren't used to nice things are usually from that sort of place.

[ Ellis smiles back, but the void-like feeling recedes a little to make room for curiosity. Steinbeck always has Ellis curious. ]

I want to know, but it's okay if you don't want to tell me. Did your neck heal well?

[He doesn't say anything to that first part. The question, though, makes his gaze dart away, sheepishly rubbing over his neck where the wound was.]

Yeah. Its much better now. I tend to be a fast healer. Have to be. [And something like a little spark of gratitude shows.] Thanks for asking, though.

[ Ellis nods and smiles a little. ]

You probably won't have to do that while you're here. Relax in the waters!

[ And so, he sinks into the water a bit more with only his head above the surface. He looks very comfortable. ]

[He seems a little surprised, before he lets out a low huff of amusement.]

Haha. You look like you're right at home. Have you ever done anything like this?

I went to the hot springs once.

[ He's still not entirely used to public baths, but even Ellis regards this place relatively safe with the people that were brought along. Staying in Crescentview really laxed his danger standards despite the number of questionable people here. ]

But it's so comfortable that I forget about worrying about the whole thing.

Ha, I guess there's a point to that.

[He moves to sit on the edge of the bath next to the other man.]

You find a place that makes you feel safe, and it, well...does that.

Do you feel that you need to be on edge all the time?

[ Because Ellis thinks he knows quite a few people like that and wonders if it's the same for Steinbeck. ]

[Well.]

Came with the line of work that I was in. Though I did try to find time to relax, honest!

[ So Steinbeck is something like a powerful fighter and that his environment pretty much crafted him to be just that because it was rough. Ellis connects the dots now!! Not really, but he thinks this is the case... ]

What do you do to relax here? I feel like you'd be the kind to watch others have fun.

[He shrugs.]

Mostly just snooze on the farm, or fish. I really like fishing. Nature is pretty relaxing to me, actually. Comes with growing up on a farm, I think.

[ Fishing! Ellis found that calming too, so he nods enthusiastically. Some more of the void-like feelings are gone and replaced with more curiosity. ]

I'm from a city, so I didn't know how good being surrounded by nature was until I came here. I'm glad I got to experience that.

Yeah? I'm glad you did. Cities are kind of lonely to me, when I think about them.

[Nothing but tall buildings of glass and steel...it feels oppressive.]

So maybe stick with nature. It'll do you some good.

[ Ellis thought that the nature part was what made him want to stay in the first place, but then he thinks about it a little.

Hm. ]

Why?

Why what? Why do I think cities are lonely?

[ Ellis nods. ]

Cities usually have so many people.

Well...

[A long pause, as he thinks about it.]

There's lots of people, but those people are usually tied up with their lives. And on top of it, they stay in places of glass and steel, isolated from each other. Its all machinery and bright lights when it comes down to it. You don't have that connection with your fellow man like you do out in the wild, and you lose that connection with the world, too. Nature is warm. Cities aren't so warm, inside and out.

[ Huh.

Ellis tries to apply that to what he knows and he can see where Steinbeck is going with that. He's thinking a little more before nodding. ]

This place has been warm, so I think I understand that.

[ ... As warm as it can get with the current cast, anyway. There's a sort of appreciation that stirs in the bathwater for others to feel. ]

Haha. So you get it.

[Its nice, to see someone understand.]

Maybe this is the place for you, outside of...that story you come from.

I thought so too. I still think that way.

[ But he thinks about it for a while, the feelings swirling into a neutral wonder. ]

I know Gaku will want to return though, and probably bring me with him.

Gaku?

Is that your boyfriend? Where does he come from?

[ Sometimes Ellis has to remember not everyone is eager to hear things from the grapevine on the island, so he nods. He just assumed Steinbeck knew for some reason. ]

He comes from Japan and it seems safe for the most part. Definitely the city though. He's a performer.

[HE JUST ASSUMED BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE. EVERYONE IS TOGETHER IN SOME FASHION]

Oh, I've been to Japan! It's a nice place. I'm sure you'll love it there.

It's not as oppressive as you describe it?

[ Since that's sure what it sounded like. ]

Haha, no, I mean. I've been to the cities. But I've been to the countrysides, too. You should visit them while they're there.
