[ Hopefully everyone had fun on the Arco Lunar! The morning after the boat departs from the docks, a letter arrives to your mailbox: ]
Hello, intrepid adventurer!
I am excited to have you along for a group excursion to the mysterious new island! In two days' time, let us gather in the town square and set off from there! Please be prepared to stay the night. It will be so fulfilling and memorable for everyone to spend a night on an adventure together!
If you have any questions or concerns, please come find me at my flower shop in town or at the forest farm where I live!
Sincerely,
Oriphi
[ If she accidentally delivered it to a few wrong mailboxes, then... Oops!
On the promised day, once everyone (and likely a few surprise tag-alongs) has gathered or been gathered, Ori distributes little paper bags of snacks to everyone. Inside are cookies, oat snacks, and a freshly-picked apple from her and M-21's orchard. Do with them as you please... Just don't let her catch you throwing it into the sea or something. 🥺 ]
Alright. I think we should head out, then! Thanks for coming along, everyone! I hope it'll be a great time. Oh, and please don't forget to drink plenty of water and use this incredible ointment I discovered on this island! It's called "sunscreen!" Tieflings don't really get sunburnt, but you should use it!
[ And with that our intrepid adventurers set off to the mysterious, dangerous, unknowable... resort island! ]

Man.
Ellis immediately chooses to heal Mellon because as a healer, he should heal. Roles are important. He can't just abandon them, especially in a tense situation like this. Try to heal a few more if he can. Does Ori have buff spells too? ]

Magic coalesces with your staff as a conduit, and with one word - Go! - light arcs toward Mellon, enveloping him in a warm healing light that fades some of his bruises and cuts. You know that this was a small healing spell - to cast something more substantial, and even to buff him, you know that you would have to close in and be within arm's reach of him even for just a moment. But it should do, for now.
The Patron laughs, over in his corner of chaos.
"Why are you all so intent to protect them? Sian, who's caused nothing but grief for your little group?"
"Well, you see, Mister Yugoloth," responds Dae, flicking his spellblade, causing blood to spill forth, "Sian promised they would stay and be the first full member of the Alchemighty when this is all done."
Will you close in to buff Mellon, or join the fight against the Patron, or something else? ]

There are a myriad of things that you know you can do in this situation. Mellon is within reach, and with a palm pressed to his back, you cast Enhance Ability on him. In just another second, he starts moving more dexterously, making him almost impossible to hit. Quickly, he flashes you a smile and a nod as he's artfully dodging a kick from the Cultist Leader.
As far as offensive options, you can use your staff as a melee weapon on either enemy, attempt to manipulate the battlefield to your favor, target either the Patron or the Cultist Leader to cast an elemental spell, or call forth a spirit of nature. ]

The ground begins to rumble beneath you. And then in an instant, roots burst through the stone floors and lash out at the enemies in an attempt to restrain them. It works on the Cultist Leader - but before you can turn to check if it worked on the Patron you see that he is already right in front of you.
His vulpine mouth spreads into a grin as he looks down at you.
"Ah, little Miss Oriphi. Always a pesky one, aren't you? What do you think you're doing, hm?"
You hear Sian scream from not too far away. They are still wrapped in a magic bubble, but you can hear their muffled voice:
"Don't you touch her!" ]

Jab him with the staff! ]

"Tsk. You know, if Sian and your friends here won't give me what I want..."
You know what he wants. He wants for Sian, who holds the rest of the Stones of Gran Karrefour - that you've all shed blood and sweat and tears to gather - to hand them over. You are all very determined to make sure he doesn't get what he wants. Your mission has always been to find a way to destroy these Stones.
"...Then I'll just have to make them. And what better way than to strike at the heart of the party, hm?"
An arrow whizzes by, but misses. When you look, you see that Aerie already has another arrow nocked and aimed at the Patron, and Dae is swiftly making his way over.
"Hey!" Aerie shouts, "We weren't done with you."
The Patron clicks his tongue, bracing himself for an incoming strike at the business end of Dae's spellblade. He is distracted.
You feel a dark energy coalescing at your fingertips. You know that as much as nature can give life and energy, it can just as easily take it away.
Will you lean into it and attack while he is distracted, try to move away, or something else? ]

On the other side of the battlefield, the Cultist Leader breaks free of your vines, but he's soon assailed by a series of powerful strikes delivered by Mellon, his efforts bolstered further by a psychic spell from Colin...
You try to move away, and for a moment you think about trying to get to any one of your friends to buff them, but—
"I think we were quite done here, actually," the Patron says to Dae and Aerie, before appearing in front of you again in a blink. "Now, where do you think you're going, my dear Oriphi? You wouldn't want to miss the show - you're one of the main actors, after all. What will your friends do when I kill you in front of them?"
He reaches out with one hand behind him and with a blast of force magic, he sends Aerie and Dae flying backwards to where Sian is trapped. Your blood feels like it's boiling. You can't go down, here. Not when you finally have Valphi back.
You feel that dark energy pulse at your fingertips again, prickling your skin with heat. He raises sharp claws in your direction. Will you try to block his attack, or will you lean into the dark magic? ]
no subject
But Ori was nothing but nice to him. If she somehow dreams of this, he wants it to be not completely miserable.
...
Block it. ]
no subject
But for now... You know that this dark magic doesn't feel like that same, fathomless, unknowable darkness that seeps out of the Death Diamond and permeates the air of this wretched place. But it's also not a sort of magic that you tend to use, all the same. You heal, you manipulate the elements. But this...
The Patron's claws meet the gnarled wood of your staff, causing him to grunt in frustration.
"Ah, ah, ah. I still have you right where I want you, little druid."
His blocked hand curls around your staff and pulls you in close just as he sweeps his other hand up. Vulpine claws pierce through your leather armor and skin and sink deep into your torso.
The echo of that dark magic fades somewhat, but in its place you feel your blood searing as it races within and flows out of the wounds in your stomach. Distantly, you hear Sian scream inside their bubble, and faintly you can see your other friends begin to bolt in your direction.
Do you want to retaliate with a necromantic spell, a fire spell, or use your staff? ]
no subject
Also, that stomach wound? That hurts like a bitch, and he knows it'll hurt more especially when the Patron moves his hand, but Ellis would rather get him away as soon as possible. ]
no subject
"You— You bitch!" But before long he begins to laugh as he staggers backwards. "Hah— Little hellspawn finally out to play! Delightful!"
You keel over, and your free hand clutches at your stomach. It hurts. It hurts.
(Although, if you were to assign some kind of numerical point value to the amount of hurt he inflicted on you... and to the amount of hurt you inflicted back... You get the feeling you did more. Just saying.)
But even through the pain, you manage to mutter: ]
...Shut up. And stop... Stop hurting my friends. You think... You think Sian is so weak without you, don't you? Because you give them their powers. But you're wrong. Sian has us.
[ The energy of the battle surges. Just beyond the Patron, Mellon and Colin deliver martial blows and spells alike, and the Cultist Leader falls. A cathartic moment for Mellon, you're sure. And now - Dae and Aerie close in, each attacking the Patron with their swords. The demon screeches with each blade impaled into him, though he can't resist calling you all fools in the midst of it all.
You take a moment to heal yourself, at least enough so that you can stand upright without much issue.
How would you like to deliver the final blow?
> By hand (?)
> Attack with your staff
> Use nature magic
> Let your friends do it ]

The Patron seems to be barely standing on his feet by this point. He's keeled over and clutching at the wounds on his body, and you know in that moment what you must do. An impossibly warm, glowing light begins to coalesce in the palm of your hand, as if you were conjuring sunlight, and then that arm reaches out. A radiant beam of sunlight shoots out towards the Patron as he screams in pain - until suddenly, there's no sound.
Your sunbeam spell fades, and in its wake is... Nothing. Your friends stand, stunned. The protective bubble around Sian fades and they fall limp to the ground. Dae and Aerie rush to their side immediately.
"What just..." Colin says, "No. Wait. I don't think we killed him. He just disappeared.
An unsettling feeling brews in the pit of your stomach. Sian's confrontation with their patron isn't quite resolved, but for now... the battle is over. All around you are the corpses of the dead cultist monks, now the Cultist Leader amongst them.
...You're so tired. But you did it. You saved Valphi, you found the missing Princess Alyria, and now... the Death Diamond is within reach. You know that your long quest may soon be coming to an end...
The memory feels as if it's at an impasse... but it could surely go on, for Ori's memories don't stop here. Sian may need your help - and so could your sister. Then there's the matter of the Death Diamond. What would you like to do, intrepid adventurer...? ]
no subject
Let someone else handle the Death Diamond if they can. If Ori is the only one, then he'll go. Otherwise, go to Sian. See how they're doing. ]
no subject
"Ori... Can you help them?"
You nod, and kneel beside the elven woman cradling the changeling in her arms. Your hand passes over their face before your fingers gently take hold of the mask that covers their face and pulls it of. What you see is a face that almost looks like a blank slate, alabaster skin and lips and white eyelashes rimming closed eyes, framed by wisps of white hair. They are unconscious. You brush some of Sian's white hair away from their face and rest your hand against their cheek before you cast a healing spell.
They do not stir.
You could ask for the others' help, or perhaps try a different way of trying to wake them up, or... ]

They're alive though, and should come around eventually. If they were dying, that would be a different story altogether and Ellis would have suggested jump starting their heart.
Let's give them a moment. ]

You and Aerie watch Sian's unconscious visage solemnly. Colin, meanwhile, crosses over and kneels next to you to rest a hand on your shoulder, squeezing it reassuringly.
...And then Dae comes back with a rather purposeful gait, and squats down before he simply starts slapping Sian on the cheek a couple of times.
"Sian! Si-an! Sian Sian Sian Sian - come on now, there's still work to be done! Don't worry, your Patron disappeared into thin air! Siiiiiaaaaan—"
The changeling's eyes flutter open before long. "Wh... Wha—Stop slapping me!? Gods!"
You can't help it, but you chuckle. As much as the villains like to target you and call you the "heart of the party" for whatever reason, you know that without your friends, there would be no party, or a heart.
Dae relents at last, but this time it's Aerie who grabs Sian by the cheeks. "How are you feeling?"
"Like crap."
"Sian," says Colin, "Your magic. Can you still use it?"
"...No."
But you had a feeling this would happen. Sian so fully opposed their Patron in this confrontation, it would make sense for him to take their magic away. It all came from him, in the first place. Yet still... You know this was the right move, for your friend. You're proud of them.
The Death Diamond still awaits, and so does your sister. What would you like to do? ]

Go see the sister! ]
