Hello, intrepid adventurer!

I am excited to have you along for a group excursion to the mysterious new island! In two days' time, let us gather in the town square and set off from there! Please be prepared to stay the night. It will be so fulfilling and memorable for everyone to spend a night on an adventure together!

[ If she accidentally delivered it to a few wrong mailboxes, then... Oops!

On the promised day, once everyone (and likely a few surprise tag-alongs) has gathered or been gathered, Ori distributes little paper bags of snacks to everyone. Inside are cookies, oat snacks, and a freshly-picked apple from her and M-21's orchard. Do with them as you please... Just don't let her catch you throwing it into the sea or something. 🥺 ]

Alright. I think we should head out, then! Thanks for coming along, everyone! I hope it'll be a great time. Oh, and please don't forget to drink plenty of water and use this incredible ointment I discovered on this island! It's called "sunscreen!" Tieflings don't really get sunburnt, but you should use it!

[ And with that our intrepid adventurers set off to the mysterious, dangerous, unknowable... resort island! ]

[ What the fuck, Is exactly the thought rising up in He Xuan's head, in those precise words.

This thing thinks it can consume him? He'll see who's laughing in the event he's the one doing the devouring here.

He Xuan snarls, swinging his other hand to slam into where the hardened sludge is connected with enough force to shatter such things, including the portion that's already made it so far up his arm.

Disgusting.

Even in a place like this, summoning water under his command isn't impossible, and so he calls some to rise from where it lies deep in the ground, where the other is standing, colored black, weighted heavier than any kind of normal water. The kind he uses to drown things or people who enter his waters. The intention is to have it pull the man to the ground, and keep him pinned, underneath a crushing pressure from this water. This is all assuming he has his powers here. ]

[ He Xuan is free to go nuts with his powers here if he'd like. The water have been bursting from the underground pipes into black water and launched at Renatus, who takes the hit. When he's crushed to the ground, his body explodes into bits of sludge everywhere. He reforms quickly with partial amount of sludge that exploded from his body before and if He Xuan gets that form, it'll happen all over again.

But then he might notice that there's a slowly growing void that's inching closer to Fifty, who's bound to the ground with blackened roots that pierce his side and dig into the soles of his feet. It's extremely painful and good thing no one can hear it because this is a soundless world, courtesy of how Ellis remembers it. ]

[ You know, this is reinforcing his intense dislike of gods (whenever he figures out this is one), because man.

Anyway, troublesome nuisances aside, he has to put his potential terrible choices on hold because he certainly has been keeping on an eye on "Fifty"; being aware of your surroundings is key not to discovering unpleasant surprises far too late. Making sure he is also keeping note of Renatus' position...

...He Xuan is moving quickly, and then he's slashing at the blackened roots with claws—using both hands. Assuming that works his next planned course of action is to try to grab at Fifty and pull him away from the void. ]

[ Renatus should be an outlier because he's gross physically, mentally, and emotionally. The worst kind of thing no matter the species.

Unfortunately, the blackened roots as tougher than they look and hold Fifty down in place while there's a hazy look in Fifty's green eyes as he blearily looks up at He Xuan. Who... is this? He's not worth getting into a tussle with a god for. His long black hair reminds him of someone. His expression too. Who... Who does it remind him of--

Renatus was making his way towards Fifty and He Xuan, until there's a giant, shadowy maw that looks like it'll eat all of them, but it only devours Renatus and recedes. A guy with short black hair and odd checkered eyes shows up with a very distorted speech bubble overlapped with distortion with a once shadowy arm, that now looks normal. It's hard to read, but one thing he says gets through clearly:

"Get out of here, quickly--"

He looks sick and abruptly turns away, but at least he seems to expect what happens next, which is... him throwing up the same sludge as before followed by Renatus bursting out of the man's body like a fresh bug cocoon. This is why devouring Renatus has never worked. Sorry, He Xuan.

"Oh. Right."

Renatus turns to He Xuan and Fifty and smiles with a wide grin all over his bloody face.

"Where were we?" ]

[ ............ ]

What the fuck.

[ Congrats, Renatus got him to be even more disgusted than before, and he realizes he has just avoided something very unpleasant.

He Xuan immediately concludes that this man is more of a threat than he originally gave him credit for. But 'Fifty', who is more or less Ellis, quite obviously, is still in a predicament.

So he summons his clones instead to try to hold him back, you know with some hand to hand combat. Pretend he brought out twenty or so for now.

Meanwhile, he will reach out for the roots. He has two other ideas in mind to try to get them out of where they are now. So he will try his next one—let's see if he can break them or tear them out by using his superior strength. Which is likely to be unpleasant, but it's okay, sealing up wounds isn't going to be impossible with his current powers either. ]

[ He Xuan will be successful, since he's a very powerful ghost king and those claws did quite a number on the blackened roots. Since Renatus seems heavily distracted, they don't seem to grow back at a ridiculous speed either. He doesn't seem very bothered that He Xuan seems to be getting away with this, but when he's finally had enough fun with the clones, he makes them small in infinite halves until they're so small that they can't be seen by the naked eye alone.

Since Fifty was lying down on his back, it's not apparent how bad his wounds are until He Xuan looks or feels his back. The roots screwed into his back, coiling. It will surely hurt if he's moved. ]

[ Good to know his quick-thinking distraction tactic has worked out for the better! Though, the indifference is also duly noted—something which can be indicative of certain factors. His retaliation doesn't go unnoticed either.

But, well.

Keeping the other man well within his sight, he reaches with a hand, fingers moving to ensure that there are no more of those roots remaining. If there are, he will have to pull them out at the same he uses some spiritual energy to transfer, in order to heal the wounds up. ]

Why?

[ Why was this necessary? Why was this done to Ellis? He Xuan doesn't anticipate he will like the answer he will receive, but speaking a bit more than that is difficult, making him even more shorter with his comments than usual. He's already angry enough. ]

[ Fifty is free from the roots completely, so He Xuan can honestly try carrying and running away with him somehow, assuming Renatus won't chase them. He will heal! Awesome. He still feels weak though.

"Why?"

The speech bubble pops up, but even without sound, one might almost hear how ridiculous he sounds with the absurd expression he makes that seems to suggest that he's flabbergasted.

"With those powers, I shouldn't have to wonder if you get rid of things that oppose you, do I? If something is purposely created to go against you, of course you would want to get rid of it. That plot device," He's talking about Fifty because of course he is, "is no different." ]

[ ...

He Xuan is so petty to the point where he doesn't want to agree with the point of 'if something is purposely created to go against him, he'd want to get rid of it', and well, you know what? Renatus can suck it. ]

You're afraid of him.

[ Naturally, he can't allow this fool to do as he pleased. Whether or not he's telling the truth, his aim is clearly to kill Ellis. Wherever this is, whatever this all means, this is a fact—he pulls anymore water remaining, still in their surroundings, still in the ground, from the pipes, and directs it towards Renatus. The amount being most certainly enough to engulf the man within, and then his next intention is to try to trap him within it, and then underneath all of that heavy weight of water, freeze it. ]

[ All Renatus does is laugh as he's frozen along with the water. It doesn't look like he'll move.

Fifty slowly heals and looks at He Xuan with another confused stare. Who is this man? Why did he save him? He's even healing him... he's never met He Xuan in his life. So, why? ]

[ Why are so many gods like this? Damn.

But like this, He Xuan can kind of try to brainstorm to find a way to permanently get rid of him since destroying his body seems to cause trouble.

But first, he turns his attention back to the other looking at him with a confused look. ]

We should go.

[ Right. Of course. Fifty is well enough to slowly stand now, despite his ankle having been bent in a bad way. It's fine. It's healed, so he should be okay? Maybe.

Fifty signs to He Xuan. Even if he doesn't know, there will be a speech bubble next to Fifty that will translate for him: ]

"Thank you."

[ That should be the end, right?

Right...? ]

No need for thanks.

[ ...

Yeah, He Xuan doesn't know sign language, but the speech bubble helps.

...It should be the end, but is it? He'll move to ensure that Ellis is behind him, and then slightly just. Nudge him along, while also taking a look behind them, where he has that god in his frozen prison.

He floats around some ideas in his head just in case, actually uncertain for once in his life if they would work, but he doubts that the powerful man has stopped remaining a threat. He Xuan isn't in the habit of underestimating people often. ]

[ Renatus is as still as ever back there within his frozen prison. It's a good thing that He Xuan isn't in that certain habit, because in the blink of an eye, He Xuan will be seen walking alone in that same setting: burning buildings, wrecked underground pipes, where the roots used to stick out of the ground...

... except now that He Xuan is midair and Fifty is seen held over the void pit that had grown extensively large to the size of a giant water fountain. Renatus is seen standing plainly where he was before without the frozen prison, holding Fifty by the collar.

"Did you think that a fictional character could stand a chance against a creator in real life—much less a god? You must be stupid to think you had a chance. You're nothing now--not in my story, not anywhere."

And so, Fifty falls into the pit. Renatus looks up at where He Xuan is with a smile.

"Too bad. It's a story set in stone, so it won't be overwritten."

Then He Xuan will wake up. ]

[ ...Yeah, maybe there was a sort of feeling that things weren't going to go too well. But, still.

Man, seriously fuck this guy.

The only consolation? That it doesn't mean the other is truly dead or anything like that. ]
