prologue

You awake to find yourself in a bed that creaks with your every movement, motes of dust flitting about the sparsely lit room. Whether you wake alone or with another by your side, you exit the worn-down building to find yourself on an old, abandoned farm. It isn’t long before a familiar voice lilts in your ears, carried to you on the breeze—

“Hurry over to the town square. Chop chop!”

Whether you go willingly or find your feet inexplicably compelled to trudge into town makes no difference. Once you arrive, you find yourself surrounded by a small ocean of new faces— some confused, some angered, and others quite chipper. At the center of the crowd is a bright-eyed woman with an otherworldly allure, her white hair tied up neatly in a bun, pamphlets and assorted papers tucked in her grasp.

“Welcome to Crescentview, farmers!”

Spreading her arms out wide — as much as she can without her papers blowing away — she eagerly regales the crowd with some fun facts about the island and the town while also reminding everyone of one very important fact:

“Remember, you’ve been brought here to tend the earth, fall in love, and begin your new lives together. You’re not leaving until you do. It will be quite the experience for you, I’m sure.”

Complain, grouse, or rejoice if you like, but don’t expect the Goddess to budge. Oh, right, there’s that too: she, the Harvest Goddess, is the one presiding over this land. Don’t get on my bad side, she gently warns as she stuffs pamphlets into the hands of Crescentview’s aspiring farmers.

While you’re here, you may as well check out the pamphlet the Goddess insistently pressed into your hands. Within it, you’ll find a handy infographic on each of your neighbors detailing their likes, dislikes, and... ideal dates? Even the Goddess’ profile is there. How invasive! Each farmer’s picture is hand-drawn by crayon into simple stick figures with the only difference being how the hair looks on top of their heads… if it can be called hair with the mess of crayons, that is. Every single stick figure is smiling. In front of each personalized pamphlet, there’s a stick figure on the cover with the same style as the photo. It’s definitely yours with how the hair color seamlessly matches yours. For the ones who have multicolor hair, you might notice the goddess seems a little more huffy with you.

The pamphlet also includes a map of Crescentview and lists the services available in town. There aren’t many on this small, remote island. Learning how to fend for yourself seems like the best course of action. Finally, a hand-printed bingo card has been made up for each new island resident. The Goddess must have spent quite a bit of time making these...

The Goddess gives her new questionably loyal followers a chance to mingle and mix before speaking up with another announcement. A small group of haggard-looking fairies appear at her feet, and clapping her hands, a notice board springs into existence. When the fairies fail to react, she gives one a nudge with her foot, prompting them all to burst into the world’s smallest round of applause. It’s a little... pathetic.

“Ta-da! Behold: the task board. Every season, I’ll give you new tasks to complete, and in exchange, you’ll be richly blessed by me, the Harvest Goddess. Spring is the season of new beginnings, so let’s take a look at what we’ve got cooking, hm?”

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from December 1st to January 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

1. Greet your neighbors. For every person you meet, you will be given a random bag of spring seeds. Potato, cabbage, turnip, strawberry, and cucumber seeds are available at this time. Alternatively, random mushroom spores are also available. These include morel, matsutake, and common white mushroom spores. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards. Please specify how much of each you would like when submitting your threads, i.e. “I’d like 5 random spring seed bags and 5 random mushroom bags, please!”

2. Exchange names. Start learning some names and faces: you’ll be seeing a lot of these folks! For each name you learn, you’ll earn a random bag of spring flower seeds. Daffodil, tulip, forget-me-not, primrose, and hyacinth are available this season. This task can be completed a total of 10 times for rewards, and yes, you can cheat the system and introduce yourself to someone you already know, but the Goddess won’t like it.

3. Check out your new farm. Take a look around and settle in! After a bit of wandering, you’ll notice a small cat or dog following you around and looking up at you with them big ol’ eyes. Looks like it wants to stay with you, but will you adopt it? This task can be completed once.

4. Till your field and begin planting. Find the beat up farming tools in your beat up house and begin beating your farmland into submission. Plant some seeds and be rewarded by the Goddess with a single chicken or rabbit to keep in your coop. This task can be completed once.

5. Visit another farm. Pay one of your neighbors a visit to receive a stationary set blessed by the Goddess herself. There are no cell phones or Internet on the island, so get used to sending all your “LOL”s and “XDDDD”s by hand. This task can be completed once.

6. Make a new friend. Isn’t friendship wonderful? For each person you proclaim to be your friend, you will receive two random gacha items. This task can be completed 3 times.

7. Pray to the Goddess. Whether you do so grudgingly or willingly doesn’t matter much to her so long as you’re doing it! Clasp your hands together and bow your head or throw an offering into her pond— she’ll hear you either way. Praying to the Goddess will net you a barn animal of your choosing: a cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task may be completed once.

Caution: throwing certain items into her pond may have consequences. Choose your offerings wisely.

Diluc will spend the rest of the day cleaning up the house before he tills the field in the evening. When Kaeya returns, Diluc will be gone and he'll stay gone for the next couple of days. Eventually, however, he returns to find... Kaeya doing something in the field. Surely not working. what da dog doin]

[ Well, this isn't the first time that Diluc has randomly left on his own accords. Since Diluc is far capable of taking care of himself, Kaeya doesn't worry when he's gone for a few days. During that time, he keeps himself busy with doing bingo squares and the jobs on the task board. Once it's proven that the goddess is a woman of her word, dolling out rewards almost immediately, he has been working away like a good boy. ]

[ From the outside, it doesn't appear like there's much improvement, but the interior and roof have been completely fixed. Furthermore, Kaeya got trimmings, carpets, tablecloths, and new blankets. It looks actually quite cozy now. As for the front in the field, Kaeya has been planting the seeds that he's gotten for his completed tasks, insert whatever they may be once i submit and approve the threads. In fact, he's in the middle of planting a few right now when Diluc returns. ]

[ He stands up and wipes his forehead with his sleeve. ]

Well, that was three years shorter than last time.

[What do you mean Kaeya actually put effort into fixing up the farmhouse? Surprise lifts Diluc's brows, irons out his scowl, but he doesn't otherwise react— not that he needs to. Kaeya knows what surprise looks like on Diluc's face.]

Pinch me.

[Except don't. It's just hard to believe Kaeya has gone to these lengths in the time he was away, but at the same time, it really isn't. The Goddess must be a woman of her word, then, otherwise Kaeya wouldn't be working in the fields in earnest. Hm.

Disappearing into the house, Diluc immerges sometime later with a bottle of cold water.]

You've done enough. Come inside and eat.

[ Kaeya is slightly amused at Diluc's reaction. Hey, he can work hard too. He wouldn't have become a captain otherwise, but as Diluc goes inside, he stays out to finish planting the rest of the seeds. ]

[ When Diluc comes back out, he stands up again. ]

Oh, will you be cooking for us?

[ Wiping his face once more, he starts to head inside. It's at this point that a very tiny but extremely fluffy Pomeranian comes out from the sidelines to follow him. Huffing happily with a wagging tail, it sticks close as it looks up at Kaeya with loving eyes. heart eyes motherfucker ]

Dinner is already done.

[...But what's with that dog? It's looking up at Kaeya like he's its own personal god. He has a bad feeling about this.]

The dog stays outside. I don't need to tracking dirt into the house.

Don't be cruel. They need food and shelter too.

[ When he stands still, the dog sits down next to him. It's utterly smitten by Kaeya, so if Diluc thinks he can keep it out, he is more than free to try. ]

[The number of pains in his ass just multiplied. Acquiescing with a sigh, Diluc walks back towards the house.]

Don't feed it scraps off your plate. Oh, and wash your face before you eat.

[Nag nag nag.]

Yes, mother.

[ Nag nag nag, haha, but Kaeya will do exactly as Diluc instructs. He goes to wash up his face and hands. He'll have to take a shower right afterwards to get all that sweat and dirt off. The lil doggy will follow nearly every step that he takes, sitting down next to his chair when he gets seated at the dining table. ]

How do you like our new home?

[ praise him for the good job ]

[Settling at the table, Diluc gives the house a good once over, nodding briefly. Quite a bit has changed in such short order, but he does appreciate living in a home that actually feels like a home.]

It's much improved over how it looked before. Now I'm the one who's slacking.

[I'M SAYING IT BEFORE YOU CAN ICHI]

[ Kaeya will start to dig into the meal, mmm, delicious. ]

That Goddess was telling the truth about the bingos and tasks, so you better start at it.

Very well. Let's discuss our next course of action over dinner, then.

[ It's honestly a miracle that Kaeya makes it home in one piece. Always known for being graceful on his feet, it's utterly bizarre and humiliating to trip and stumble around all the way back home - it's all the more embarrassing when he's also soaking wet. Ugh, this is the worst. ]

[ He opens the front door and tracks in both dirt and water... ]

[Look what the dog dragged in. Diluc is in the kitchen putting the dishes away when Kaeya comes bumbling in, which is strange enough, except... no, perhaps he's drunk. Diluc sets the glass down on the counter with a loud clink.]

Tracking mud into the house, Sir Kaeya? Take your boots off.

[You know better!]

[ Kaeya is in no mood to humor Diluc or make any quips back, so he just starts to remove his boots. However, he fumbles and one boot goes flying across the other side of the room and he falls right onto his face. This clumsiness curse can't go away soon enough. ]

[Ah. Even for Kaeya, this is a measure behind clumsy. Diluc exits the kitchen with a sigh and approaches the fallen Kaeya.]

What's wrong with you?

[ Kaeya is already getting up, more than a little agitated by all these events. He'll take Diluc's help, but he'll nearly tumble over his own feet while trying to get up. ]

A particular Goddess thought it'd be fun to throw a curse on me.

[It takes another hand on Kaeya to get him upright, and not only has he tracked muddy water into the house, but all of him is soaked to the bone. That damned goddess is responsible, is she? He'll withhold his sighs of frustration— they ought all be directed at her.]

Don't bother walking. You'll just end up tripping over yourself more.

[ Luckily, it's a relatively warm day so Kaeya isn't freezing while standing around in his soaked clothes. He is an angry wet kitty. Even when he says his usual quips, they're still dripping with annoyance. ]

Oh, are you offering to carry me around?

[Copping an attitude on top of everything else, Kaeya? Diluc sighs, but he's going easy on Kaeya, all things considered. He went and got himself cursed, but he's done much to make life around here easier. This isn't the time to rake him over the coals.]

I am. Tell me everything that happened so I can plan accordingly.

[ At this moment, Kaeya isn't aware that he also has the unfortunate effect that he can't lie anymore. Right now, as irritated and upset as he is, he's telling the truth so no major revelations yet. ]

One of our fellow hostages decided to use me as an offering for the Goddess. Unfortunately, she didn't find me likeable enough to her tastes.

[That's... pretty far from surprising, but Diluc's expression remains placid, hauling Kaeya up in his arms.]

Really? And whose bright idea was that?

[Because surely Kaeya had no hand in that whatsoever.]

[ Kaeya is hauled up! And he doesn't particular like it! Hissssss angry kitty ]

Didn't catch his name, but he's a rather ugly fellow with silver hair. Almost as no fun as you.
