dec mid-month event.
mid-month event
With Crescentview’s newest citizens settling nicely, the Goddess has summoned everyone back to Town Square for another round of announcements. This time, her summons comes to you in the form of a hand-written note. If you happen to be out working in your field, one of her fairies will hand it directly to you, looking a little more sprightly than they did the first time you saw them. Otherwise, expect to find her request/demand to meet up in Town Square in your mailbox.
introducing: the memo board
The Memo Board is now available in Town Square. You may post messages here to your fellow neighbors, send out requests for assistance on the farm, or even solicit local singles for hot dates! Post whatever you like whenever you like. You can even post messages to the board anonymously if you so desire. The Memo Board is available here.
But wait, there’s more! The Goddess has given everyone a fun relationship-building exercise. How well do you know your neighbors? Can you identify them based on their writing alone?
By December 22nd - 12:00pm EST, please have your character submit an anonymous message to be posted to the Memo Board. Their message can be about anything they’d like and there is no length requirement or restrictions. After submissions have been received, characters will be given an opportunity to review everyone’s messages and guess which character wrote which memo. Answers will be revealed on December 29th - 12:00pm EST. A single correct guess will earn you a horse while each additional correct guess will net you a vegetable, flower, or mushroom spore seed bag of your choice. Good luck and have fun!
it's time to dance!
Every Spring 15th, the annual Flower Dance is held in Town Square. Villagers gather to dance with one another and celebrate the upcoming harvest and offer their prayers to the Goddess. Folks are encouraged to dance not just with those they fancy, but their fellow neighbors as a way to express gratitude and appreciation for the friendship and company they provide.
ICly, the dance takes place on Spring 15th and goes from 9am to 9pm.
task board
In addition to the tasks currently available on the Task Board, a handful of new additions have been added. You may continue to work on tasks from the previous event in addition to these new tasks, but please note that tasks may only be completed within the month they are assigned. Summer starts next month, so please have all of your tasks completed and submitted by then!
The new additions are as follows:
1. Post a notice on the Memo Board. Stick up an anonymous memo and earn a single chicken or rabbit to add to your coop. You may post as many notices as you like, but you will only redeem the reward once.
2. Correctly guess who posted a memo. Discuss these anonymous notes with one another and guess who may be the author. Between December 22nd and December 29th, submit your IC votes (link coming on the 22nd) and if you guess correctly, even just once, you will get a horse! You may guess as many times as you like, but you may only redeem this reward once.
3. Partake in the Flower Dance. Pick a partner for a round of dancing, pray to the Goddess, or just celebrate the good times! For every person that you celebrate the event with, you will receive a random bag of seeds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, or mushroom spores. This task can be completed 5 times.
4. Send a letter to your neighbor. This requires you to have acquired the stationary set from the first event, so if you haven't claimed it yet, get to it! You can post letters directly on the main community or set up an inbox in your journal to send and receive hand-written letters. For each letter that you send, you will get a random gacha item. This task can be completed 3 times.
5. Harvest your crops. On the 14th, you'd be surprised to find that all of your crops are now ready for picking - even if you've only planted them the day before. The crops look bright, flavourful, and ready to be picked, so eat them, trade them, sell them, whatever! For every interaction that you have involving the bountiful harvest, you will receive a new set of clothes. This task can be completed 3 times.

Trahearne has hung around the edges of the crowd for most of the day, but people still find him. He briefly regards Adelis with a tilt of his head before grabbing a drink of his own and settling in nearby. ]
I'm not sure. I think I simply prefer to watch.
no subject
truth be told, he's seen this one out of the corner of his eye while he's been making his rounds, skulking about without much intent to participate. were he not in need of social interaction (partially against his will), he likely would have done the same.
but they're both here now, and adelis merely takes another sip of his whiskey before letting out a soft hum. ]
Even when our dear Goddess is dangling such generous rewards in front of us? Perish the thought. [ she'd probably be sick of his sarcastic shit by now if she could hear it. ] I'll hardly blame you, however. There is only so much one can tolerate when it comes to being jostled about.
no subject
I have done my duty. I'm not sure I can go beyond what's expected of me, however.
[ He has done his dancing. He doesn't want to do more???
He turns to look at Adelis, brow quirked. ]
It sounds as though you've had just enough of this as I have, my friend.
no subject
Well said, as there's no point in overextending for free.
[ he may be a workaholic, but only when there's proper recompense involved. that, and he's held hands with far more people than he's used to in a single day. any more, and someone is going to think he likes getting cozy.
adelis lets out an exasperated noise, letting the liquid in his glass lightly slosh as he gives it a shake. ]
While I've no trouble in putting on a show for a while, this place is far more mirthful than I'm used to. All the cheer and spinning is liable to give me an headache if I keep at it.
no subject
A small smile crosses his face. ]
Luckily, there is plenty of space for people like you and I to sit on the sidelines should we so choose.
[ He is very glad it is not compulsory dancing. ]
Truth told, though, I don't mind the cheer. It's a good reminder that things are relatively peaceful here.
[ This all still feels like a dream sometimes. ]
no subject
that gets a bit of a snort in response, although whether it's a genuine laugh or not remains to be seen. he's in a good enough mood, though, so it's likely the former. ]
Peaceful. Certain I've heard that word more times since I've arrived then I ever have in nigh 20 years.
[ it sounds a bit stilted, strangely- things like 'peace' and 'mercy' sound awkward in his native language, since there's no real words for them. ]
Hells if I know what to make of it. You'd hardly find places giving away anything free to the lowborn, especially...but I'm not going to turn it down, since it's been offered.
[ even though it took him quite a while to take the plunge, like he expected it to be poisoned somehow. ]
no subject
Trahearne gives a solemn nod at that as he takes a sip. In all his twenty-some years of life, he's never seen peace like this before, either. Even in the wake of the Pact's first victory, there still loomed the threats of the other dragons. That was not peace. This is peace. And he doesn't hate it at all.
He glances at Adelis with a smile. ]
Indeed. We would be fools not to embrace what's been given to us.
[ Especially for Trahearne. He doesn't feel like he gets much of a choice in this matter. ]
It sounds as though a life of conflict is something we are both more familiar with.
no subject
it's almost funny how opposite sides of the spectrum they are, given by how adelis doesn't comment, opting to instead reach and exchange his empty glass with one of the full ones nearby. he probably shouldn't, given how his tolerance has gotten worse, but he feels he needs it. ]
Conflict nearly seems to be putting it lightly.
[ a click of the tongue. he flickers his gaze towards the horizon, with all it's melting oranges and yellows as the dusk threatens to fall. ]
Hah, but you seem like you're adjusting rather well. [ in one way or another....adelis takes another drink, looking vaguely sour. ] Likely better than I, I assume- I had never seen the sun before, and nearly went bloody blind right out the gate.
no subject
Trahearne idly watches Adelis retrieve another glass as he takes a sip from his own. His hair, his limbs, his face have all begun to pulse with a faint purple glow as dusk settles in--his time of day.
He tilts his head curiously as the other elaborates. ]
You'd never seen the sun before? [ Mild surprise comes through in his voice, though he's fairly certain Adelis isn't the first person he's met to be from circumstances like that. It's not his place to share, though (nor is he entirely sure on his assumption, and he's not one for idle gossip). ] If that is our standard, then I suppose I would have an easier time adjusting.
[ He leans forward a little in his chair. ] What sort of circumstances do you hail from that have prevented you from seeing the sun?
no subject
it takes adelis a good minute to realize what he's witnessing here, and when he does, he has to do a double take. he doesn't stare- at least, not obviously, but that...that's new. he's going too refrain from commenting, however. ]
the surprise in turn doesn't surprise him, as he's gotten used to the fact nearly everybody here sans himself and one other seems to be used to the bloody thing. ]
As most have thus far.
[ some with better reactions than others. ]
It simply doesn't exist in our sky. [ there's a momentary pause, as he mulls it over with newfound knowledge. ] ...Not anymore, at least. [ a dismissive wave of his glass. ] Most haven't heard even of it, except for the oldest and most unbelievable of wives tales. Ostoya is of the endless dark, where our 'day' is when the moon and stars are not above us.
no subject
Fascinating. You must hear this a lot, but I can hardly imagine what it's like.
[ After a quick sip of his drink, he brightens a bit. ] You know, I remember when I first felt the sun--it was invigorating. Have you come to like it, initial blindness aside?
no subject
[ it's blunt, without an ounce of hesitation. he has no praise whatsoever for his home, other than the fact it breeds hardiness, and this is punctuated by another swig. he probably should be slowing down, but if they're going to force him out here, he'll take advantage of every free drink they'll give him.
adelis takes a moment to mull over the question, the last vestiges of the light fading over the horizon, before he lets out a sigh. ]
It's...colorful. And warm, I suppose. [ it's hard to describe exactly how he feels about it, in ways he'd be willing to. ] The night feels more familiar, but I don't dislike it.
no subject
He mirrors Adelis and takes a sip of his drink, still eyeing him. As the sun sets, his eyes, hair, limbs all grow brighter. ]
I find the sun offers the greatest source of comforting warmth--that, I agree with.
[ Another sip. ]
I'm glad to hear you're coming around to it. Perhaps in time you'll come to appreciate what night and day offer as opposites.
[ One cannot appreciate what the other offers without its counterpart, he thinks. ]
no subject
he opts not to comment on 'comforting'- it's not something he'd like to admit so readily, even if he finds himself laying in bed some mornings, slowly computing the light peeking in from the heavy curtains. it'll still take a while to get used to the new normal. ]
...'Tis true Lady Night has her own comforts, despite it all.
[ it comes out in a mutter, like it's irritating to admit, but the night feels nearly uncomfortably far less suffocating without the unpleasant things that like to thrive beneath it around.
...ugh. well, enough of that. adelis might as well sate some morbid curiosity while he's here. ]
Pray tell, what kind of place do you hail from, then? Humor me.
no subject
His expression brightens at mention of his own world. He lowers his glass and gently cradles it in his hands, like the entirety of Tyria itself was contained within it. ]
Tyria is a vast and beautiful place. It is just as full of delight and discovery as it is rife with danger. [ His gaze drops from Adelis and into the drink in his hands as he swirls his glass. ] Dragons threaten all peoples and all life in our world, and we never quite know if we will live to see the next day...
Actually, have you met Commander Syrlya yet? He's here with us.
[ A smile spreads across his face as he looks out over the crowd, trying to find him. ]
no subject
perhaps he feels some vindication that this 'tyria' is not safe, either. at least he isn't the only one used to things far more dangerous. ]
Dragons. [ it rolls off his tongue. ] I can't say we've many of those. I've heard of them, but yet to ever see them. Undead are moreso the source of our troubles.
[ it would be nice if the burn of the alcohol helped offset the cooling of his skin. unfortunately, it's a lost cause, and he instead forces his attention to the question with a bit of surprise flickering on his face. ]
Yes, I know of him. [ more than expected, probably. ] He's assisted me before- a pleasant man, that one. We were speaking just a bit earlier.
no subject
The mention of undead, however, pique Trahearne's interest. He files that away for later. ]
Were you? [ For now, though, he's perfectly content to talk about Syrlya. He turns back to Adelis, wide smile evident on his glowing face. ] I encourage you to ask him more about the battle with the dragons when you get the chance--I would say he's the expert in the dragon-slaying department. I think it's safe to say that he is a true hero to Tyria and its people.
[ This is his "Syrlya is special and important" voice. ]
no subject
That certainly is some warmth and affection in that tone, isn't it. That smile combined with his singing praises is nearly nauseating so unused to such things, and as such Adelis opts to take another long drink and nearly empty the glass before he tackles whatever this is. Something tells him he's not going to want to be entirely sober for this one. ]
I believe it came up briefly in our lengthy discussion, albeit it turned moreso to the differences between our homes- namely that of the magical nature.
[ He still feels rather cold, despite the dusting of red on his face at this point. Maybe if he swigs another, it'll take the edge off. ]
You sound as if you're rather familiar with each other. A soldier as well, perhaps?
no subject
Trahearne leans in his chair, crosses his leg as he gets comfortable. Start taking shots, Adelis. ]
We are, yes. We were both commanding officers in an organization called the Pact--our sole purpose was to fight back against the dragons that threatened Tyria. I served as marshal--its leader. Syrlya is my second-in-command.
[ A pause to sip. ]
We were acquainted before that, however. I did not appoint a stranger my second-in-command out of the blue.
no subject
Still, he's listening- despite the layers of praise, which Adelis cannot say himself is well deserved or not, he doesn't mind learning a bit more about other places. It keeps things interesting, despite the twinges of bitterness some give him. ]
I would hope you wouldn't. Only a fool would trust so readily someone he's just met.
[ A bit blunt, but he's speaking from experience. Kind of. ]
I imagine that sort of position weighs as heavily as they come. I could never take one, myself. I assume that's why you're enjoying your impromptu vacation, or whatever the hell they see fit to dub this experience as.
no subject
Trahearne gives a slow, deliberate nod at mention of the weight of the position. It was a lot, and he would be hard-pressed to say he was eager to take up the mantle at first, but he grew into it in his own way.
His being here is a little more complicated than that, though. ]
I'd call this more of a retirement than a vacation. [ He flashes Adelis a wry smile before finishing off his drink, setting it aside. ] But I am enjoying it nonetheless.
[ Who would he be if he weren't?
The look he gives Adelis is his way of prompting him to elaborate on his own displeasure. ]
no subject
That earns a quirk of the brow, if only because that's hardly a word he ever hears. 'Retirement' is not a term most Ostoyans will ever know, in any way shape or form, but he knows enough to know what that means. ]
My. Perhaps you're far older than I anticipated.
[ 'Tis a joke....or is it?
He sees that look, and merely leaves it hanging in the air for a few moments before he deigns to answer himself. ]
I'll gladly stay here rather than return, regardless of her intentions. I didn't spend years preparing to leave the accursed earth I grew up on just to give up this opportunity. [ A click of the tongue. ] I am not, however, pleased with her prying and brazen attempts at forcing bonds. I've had enough of that shite to last me a long while yet.
[ His glare slips to his bare hands, the pallor of his skin and the coldness that's taken over now that a while has passed since his last dance. ]
no subject
Patiently, he waits and listens to Adelis's answer. And when he hears it, he gives a nod. At last, he's met another who sees this situation as more nuanced than his other acquaintances thus far. As much as Trahearne himself appreciates the goddess for what she's done, the overreach does not escape him. ]
It is a bit more complicated for those like us, isn't it? [ He turns his gaze upwards to the darkening sky. ] Happy--grateful, even--to be here, unlike many of those who would rather return to their homes at once. Yet the goddess's will seems to override even our own.
[ He turns to look at Adelis again, following his eyes to his hands, then back up again. He makes no note of the color. ] And I'm not sure how I feel about that.
no subject
If there's one thing I've come to detest the most, it's being under the unmoving thumb of those who enjoy making other's dance for their amusement.
[ Certainly, it's better than home, not having to lock your doors every night and being little more than cattle in a pen of death, but it's far from perfectly ideal, evidenced in the disgusted twist of his features. ]
I will take what I am given, and I'll work without much complaint. I'm not some ungrateful wretch. [ A wave of the hand. ] But hells if I'll happily let someone tamper with my bloody will.
no subject
After a moment of thought, and after gazing out over the dancers one more time, he drops his head in a nod, his eyes closing. ]
We are much the same in that regard. It heartens me to know I am not alone in that sentiment.
[ He opens his eyes again. ]
I'm glad I chanced upon you today, but I don't think I ever got your name.
