mid-month event

With Crescentview’s newest citizens settling nicely, the Goddess has summoned everyone back to Town Square for another round of announcements. This time, her summons comes to you in the form of a hand-written note. If you happen to be out working in your field, one of her fairies will hand it directly to you, looking a little more sprightly than they did the first time you saw them. Otherwise, expect to find her request/demand to meet up in Town Square in your mailbox.

introducing: the memo board

The Memo Board is now available in Town Square. You may post messages here to your fellow neighbors, send out requests for assistance on the farm, or even solicit local singles for hot dates! Post whatever you like whenever you like. You can even post messages to the board anonymously if you so desire. The Memo Board is available here.

But wait, there’s more! The Goddess has given everyone a fun relationship-building exercise. How well do you know your neighbors? Can you identify them based on their writing alone?

By December 22nd - 12:00pm EST, please have your character submit an anonymous message to be posted to the Memo Board. Their message can be about anything they’d like and there is no length requirement or restrictions. After submissions have been received, characters will be given an opportunity to review everyone’s messages and guess which character wrote which memo. Answers will be revealed on December 29th - 12:00pm EST. A single correct guess will earn you a horse while each additional correct guess will net you a vegetable, flower, or mushroom spore seed bag of your choice. Good luck and have fun!

it's time to dance!

Every Spring 15th, the annual Flower Dance is held in Town Square. Villagers gather to dance with one another and celebrate the upcoming harvest and offer their prayers to the Goddess. Folks are encouraged to dance not just with those they fancy, but their fellow neighbors as a way to express gratitude and appreciation for the friendship and company they provide.

ICly, the dance takes place on Spring 15th and goes from 9am to 9pm.

In addition to the tasks currently available on the Task Board, a handful of new additions have been added. You may continue to work on tasks from the previous event in addition to these new tasks, but please note that tasks may only be completed within the month they are assigned. Summer starts next month, so please have all of your tasks completed and submitted by then!

The new additions are as follows:

1. Post a notice on the Memo Board. Stick up an anonymous memo and earn a single chicken or rabbit to add to your coop. You may post as many notices as you like, but you will only redeem the reward once.

2. Correctly guess who posted a memo. Discuss these anonymous notes with one another and guess who may be the author. Between December 22nd and December 29th, submit your IC votes (link coming on the 22nd) and if you guess correctly, even just once, you will get a horse! You may guess as many times as you like, but you may only redeem this reward once.

3. Partake in the Flower Dance. Pick a partner for a round of dancing, pray to the Goddess, or just celebrate the good times! For every person that you celebrate the event with, you will receive a random bag of seeds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, or mushroom spores. This task can be completed 5 times.

4. Send a letter to your neighbor. This requires you to have acquired the stationary set from the first event, so if you haven't claimed it yet, get to it! You can post letters directly on the main community or set up an inbox in your journal to send and receive hand-written letters. For each letter that you send, you will get a random gacha item. This task can be completed 3 times.

5. Harvest your crops. On the 14th, you'd be surprised to find that all of your crops are now ready for picking - even if you've only planted them the day before. The crops look bright, flavourful, and ready to be picked, so eat them, trade them, sell them, whatever! For every interaction that you have involving the bountiful harvest, you will receive a new set of clothes. This task can be completed 3 times.

wildcard - cat swarm me

[Curiosity has taken over and Konoe explores the island several different times during his first week here. He tires easily these days, and can't wander as far without resting. Unsure at this point how far it is to return to his own farm, he's passing by Ellis's, looking for a nice spot to nap, and occasionally stooping to pick up some pretty flowers and tuck them into his belt. What he'll do with them later, he doesn't know, but perhaps he'll dry them and decorate his kitchen area with them, brighten it up. As he wanders further into the fields looking for a patch of long grass, his tail sways back and forth in content.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis comes out of his house to look over the farm fields like usual, but then he sees... a catboy? He hasn't looked at his pamphlet in a while and wonders if he got added in, because physical cat traits among people are rare. It's quiet when Ellis goes behind Konoe and tries to grab him by the tail. Is it real?? ]

[He doesn't notice any shift in the grass or noise besides what his own clothing makes brushing against the long blades, nothing but his own footsteps, until something gets too close to his tail; he can sense it then, spatially, for just half a second before his tail is grabbed. It's not hard, maybe no intention to pull, but the appendage is sensitive and and the nerves along his tail and up his spine spark with a muted crackling of electricity. Immediately, he's wrenching his tail out of Ellis's grasp, and turning to face him in a bit of a crouch. Tail now safely wrapped around his waist, Konoe has his hand out, claws in an attack position. He hisses and glares.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis squeaks from being startled and jolts back a step even though, really, this was his fault. He's surprised that Konoe is also acting like a cat, because all the cat people he's seen (read: not many) have been relatively... human-like. He tilts his head in slight confusion.

But after Ellis comes the swarm of cats. There are so many--at least thirty of them. They see a fellow cat and they don't hiss at him like they would usually do to strangers. The dogs and cats are pretty nice and used to people on the island, but some of them seem confused. Is he our kind? Is he not? He smells different. ]

[The squeak has Konoe backing off a bit, straightening, but keeping a glare fixed on Ellis.]

Don't just go touching...

[He trails off as the cats approach, a horde of little furry bodies through the long grass. Konoe makes a squeak of his own and his ears flatten. He knows them, they look like the ancient depictions of the animals once servants of Two-Canes, and whom gave birth to the Ribikan race. Cats. The beings he and others of his kind took the name of, to honour them.]

Cats.

[At first, he's a little frightened of them; so small and different. He knew they were smaller, but they're not even the size of Ribika kittens. They smell off, and the noises they make are strange. Slowly, he crouches again, ignoring Ellis completely, staring at the closest one as if it might impart its wisdom or confirm Konoe's sudden theory that he's somehow traveled back in time, disregarding the Goddess and the farms and previous explanations. His tail uncurls from where he's kept it close, creeping out to brush against one of the cats'. A gesture of greeting when they're too low to the ground for him to properly rub his face against a furry shoulder.]

[framestory]

[ Some of the cats start rubbing against him, mainly his face and shoulders when Konoe crouches down. Some even purr. Ellis is fascinated as he watches Konoe like this. Does he speak cat...? Not like Ellis would know how to interpret cat language, but this situation is really interesting.

Then he wonders if Konoe is also affected by catnip.

... ]

[The purring is contagious, and a rumbling sounds from Konoe too. He's quite fascinated by them, the little army of cats and their affection. They had been a concept before, relics of the past, and despite their differences now, he can see their movements as similar to his own. He gently repeats their motions and dares to press his nose against the tiny ears. They have tiny weird feet and hands that he pokes at curiously. Though he's never meowed before, he attempts to copy their sounds, but doesn't understand them in that way. He'll continue to play with the cats and let them explore and climb over him. Only occasionally does he glance over at Ellis, in slight confusion, wondering where all the cats came from, how they exist here.

Catnip is a controlled substance for them and they smoke it in taverns and mix it in liquor. What is this canon...]

[framestory]

[ Every time Konoe glances at him, Ellis tilts his head. Is there something he wants to say? He's not sure, so he gets out a notepad and writes: ]

Do you like them?

[kuim]

[Konoe stares blankly at the notepad, and tilts his head in unconscious mimicry. He squints, his purring growing erratic, then he growls a little in frustration.]

... I can't read it.

[He huffs and turns his attention back to the cats, the heat of embarrassment creeping over his face.]

[framestory]

[ Oh.

Ellis puts his notepad away. He's not sure what he should do against someone who can't read. Maybe he can draw pictures...? But he doesn't think he's good at getting his point across with that alone. Hm. Hmmmmm.

But Konoe blushing is really cute. He'll try to gently pat his head. ]

[kuim]

[The rumbling purr keeps stuttering like a broken motor as Konoe's fur bristles and his tail lashes aside, shoving at one of the cats. He's flustered and awkward, but can't help it as he presses ever so slightly up into Ellis's hand. He's never been good at curbing instinctive behaviours most of the Ribika look down on.]

Don't do that.

[It's more of a gruff little whine than anything else. But he gets an idea, and does the same to one of the cats at his feet. It purrs louder and moves to nuzzle into his hand. He is just like them.]

[framestory]

[ The cats are like Konoe's children, is what Ellis suddenly thinks of. Look at how much they adore him! He doesn't hear the purring but he definitely felt it when he patted Konoe's head. He withdraws that same hand though. He wonders what Konoe eats... fish?

He tries to draw a picture of a fish on the notepad and shows it to him. It looks cartoony, but it still resembles a fish. ]

[Looking at the notepad again, he understands it this time. It's a fish. But what does it mean? He'd be a little more irritated at the communication struggle between them if the cats weren't so... adorable. A strange word to use for them, maybe, but it's fitting. They have pretty fur and tails and they purr so comfortingly. Looking at Ellis, Konoe isn't sure if he's even being heard, but he did seem to know what Konoe meant with not being able to read.]

Do you... want fish?

[framestory]

[ Ellis shakes his head no and points to Konoe instead and then pointing back at the fish drawing. Does he want fish? ]

[kuim]

[Oh. He chews on his lower lip; he's not particularly hungry, but fish can't really be turned down now that it's been offered. Besides, it can be saved for later.]

Okay. Where's the stream?

[Presuming they are going fishing and not to a market.]

[framestory]

[ They will actually be going to neither of those places! Ellis gestures for Konoe to follow him. When he gets closer to the house on the farm, he might smell... something like fish. Most cats are following Ellis, though some still stick with Konoe. ]

[kuim]

[Following Ellis up to the house, cats crowding up in front and trailing behind, the previous tiredness that had set in has been vanquished for the moment. His steps are light and his tail sways to unheard music. Soon, there's a salty fishy smell on the air. He hopes there's enough for all the tiny cats too, because now he's hungry despite denying such thoughts earlier.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis gestures to Konoe that he wait there and the cats don't invade the house. They all sit outside, waiting for Ellis. He eventually comes out with grilled fish in a small container and hands it over to Konoe. It's a very fatty tuna seasoned with olive oil, salt, pepper, and lemon. It's also in bite-sized pieces to make it easy to eat. ]

[For a moment, Konoe's fur bristles and he huffs internally; confused as to whether he should be offended to be left outside with the cats, or whether it's an honour. He joins them though, sitting on the front steps as they rub against his legs. They all seem to perk up when Ellis returns and the smell of the fish drifts over more prominently. Konoe accepts the container and sets in on his lap, taking a piece of the fish out and looking at it before tasting it with a tentative lick, purring in satisfaction as it's deemed acceptable, and munching happily.]

It's very good. Um...

[Asking about what the flavourings are, the pepper and lemon, is difficult, because he expects pictures in return.]

Uh, thank you.

[framestory]

[ Ellis smiles and nods. He wants to tell Konoe that if he wants more, he can give him some. He caught a lot of fish several days ago...

The cats meow and try to climb Konoe for the fish, but Ellis takes out another batch of fish meat and lightly tosses it so that they can eat. It's fascinating how the cat swarm just moves together. ]

[kuim]

[Konoe watches the cats eat with some odd feeling; a kinship, and it makes him want to get on his knees and eat the fish that way too, but he refrains from his ridiculous instincts and takes another piece from the container.]

Did you prepare them yourself?

[Perhaps there's a simple non-drawing answer for that.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis nods. That would usually be it, but he also draws a simple art of a person fishing in the ocean. on his notepad and shows it to Konoe. He fishes his own fish. ]

[kuim]

[He nibbles at the fish while Ellis draws, a bit curious about that too. It's something else he doesn't do, any sort of sketching.]

[framestory]

[ Ellis grins and nods. The cats seem to be thankful too as Ellis continues to lightly toss pieces of fish here and there.

He wants to tell Konoe that he can drop by any time, but communicating is hard... so he just smiles at him. ]

[kuim]

[Smiling is enough to sort of get the sentiment across, and Konoe returns it easily. He'll take any kindness in this strange place.]

You're welcome to come by my farm when you like, though I won't have anything as good as this fish.

[A warning that he doesn't know what he's doing when it comes to food beyond hunting small game and finding edible grasses.]
