summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

[ here tighnari is, visiting the beach.. at least he had the foresight to dress appropriately, in a loose top and comfortable shorts, but the heat still feels unbearable, the sun beating down on his dark hair and fur. tighnari groans, sitting down hard on his towel, beneath a convenient umbrella, and tugs off his shirt. across his chest and down his back and left arm spiders a lichtenberg scar, like discolored roots crawling across his skin. ]

It's so hot..

[ he's practically wilting, here. but out of his bag he removes a bottle of sunblock, which he begins liberally applying. the things he does just to get an alpaca, ugh!! he rubs the sunblock into his arms and legs and chest, everywhere he can reach, before turning to the person beside him. also, since he is without boots and gloves, please do note that he has both toebeans and fingerbeans. it's very cute. ]

Would you mind getting my back? I can get yours, if you need it.

[ ah yes. how did he end up here? who can say.. tighnari looks Very Uncomfortable on this stage, but he's not unused to public speaking, so he manages. his tall ears lay back, his tail flicking from side to side - there'd better be some good seeds coming out of this endeavor!! no need to be gentle on him, he can manage.

also, feel free to have him judge your character on the stage, as well! ]

a question for a question and also flower crowns;

[ tighnari can easily be found in town, with a small woven basket on his arms, full of lush, woven flower crowns of all types - most of them bioluminescent, glowing in the early evening, dim and slanting light.

in his free hand, he carries a small notebook and pencil. when he sees you, his tall ears perk up, and he snags one of the crowns from the basket, offering it forward. ]

Guarding your skin against sun damage is important. The last thing I want to deal with is a burn.

He seems momentarily taken aback to be given something, especially out of the blue like this. The surprise shows on his face for a moment before he is glancing away, pulling his hat down to obscure his gaze. ]

[ tighnari is putting on his Diplomacy Hat here and not bringing up the fact that scaramouche had fucked up mightily in the past, and also struck him with lightning. ]

[ tighnari turns his notepad around to face the wanderer, where all the questions are scratched out in neat handwriting. ]

He groans in apparent displeasure, but he doesn't refuse once Tighnari shows him the list. Oh, right, he'd seen these questions before. Childish, but ultimately harmless. ]

Cereal? In this case, it's a breakfast item, usually sweet and made of grain, that you eat with milk. There are several varieties and flavors. I'm assuming this question doesn't apply to you, if you don't even know what it is.

[ Sounds GROSS. Wouldn't milk just make the grains all soggy? Imagine eating wet mouthfuls of sugar. ]

[ On a certain summer evening, Cyno decides to unceremoniously bring up a Very Important Topic. He's a little fidgety because it is truly a Very Important Topic, yet goes for it anyway after thinking things over. ]

There's a square that has a term VCR and chill on it, is that right? I have asked around what does it mean just in case.

[ He doesn't know if Tighnari had enough time to research every single bingo square one by one, but he has the forest watcher's back. ]

[ it's evening, and they're sitting on the sofa together, just finishing up their meal when cyno pipes up. hmm. he looks a little nervous, which tighnari finds strange; it's not like cyno to be uncertain about anything. setting his bowl onto the rickety coffee table, tighnari leans back. ]

[ he's figured out the "vcr" part, since the device with the "television" has VCR stamped right on the front of it, but he doesn't understand the phrase fully. ]

Did you find out?

Yes. What's interesting it doesn't have anything to do with lowering your body temperature.

[ His slightly flushed cheeks might be the best proof of it. ]

In this context, it means sexual intercourse.

tighnari's brows shoot up to his hairline, his eyes snapping wide. he's quite used to cyno's bluntness, and he appreciates it even now, but it's still a surprise to hear. cheeks flushing a warm pink, tighnari's ears fold to the sides. ]

I.. see. Well, that's certainly good to know.

[ ahem. ]

But you said that you didn't want to fill the squares simply for the sake of it, didn't you?

[punnyshment]

[ Tighnari's response to his words turns out to be a chain reaction—Cyno's cheeks are tinted pink as well at he can tell it might spread all the way to his ear sat any minute depending on how this conversation goes.

And the question he hears next definitely helps with that. ]

That's correct. [ Cyno casts his gaze down. ] It was easier to ignore what I wanted when we were apart, but now...

[ He trails off, but at least his eyes are back on Tighnari again. ]

Oh! Er, I mean...thank you very much. It's beautiful...

[ she gently takes the crown between her fingers, and studies it, delicately lifting at the petals. flowers that glow like these...she's heard of them, but never actually seen them.

with a little bow of her head, she puts the crown on, and smiles. ]

[ she seems pleased with the crown, which means that tighnari is pleased, also - he smiles. ]

[ and then.. the questions! nodding, tighnari lifts his notebook and turns it toward her - on it, in his neat handwriting, is a list of all the scavenger hunt questions. ]

I'm not sure if "travelled around the world" really applies...just because the way my world works is kind of unique, in that sense. But I've been to a fair number of the Titans, so I would consider myself well-travelled, to an extent. And my socks are...not really black or white, I suppose? If you could call them socks.

[ tighnari's pencil flies across the paper, jotting down her words, though he definitely has some questions.. but first: ]
