summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

[ tighnari is meandering down the street outside, and stops abruptly at the question, tightening his grip on his basket of mushrooms. oh. hi. his brows lift, and he glances from the notepad to ellis's face, before giving him a cursory look-over. ]

Well, yes, I suppose you do.

[ Great! Also, he doesn't really have much personal space boundaries to speak of, so he tries out to gently touch Tighnari's ear. ]

[ woah hey hands off the ears!! tighnari draws back quickly, and his ears lay back flat against his head in annoyance. ]

Hey! What do you think you're doing?

[ Ellis gasps as he watches the ears go down. That was so cool! His eyes seem to be sparkling as he watches Tighnari in wonder before scribbling on his notepad. He isn't taking notes. Promise. ]

Are those real? That's so cool.

[ well, tighnari isn't sure that this guy has learned his lesson entirely, but he's not reaching for his ears anymore at least, so.. ]

Yes, of course they're real. Why wouldn't they be?

Sometimes people have fake ones.

[ That's why! The tail looks so... full and lush too. He feels like it would be a super nice pillow... ]

Fake ones..

[ huh. why would anyone do that?? it's not like he ever wants to wear fake human ears.. but anyway. his tail swishes back and forth, it's soft and lush indeed!! ]

Anyway, while I have you here, would you mind answering one of these questions for me?

[ fishing his notebook from his pocket, tighnari opens to the third page and turns it toward him - on it are written the scavenger hunt questions! ]

And maybe afterward, you'd like to go for a quick jog?

[ Ah. Ellis nods and points to "born in the summer" and "speaks two languages". The latter is a stretch, but he still counts for it. Thanks, technicalities. He nods at the jogging question too. Ellis will definitely jog in these maryjanes. Don't worry about it.

But then, he points to the questions as a whole and points to Tighnari. He'd like to ask him of the same thing. ]

[ excellent. tighnari takes a moment to scratch down a note, though he soon lifts his head - ]

Oh - could I have your name?

[ he's not sure if he needs it, but.. better safe than sorry. he's also been very rude in not introducing himself, he thinks, even if this guy tried to grab his ears!! ]

My name is Tighnari, and I can speak more than two languages, and I'm wearing orange socks. I also work out more than five times a week, if you count hiking.

[ He flips back several pages in his notepad nd points to his name, "Ellis". He smiles and looks down to try and see orange socks. Not that he doubts Tighnari, but the color choice feels so peculiar until... he sees them! And they surprisingly fit him well. Huh. ]

Ellis - excellent, thank you.

[ he jots that down quickly, then pockets his notebook again, tail swaying. considering how colorful tighnari's clothing already is, the orange socks do indeed go with everything!! ]

Well now, ready for that jog? Or do you.. need to change, first?

[ Ellis nods. Don't worry about his maryjanes. He'll still run. ]

I can go now.

All right then, if you're sure.

[ tighnari begins to stretch a little. ]

I won't keep you for long.

[ Ellis nods and starts jogging a little. His maid dress is long, but it doesn't drag on the floor, so he's good. Jogging in those shoes aren't too uncomfortable either. He tries to keep an eye on Tighnari's face so that he can tell whenever he's saying something though. ]

[ and they're off! tighnari keeps a light pace; he doesn't exactly do well in bright summer sunlight, so he doesn't want to give himself heatstroke. his ears waggle as he jogs. ]

Ten minutes or so should do it.

[ Ellis looks at Tighnari's ears waggle... they're so cute. What the heck. He does his best not to be tempted to grab them, digging his nails into the maid outfit as he continues to jog. He nods in response to Tighnari... then looks down at his shoes. Are they also meant for running in? ]

[ just rank up your friendship level with him, ellis, then he'll let you touch his ears all you like. for the most part. and tighnari's boots are indeed comfortable for running in! he jogs and climbs and hikes in them all the time.

as they round a corner: ]

Hanging in there?

[ Ellis is only a runner when he needs to run away, but he's not doing so bad. He nods. His feet are apparently doing fine... ]

Good.

[ they round another corner, soon enough. tighnari has excellent stamina, and he's used to being very active even in the rainforest heat and humidity, but there aren't many trees here in the town (compared with the forest), and the summer sun beating down on his dark hair and fur is taking its toll..

it isn't long before tighnari is panting hard, his ears drooping. ]

[ If Tighnari is tiring out, Ellis is too. He eventually slows to a halt and... ugh. He wants to sit somewhere. He's exhausted. Help. He should have brought water bottles. ]

[ oh dear!! tighnari is overheating, but he's not exhausted - at least not too exhausted to be unable to help. he always has a waterskin on him, thankfully, and he's quick to unhook it with one hand, offering it forward. ]

Here, sit and take a drink.

[ Ah. He's thankful for that, so he takes it and takes a big gulp out of it. Whew. He nods and holds it back out to Tighnari as thanks. Looks like maid outfits aren't meant to be worn for exercise purposes. Who would have thought. ]

[ yeah... yeah. ]

All those ruffles.. I should've known you would overheat in them, I'm sorry.

[ he takes a nice drink of water himself, he's also pretty flushed and sweaty.. ]

[ Ellis shakes his head. he wanted to see it for himself, so really, it's his own fault. He holds up his notepad after writing in it. ]

You look tired too. Maybe we should both stop for the day?

Ah..

[ he looks a little sheepish, and rubs the back of one ear. ]

I admittedly don't do well in the heat, so.. yes, perhaps we ought to break here.
