summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

i - beach day;

[ With the weather as pleasantly warm as it is, Gaku can't help but gravitate towards the beaches here, decked out in a swimsuit and button up shirt that he's left unbuttoned as he makes an attempt to fulfill some of those tasks up on the board.

Currently, he's working on a sandcastle, patting down one part of it after lifting away the bucket to reveal a neat cylinder. Any passersby get a shout and a wave so Gaku can get their attention. ]

[ Much like the other task, Gaku wastes no time in getting right down to business with anyone else he comes across. ]

What do you fill out on that scavenger hunt list? I was born in the summer, play a musical instrument, work out five times a week, and my socks aren't black or white.

iii - workout;

[ The island is pleasant to run around and is something Gaku has been doing on most mornings since he's arrived. It's been a while since he's been able to actually run outdoors without attracting attention.

This time, however, he actually is trying to get attention. Should he pass anyone on his run, he stops and turns to look at them. ]

[ Gaku decides that he'll help M-21 out with some of his bingo squares, and since the paddle boat sounded like one of the more active options, he went for that.

Which is why they're now side-by-side in one of those boats, Gaku quickly churning the pedals so they can get out into the middle of one of the many lakes on the island. ]

Didn't even know what one of these was before the bingo.

[ If M-21 seems like he's concentrating on this unnaturally hard, it's because he totally is. He doesn't know how fast regular humans should be able to pedal this and he's trying not to kill Gaku. ]

[ He's so focused... it's honestly kind of cute, but it would be much less so if Gaku knew why he was so attentive. Right now, Gaku's pace seems decently fast, although it's certainly still too slow for M-21. ]

I've seen them around the city, but never had a reason to ride one myself. They're usually meant for couples.

[ He's trying to think of a less romantic activity and failing, but on the other hand, what he knows about romance would not fill a thimble. ]

[ unlike gaku, though, will be uta dressed in a white sun dress not too unlike the one she arrived in wearing a strawhat and sandals. tragically as well for gaku, she is unfazed by his appearance. sometimes you grow up with a bunch of dudes who she has seen drunk and naked (apparently), there are just things you've become numb to. i think.

if anything, she's far more mindful of the ocean than anything else. ]

Sure, I don't mind. [ kneeling next to him. ] Despite all of the time I've spent by the ocean, I don't have a lot of experience with building sandcastles.

[ mainly due to the fact of how close to the ocean you have to be to accomplish this, but that's neither here nor there. ]

[ He doesn't mind the lack of reaction, but he definitely thinks she looks adorable in that dress. Then again, Uta always looks cute. ]

I don't have a whole lot of experience myself, so I can't promise our castle will be any good.

[ He grins, filling up another bucket with some wet sand. ]

[ she won't go readily touching the sand just yet as she casually gauges to see how much or if there is any remaining water from the ocean inside of the bucket. it is nice to be starting on the same skill level, so to speak, as someone else. ]

If fun is having key then I'm sure we'll have plenty of that.

[ she'll start to carefully draw lines into one of the "castle walls"(?) that gaku had already set up with a finger. castles had fancy engravings on the outside of them or something like that, right? ]

So, do we just put the sand into the bucket and turn it upside down? Is that how it'll work?

[ When Gaku asks Danielle, who's out on a stroll with her stiletto boots, she looks at him for a moment. ]

[ Oh. It's that woman.

Gaku smiles a little. ]

Yeah. You can do it, can't you?

[ Gaku doesn't know that Danielle fights in these. It's fine. ]

[ Gaku promised him snacks and a story (not in this particular order), so one beautiful summer day Noé finds himself at Gaku's door to listen to it all. After knocking a few times, he just stands there, hoping for the best. Please let him in, he wants all the tea... he can offer cringe in return. ]

[ It doesn't take long for Gaku to answer the door, and he smiles when he sees Noé waiting there. ]

Hey. Come on in.

[ He steps aside, and gestures towards the couch. The house is completely remodeled and filled with a homey amount of furniture, making it feel like a comfortable space. ]

[ His eyes are sparkling, Gaku's house looks so nice and cozy. So this is what it's like when you do the bingo squares properly, huh!! Maybe Noé should try that. ]

Do you have hot chocolate by any chance?

[ Don't judge him, it's summer outside but hot chocolate is good. ]

[ Ryuki blinks rapidly, coming back down to earth after spacing out for a minute, probably watching the Goddess go over the Hot or Nots. ]

Huh...? Oh, I -- don't think I...

[ He gets Tama to go down the list of traits for the scavenger hunt, and in the brief silence as he's thinking, his expression turns strained as he realises... he doesn't fit any of these qualities. ]

[ And just dips down to try to pull at the cuffs of his own slacks to check what colour his socks are!!!!!! Sorry for being weird on main, Gaku. ]

[ You know what? It's fine. He'll just... watch as Ryuki tries to figure out what kind of socks he's wearing. ]

[ He's eagerly awaiting those results! ]

He glances up from where he's hunched over on the ground like a creature, smiling awkwardly. ]

[ Mona certainly doesn't look like she's dressed for a run, what with her being in her regular Teyvat attire. ]

A run? [ She considers this for a second. ] Well, sure. Why not? I could use some exercise.

[ And she says nothing about needing to change clothes or anything of the sort. ]

[ What is with people here and running in ill-fitting clothes? ]

[ Her outfit suggests she does something athletic, at least. It's built for easy movement, even though running isn't on that list. ]

Sure? I don't mind. If you don't mind picking up the pace a bit. [ it's a joke, and maybe a bit of a challenge, but he does seem genuinely excited at the prospect of working out with gaku. ] You'll really help a guy out with bingo, though? No takebacks?

[ He laughs, only seeing that as a challenge. He'll go as fast as Achilles wants. ]

Yeah, of course. I'll say no if it's something I don't wanna do, but we can figure out another square instead.

Of course. As much as I hate to be ordered around, I figure it's the same for others too. [ he nods sagely at that. ] Besides, I wouldn't want to get in your way of finding your destiny. [ which he believes gaku to be fully capable of discovering here.

but, with that he does rustle out his card to look at as they're jogging. ]

[ Ellis sent a letter to Gaku to tell him to come over to his home. He has finished his latest experiment using his own crops: dried apple chips. Definitely oven baked. But there's something curious at the end of the letter that read: ]

Someone anonymously sent me some raunchy text about you. I think you should take a look.

[ So if Gaku decides to come over, he will find Fluffy running over to him in great joy as usual. Ellis seems to be inside the house, with the door unlocked during the day as usual. ]

[ Gaku greets Fluffy with all the love and affection he deserves, even crouching down to give him a few pets before finally going inside to find Ellis.

When Gaku finds him, he taps him on the shoulder. Ellis should be expecting him, after all. ]

[ This is why Fluffy loves Gaku. Best human.

Ellis jolts when he's tapped on the shoulder, even if he's expecting him. He leaves the door unlocked, but it still surprises him... at least he doesn't have violent reflexes.

He was washing a kitchen knife and Gaku can see what he's been cutting on the cutting board: apples. He smiles a little to greet Gaku and holds out a bag of dried apple chips. Here you go! ]
