jan event.
summer has arrived
As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.
Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.
Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.
This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.
hot! ...or not
Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.
task board
The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.
Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.
Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.
This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.
Find someone who...
1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white
Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.
Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.
Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:
1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.
2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.
3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.
Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.
1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.
2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.
local happenings
The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.
Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.
A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.
A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

Of course. As if the blinding wasn't bloody bad enough-
[ He likes the sun, he really does, for all his insistent bitching- but it's really putting him through the gauntlet here. At least someone here is straightforward enough, even if the explanation doesn't help his dour look- he's filing it away, anyway. ]
Perhaps this would have been more useful to know before I spent all damn morning in the fields...
[ He's not accusing Trahearne, despite his hissed muttering. It's more of a general thing, given he's glaring more at his skin than anyone else. The suggestion, however, earns a suspicious glance, as does the, uh....branch? He takes it in a brief moment of bewilderment, but voices his concerns all the same. ]
The clinic-? Is it honestly that serious to require a medic?
[ He's, uh...never really dealt with anything that wasn't a healing spell or a Syndicate ordered professional, and those are in severely short supply. Doctors are hardly a staple for people who can nary afford food to begin with. ]
no subject
Oh well. ]
I don't know the specifics--I'm no expert on the machinations of the human body. [ He turns his attention to the path ahead. ] But I have seen colleagues fall victim to sunburn, and it's the recovery period that seems to take the biggest toll. As far as I've observed, it can be pure agony if not given the proper treatment and aftercare.
[ He glances over at Adelis again. Sorry, not pulling any punches today. ]
Preventative measures are your best tool. Granted, you did not know of this ahead of time, but consider it a lesson for next time.
no subject
The description is not doing him any favors. His grimace deepens at that, and while he's certainly no stranger to agony in particular, he'd rather not end up laid up unable to do much recovering from something so...asinine. ]
...Just fucking wonderful.
[ Adelis will glare some daggers into the taller man's back for that, but regrettably, it is the truth. He knew shit, and now he's paying for it. He'll be making some serious additions to the medicine cabinet after this. ]
I already was. [ Considering that is, as he strides with all the countenance a particularly ornery cat who's had his tail stepped on. ] I don't intend to allow this to happen again. Once is bloody enough.
no subject
He's also rather used to the other feeling--glared daggers in his back. That feels more like home. He lets it roll off him; his personal feelings in the matter aren't really the point here. ]
Good. Then you hardly need me to tell you twice. [ He glances over again, his expression neutral. ] At least you will be well-equipped to handle the sun in the future.
[ Assuming the summer lasts much longer... Assuming they are stuck here for another year.
And good thing the island is quite small, too. The town comes into view before long. ]
no subject
His gaze flickers back as he tightens his grip on the branch a bit too much, threating to break it or have the bark cut into his hands. He despises...being forced to rely on people, or having moments of weakness. His lack of knowledge is more an endless source of frustration than anything else, even with the burning curiosity that accompanies it. ]
Hardly. And I'd rather not receive any more unwanted surprises.
[ What the fuck next. Is it going to blow something up just because it feels like it?
He squints through the harsh light at the approach of the town in the distance, and finally glances back at his companion with a click of the tongue. ]
...While I've never really been to one before, I doubt they just take whoever walks in the door whenever the mood strikes.
[ He...has a questionable idea of what doctors and clinics are. ]
no subject
If they were, they would be terrible doctors and not at all fit to serve us.
[ His shoulders square a little bit, little spark of anger igniting on Adelis's behalf. ]
Don't worry. I will make sure they reconsider if they even think of turning us away.
[ congrats adelis you've been adopted ]
no subject
He's never had somebody get so angry on his behalf before, he really doesn't know what to think. Besides Trahearne is fucking weird, that is. ]
...You act as if medicine is just something readily available.
[ Like, he hasn't looked for much, because...why would it be? He knows how to scrape for salves here and there, but he's done well enough to have to avoid anything that would require it thus far.
He looks at the fairly sterile, welcoming atmosphere of the cleric with something that can only be suspicion and doubt, an uneasiness settling in his gut. ]
...And quit that. [ The...the angry thing. ] It's not like it'd be anything new. I'm certain there are better things you could be wasting your irritation on.
no subject
[ The receptionist looks mildly alarmed when Trahearne says that as they approach, but Trahearne doesn't seem to care. You set him off, Adelis. Now he's going to fight for you. He's going to punch the doctor. ]
This man has been badly sunburnt and is in need of treatment.
[ He turns to Adelis to give a satisfied nod, and the receptionist gets up to lead him away. ]
no subject
I am more than capable of handling myself-
[ It comes out as a pinched hiss, but now that they're actually in here, he cuts himself off in favor of having his eyes dart about the fairly warm, welcoming waiting room as if looking for something dangerous. This is so...wrong-looking.
While not outwardly hostile, he still regards the woman warily, and only hesitates the slightest moment before deciding to follow after. Not, of course, without a parting word. ]
Do not do anything stupid.
no subject
And so, while his small walking partner is gone, Trahearne takes a seat in the waiting room. Have fun getting treated by a PERFECTLY NORMAL DOCTOR, Adelis. ]
no subject
He has never quite felt so out of place as he does here, and it shows- through all the questions and his quick but slightly stiff answers, and how his hackles nearly raise far too high at all the poking and prodding. The simple medical care back home consisted of the stitching of his wounds and relocating of his bones, and while quite a bit rougher, they were still far more easier to get used to than...this.
That, and he has no idea what the fuck his blood type is supposed to be. Why this is relevant, he has no clue.
After what feels like forever, Adelis is deemed well enough to go, albeit with a rattling off with a list of precautions and care. He already made the effort to not go venture out too much in the day, but apparently that wasn't good enough.
He cannot walk out of that examination room fast enough, hand clasped tight against the container they shoved in his hands. He's had enough of both incredibly personal questions and the sickening smell of antiseptic. ]
...Bloody hell.
[ At least he mutters it rather than say it out loud. ]
no subject
Instead, he hears the shuffling of feet and that brings him to set his magazine down and stand. Trahearne greets the other with a small smile. ]
Well? Did it go all right?
no subject
The last person who dealt with my health merely asked if I had imbibed anything before he bothered stitching me up, not douse me with a dozen worthless questions.
[ At the very least, the receptionist seems unbothered by his salty attitude. Likely not the first doctor-avoidant person she's dealt with this week.
True to himself, Adelis glares at the container clutched tight in his hands, paper label chock full of a bunch of ridiculous words he'd never even heard before, before waving it dismissively. ]
This had better work, for all that grief.
no subject
He glances at the container in Adelis's hands and gives a satisfied nod. ]
I should hope it does. If not, then I'll gladly accompany you back for a second visit to ask for something stronger.
[ Sorry, Trahearne feels like this is his responsibility now. ]
Otherwise, we're done here. Are you all set?
no subject
[ He also does not need Trahearne attempting to threaten another doctor and possibly embarrass him...again. He tucks the container away in his pouch, since it just barely fits, and finally straightens up. ]
Yes, I'm perfectly fine. [ Pride, aside. ] The sooner I get out of here, the better.
[ While he'll certainly be sharing the absolutely fucking weird existence of free healthcare to a certain somebody else, he can't say he's eager to return anytime soon. ]
no subject
Trahearne gives a firm nod as he pushes open the door to the clinic, allowing Adelis to exit before him. Freedom from the clinic granted. ]
I'm glad to hear it. [ As the door swings shut behind them, he pauses just in front of it and gives Adelis a sincere look. ]
But if you need anything else, I live in the forest--never hesitate to reach out. I'm always happy to help.
