summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

Congratulations, Achilles! Or should I say... Rider? [ nO, HE REMEMBERED. ] What do you suppose would happen if you got the opportunity to fight all of the contestants? Think you'd come out victorious?

[ Listen, he wanted to go a few rounds of fisticuffs, too. This is such a tragedy. ]

Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean to hide it. I really don't mind being referred by my true name, especially if it's someone I've matched fists with. [ not that he feels like childe should be too offended considering he had two names, too? or so he seems to say with the smirk on his lips. that said, he still puffs up with pride. ]

Of course. I would think it's an insult if they didn't at least try to come at me all at once, either. [ why are the fighty types always so... confident. ]

[ At the mention of something resembling an alias, Childe brushes it off. The name isn't as important as the intent, and he's plenty satisfied with the answer he receives. ]

Of course! I'd wind up victorious after everyone beat you down to size. [ Ego as blindingly huge as the sun, Childe laughs into a closed fist. ] But that's no fun, is it? You ought to make it a contest with real stakes. I wouldn't go for those weak of heart. I'd much rather aim for the strong.

[ Wow, his big head only gets bigger by the second. ]

In our rematch, who'd take the lead?

[ as always their exchange is a comfort to him somehow. the conceit exchanged between to the two of them as well as the absolute confidence is something he appreciates. any warrior worth anything should, at a minimum, have this level of trust in their own abilities, or so achilles considers. ]

I'd like to see that. But, I get what you mean. What hero doesn't want a fair fight. [ he nods at that.

But, that said— what do you think of the goddess or anyone else? [ aka, did childe scope out any other contenders? ]

Oh, that goddess? [ So casual. ] She's at her prime, isn't she? So I'd like to fight her the most! Still, there's plenty of competition to be found here...

[ His respect for Achilles is unmatched, so he'll give his question some serious thought. ]

I don't know about fighting any of the other contestants here, but Mira and He Xuan are worthy opponents. Mishka as well, although he hardly pulls his punches. [ The guy aims to kill. Maybe approach that battle with caution. ] And if you've seen anyone around carrying this— [ Pausing mid-monologue, Childe points to the Vision strapped to his belt. ] —I'd imagine they're good for a fight.

[ Just to cover his bases, since he's faced off a non-insignificant number of his castmates since arriving here. In a short while, he'll go off and fight Steinbeck, and maybe meet up Syrlya for a round of sparring, so there's plenty to do here. ]

Anyone catch your eye during the competition, Achilles?

[ very casual, but he's not one to complain, if just because he adopts a similar ideology. ] Think most goddesses stay in their prime.

I'll remember those names then. But, not pulling his punches is a good thing. Besides, don't you enjoy a good beating? [ he's kidding, but he seems to laugh a bit at that. he supposes anyone who specializes in any form or manner of combat was accustomed to their fair of injuries, after all.

but, he does take in mind the emblem attached to childe's belt. he seems thoughtful as he releases a quiet hum. ] Maybe the same people you pointed out. I saw a few people with those, after all. If I had to be honest, the red haired one, I met him before and wanted to fight him back then.

Mixing business with pleasure isn't so bad. [ What else can Childe long for but unmitigated combat and the thrill of the fight? ] It'd be nice if that was always the case. I'd like to believe that the strong only grow stronger over time.

[ Perhaps then he could fight the Harvest Goddess anytime, without fear of her power waning. Divine retribution is fine, reprisal is okay. ]

If you've met Diluc already, then it's all the easier for me to suggest him as your next opponent. [ A bit of acerbity enters his voice! ] Give it a try sometime! I think he'd welcome a beating at your hands.

[ Please wallop him, that guy is literally the worst. ]

That's usually the case, but... I suppose there could be exceptions. Don't let it hold you back, though. You might not have any other time to push past your limits. [ the unexpected was simply a part of life, after all. even with knowing his own fate, he couldn't say it didn't take him off-guard when it was actually happening. but, more importantly...

is this a personal grudge? regardless, achilles isn't entirely unfamiliar to the concept. he presumes everyone had their own hector... there's a furrow of his brows briefly, before it seems to dissolve with his next set of words. ] This is beginning to sound personal. You really mean that, or? Wouldn't want to steam 'em from you.

A little. We're always at each other's throats. [ But it's meaningless to go head-to-head with Diluc now. ] It's alright! That guy promised me a rematch. I know he'll keep his word, so rest easy. You can give it your all if you face him.

[ Since he'll be fighting Diluc to the death back over in Teyvat, that guy won't die before then. No need to rush that eventuality by antagonizing Diluc any further, either. It's a subject far too heavy to burden someone he considers his friend with, so instead Childe erupts in laughter, like good humor can play off everything. ]

I'll remember what you said. This might be the only opportunity I have.
