summer has arrived

As the last of the sakura blossoms fall away and the leaves on the trees grow into ever more vibrant greens, the familiar buzz of cicadas begins to echo all throughout the isle. Summer is quickly approaching and bringing brighter days and blazing temperatures along with it.

Summer also signals the start of the wine production season. Grapes growing on trellises are a common sight on Crescentview during the summer and a notice on the town memo board from the local barkeep encourages farmers to consider growing some varietal grapes of their own.

Temperatures are rising, so put on a comfortable pair of shorts and head to the Town Plaza to see what’s cooking! While you’re at it, take a look at the calendar for Summer 1st through 15th.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

hot! ...or not

Posted prominently at the top of the Memo Board is a cartoonishly-written advertisement for the first annual Hot or Not hosted by the Goddess herself. Contestants will take to the stage while the audience votes on whether they are as hot as the blazing sun or cooler than a dead fish. Leave your egos at the door! ICly, this event takes place on Summer 8th.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

local happenings

The Crescentview Times newspaper has chronicled the latest happenings around the island. A physical copy of the paper will arrive on your doorstep early in the morning on Summer 1st.

Recently, a group of townspeople have taken it upon themselves to check out the abandoned mine. They’ve made good headway on opening up the path in the hopes that would-be explorers will be able to take to the mines and find some of Crescentview’s fabled gems and minerals buried in its depths. They expect to be done by Summer 15th.

A strange “gurgling whisper” has been reported by some concerned townsfolk living in the mountains. The concerning sounds are coming from one of the lakes at the foot of the mountain. Supposedly, the voice is asking for offerings of... something. The townsfolk have yet to identify what exactly is being asked for.

A hurricane has been brewing off the southern coast of Crescentview. Meteorologists have yet to determine whether the hurricane will make landfall or not, so stay tuned for more updates.

Thanks! I needed that. ( Amber wipes some sweat off her brow and places her hands on her hips. ) I'd offer to cool you down but, sadly, I'm all fire. Shame I have no Cyro vision, it would really come in handy!

[ back on his belt does the waterskin. ]

Oh, that's not a bad idea, we might as well, while we're here.

[ he digs out his bingo card from his pocket, wiping the sweat from his brow with the opposite hand. ]

( she hums to herself while she reads it! )

Hum hmmm ... 🎵 Oh! I know! Campfire! The sun's gonna set soon. What if we make a cute lil' campfire here on the beach?

Oh, that sounds excellent.

[ he pockets his card again! ]

If you want to set up a space for us on the beach, I'll gather some firewood and kindling from the forest, and we can meet up.

Sounds great! Eeeee, I can't wait for this! It truly is a combination of our abilities, huh?

( plants and fire!! anyway, Amber leaves without a moment to lose in order to set this beach space up. HER PRIORITY SEEMS TO BE some ~*bevvies*~ so once she finds some unopened wine laying around that no one's using, she'll just take that! yoink! along with those two deck chairs, and ... ohhhh yeah. it's all coming together.

when Tighnari returns, he will notice that Amber is on her knees in the sand having just completed constructing a stone circle for the firewood to go. )

All taken care of! And, oh! I found some wine! ( she giggles. ) No glasses but that's not a problem, right? ( IT'S FINE SHE'S NOT DISEASED!!!! )

[ PLANTS AND FIRE.. you know, she's not wrong!!

nevertheless, tighnari's priorities are much less lackluster. they mainly involve, you know. wood. finding wood, lashing it together, hauling it up onto his back. but he has a pretty good amount of it by the time he makes it back to the beach, where amber has been hard at work! ]

You've been busy.

[ he says, smiling as he unloads the firewood from his back and unties the twine, before he's carefully building them up, and stacking the spares to the side. the kindling he pulls from one of his many pouches. ]

And no, that's not a problem, so long as you're not diseased, of course.

[ HE'S TEASING... or is he?? ]

Thanks! ( she chirps, before carrying some of the firewood and kindling into the stone circle.

who knows what Tighnari was expecting when it comes to Amber's lightning methods. she doesn't carefully grind two sticks together to start a flame. no. with a long piece of kindling in her hands, makes it combust into flames, before she plants it in the centre of the wood. DONE. )

There! No trouble at all. ( the woman sits herself down on one of the chairs, reclining happily. ) I'm so glad we agreed to do this, it's going to be so great! ( she leans down to pick up the wine bottle, laughing to herself at the 'no glasses' circumstance. this is going to be so classy. )

No diseases here, I assure you. ( and with that, she takes a good swig of wine before offering it to Tighnari. ) It's really good! Want some?

[ i mean, she has a pyro vision, he certainly hopes that she's not about to rub two sticks together!!

nevertheless, a fire is soon built, and tighnari eases himself into the opposite chair with a soft sigh. it feels good to sit, and now that evening has come, the beach isn't nearly so hot as it would otherwise be. he's comfortable, not sweltering, and that's quite nice. it helps that he's dressed appropriately as well, in a light cream embroidered tunic shirt with loose cotton pants. tighnari crosses his legs comfortably, and accepts the bottle. ]

I was only kidding. [ he chuckles, and takes a generous drink, then pushes the bottle into the sand between their chairs. ]

So, how have you been settling in?

( she trails off, for probably a bit longer than expected, while averting her gaze with a little blush. AMBER WHAT HAVE YOU DONE (we all know) )

[ tighnari just.. arches a brow. ]

[ they have in fact been snatched off to another world, after all, that she could be settling in flawlessly seems unlikely. tighnari sits back more comfortably in his chair. ]

About the same for me, I suppose. I'd rather be home, but I'm keeping myself busy.

( chug chug chug! Amber downs more of the wine. she kind of wishes she they had than one bottle, but, maybe there are more lying around ...

Yeah! I mean ... I'm having the opposite problem! Back at home, I was always busy. Active, out there protecting Mond, you know ... Outrider duties and all. And here it feels like I have just so much time I hardly even know what to do with!

[ tighnari doesn't quite chug, but he does take an enjoyable drink or two. ]

Oh, I don't disagree. If I don't force myself to keep busy, I have plenty of time as well, more than I'm ever used to having, but.. there are plenty of things to occupy my time. Tending the farm properly alone eats up a great deal of my time, let alone the other tasks.

Not that we need to be indulging this goddess's whims, of course..

And even if we don't have to indulge the Goddess ... I think I kinda like it? Apart from all the complications that form when you have crushes on a lot of people, but ... I hope it settles down for me soon. It's been crazy. ( the more she drinks, the more it becomes easier to chat about things she's usually so shy about. isn't alcohol wonderful? )

[ a very wry, very knowing smile, and he takes another drink of wine, before handing the bottle back again. ]

Well, so long as you've been safe and enjoying yourself, that's all that matters.

Safe? ( Amber takes another swig of wine once the bottle is back in her hands. she smiles at that familiar warmth from the intoxication filling her cheeks. )

[ that's right amber you're daughter #2 now. ]

( she grips the bottle of wine tighter in her hands, staring into the fire for a moment. thing is, she's already been hurt. the thought of Collei finding out definitely stabs at her heart in a way ... so many people care about her back home and yet, what's becoming of her in this place? erratic crushes, sleeping with a member of the fatui unknowingly, being ignored by the guy she likes all month ... it was no wonder that she broke down crying at the date auction while Ori held her.

without a sound, she takes another sip of wine, and then sighs. )

... Might be a little late for that. ( the woman fidgets with the bottle in her hands. ) I've had a bit of pain here but, it's fine. I'll get over it! I'm great at picking myself up off the ground. ( Amber.............. )

[ oh dear..

tighnari is a sharp, perceptive thing, so if amber thinks she can get away with brushing it off easily, she has another thing coming. granted, he certainly won't pry, but.. he'll make his presence known. ]

I see. Well, it doesn't matter how great someone is at getting onto their feet again when they keep falling over and over. Eventually it catches up with you.

[ tighnari's gaze settles on her face, his hands folding across his lap. ]

Uh-huh ... ( that certainly resonates with her, even though she wishes it hadn't. charging forward has always helped in the past, why is it different here? )

Maybe it already did catch up to me. I started crying in the middle of the dating auction out of pure overwhelm and stress over things that have happened to me recently, but fortunately Ori was there to comfort me ... I've never had a public show of emotions like that before. I'm usually so well kept together ... I'm great at being strong for other people, but lately when it comes to myself, I ...

( she sighs. )

I can't force my way through it sometimes, I'm starting to learn.

[ tighnari takes a deep breath, and stretches his feet out toward the fire. ]

.. no, you can't, and trying to do so would be unhealthy, and ultimately detrimental both to yourself and those around you. Living to be strong for others without saving some strength for yourself is simply unsustainable.

[ I'M SORRY HE'S SO CLINICAL ABOUT THIS, AMBER.. THIS IS JUST HOW HE IS. ]

If the trunk of a tree withers away, all of its branches will fall with it. You have to take care of yourself properly if you're to take care of others.

( honestly? Amber appreciates this sort of blunt outlook to life. it really grounds her! she appreciates him listening. )

You're so right. ( she rests her head on her chin. ) Sorry for bringing the mood down! I'm just hoping everything I'm dealing with resolves itself soon. There's a guy I like and he's been avoiding me all month ... I have no idea why.

It kind of feels like everyone around me is having such an easy time doing the whole "relationship" thing but, just like everything else in my life, I'm making a huge mess. ( sigh. ) I keep thinking I'm not cut out for this ...

[ he shakes his head. ]

I wouldn't say that everyone is having an easy time, honestly. It probably just looks like that from the outside. [ except don't look at cynonari.. but honestly amber so many of them are SUCH A MESS. ] Relationships are difficult enough on their own, especially when they're being forced on us. I wouldn't beat yourself up over it.

( her expression softens, showing evidently that his words are calming her. )

Thanks, Tighnari ... it's a little reassuring, I'll admit, but I can't help but feel bad for everyone else who is struggling too. ( Amber sighs, and gazes up at the stars. )

I'm gonna try believe that things will get better. ( optimism is her strength, after all. ) So, uh, how are things going for you? Better than me?

Well, that's all right, too. It just means you're a compassionate person. It doesn't mean your experiences are any lesser than theirs, however.
