[ On a very hot day in Summer 12, every house in Crescentview will receive an invitation to Ellis's place along with a map with directions tailored to each house. Better tell your housemate about it. Ellis has invited everyone to come over to his place. There will be an insanely long slip n slide that feels ridiculously slippery. In fact, it is not powered by water. It's powered by water-based lube. But don't worry, Fluffy the white adult samoyed dog can hose you down to wash it all off if desired. He will also accept pets and attention from those who feel awkward at parties. The dog will also go around once in a while to spray random people with the hose.
Anyway, there's also free food laid out on the table! From Lucia's Cozy Kitchen (and advertised as such), there are fried chicken, fried noodles, and spinach wraps. From Diluc's DΓ€mmerung Bar & Winery, there will be this season's specialty: strawberry wine! There are many other food as well such as dried apple chips, crispy fruit salad, generic snacks... there's also soda and water for the people who don't want to drink wine.
The main attractions in the party seem to be the extremely long slip n slides--multiples of them actually--and there is a specifically longer slip n slide, but it's used as a game. There's a plastic stick at the end that you must get to and bring back without falling even once. Yes, your feet must be on the slip n slide. Beware, this one is even more slippery than the others. There is... an assortment of prizes to win. What are the prizes? Win one and find out.
Other than that, Ellis is also selling bottles of water-based lube. He knows some of y'all need these.

[ Those things are now smaller in number than they ever have been, thanks to a majority of that originally being due to his plot to enact vengeance being fulfilled. Anything now is simply a matter of personal convenience, and can be potentially counted on one hand.
As for discussing these things with Steinbeck...well, despite their differing dispositions, he's acknowledged their similarities. ]
I suppose I have. In my childhood, it's inevitable. In a place like this, it's happened a couple of times. There's plenty of food to choose from, and as you can see, many are generous.

Looking at Steinbeck now, he thinks there's evidence of that. It's funny, before he came here, he'd never have considered such things so easily, or even thought to give them the time of day. After all, when he was younger, he had a fiancΓ©. But, never had the opportunity to go on something he could call a 'date' with her.
Anyway, he sees the twinkling, though the question is more surprising than anything. For a moment, he isn't sure how to respond, even if he eventually does. ]

Jokes aside, there are infinitely worse ways to spend his time, and he has been out at least one "official" date since he has arrived. As Steinbeck as stated, it is not something he has to take seriously either. Not that he is the type of man who feels he can be easily pressured into what he doesn't want to do. If he had no desire to, he would have simply declined. ]
We can simply explore, see where that takes us. Then, we'll eat at the restaurant afterwards?

Maybe we will. As one-dimensional this island iniatially seems to be, it appears that there can be new things to discover about it.
