The unrelenting summer heat has begun to let up as of late and those who make a habit of reading the news will know why: a hurricane is set to make landfall on Summer 16th. Spread the word to your neighbors and keep your loved ones and animals indoors. Expect that there may be some damage to your property, field and trees!

Fortunately, the hurricane brings with it only moderate wind and rain. Once the storm subsides and the whipping winds calm, you’ll be handed a letter by one of the Goddess’ many sprightly fairies who look quite a bit healthier and happier than they used to. Some of them look like they’ve been hitting the gym while others have a nice set of shiny new acrylic nails on their fingertips. Good for them.

Anyway, the letter details an upcoming event hosted by the Goddess: the first annual date auction. She has considerately included a form with her letter inviting islanders to volunteer as dates to be auctioned away while others have been voluntold. Oof. With the promise of a fabulous and extravagant vacation for those participating, the reward may very well be worth the price of entry.

With more news to announce, she requests that everyone meet up in the Town Plaza. The task board hasn’t seen any mid-season additions, but the upcoming date auction and the recently opened mines promise to keep islanders well occupied through the rest of the season.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

It’s time to d-d-d-date auction! Participation is highly encouraged by both the Goddess and her pushy little helpers. Every islander received a form delivered to them by said pushy fairies that contains the following application:

Describe yourself in three sentences or less:
List three of your best and worst qualities:
If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be and why?
Describe your ideal romantic partner:
Why should the auction attendees bid on you?

...You may have noticed that the form does not include a section for your name. That’s because this is a blind auction in which bidders must place their bids based only on the information provided in their application. Love is blind, as they say!

While some people may eagerly volunteer themselves to be auctioned away, those who are less bold may have been signed up to participate by a friend, neighbor, or the Goddess herself. In so many words, if you’d like to sign your character up but don’t believe they’d willingly volunteer to be auctioned, worry not! You may use the Goddess (or another character) as your convenient excuse so sign them up anyway.

Submit your applications here by the 20th at 12pm EST. The date auction will go live on the 21st at 12pm EST.

As mentioned in the overview, all auctioned off parties and their winning bidders will win an all expenses paid trip... somewhere. The Goddess’ lips are sealed as to the destination, but you get the feeling this trip will be quite a bit more than you bargained for.

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

to the mines!

The once abandoned mines have been reopened and are now accessible to any brave islanders who wish to explore their depths! But be warned: doing so may come at a cost. Will you take the risk and come out on top with rare and otherworldly treasures, or will you trip and sprain your ankle after stumbling over a small rock? Only one way to find out!

OOCly, the mines can be explored once per week and exploration is undertaken in a cyoa-style thread. The mines are a permanent feature and can be accessed now until the end of the game. Have fun!

[ Ellis wanted to see what the mines were about once he saw it in the newspaper, and now that they get to finally go, Ellis is very excited. It means he dragged Gaku along because why not? That's why they're at the entrance and Ellis makes headway with a small backpack just in case with some things inside.

Anyway, he bravely follows the minecart tracks and tries to look around to see if there's anything shiny or odd-colored he can find. ]

[ Gaku is right behind, a little bit nervous about traversing somewhere as dangerous as mines, but Ellis wanted to go so here he is. He has his own backpack with a few supplies and a flashlight for use should they come upon a dark area.

He also is paying special attention to any sounds around them, since Ellis can't do that himself. ]

[Nothing shiny or eye-catching yet! Finding gems and minerals won't be that easy, but if they continue down the path ahead, it will bring them down into the first floor of the mines. What do, boys? It's looking pretty dark in there...]

[ Once Ellis gets to the first floor, he brings out a flashlight. It's small, but it works. He flashes it everywhere because he wants to see everything. This guy is just way too excited right now. Being in the mines and already on the first floor? Adrenaline-inducing.

Unfortunately for Gaku, Ellis will run ahead. ]

[ Nope, he's not letting that happen! Gaku runs up behind him, reaching out to take Ellis by the arm. No running in dark places.

Speaking of dark, he turns on his flashlight and shines it around so they can get a real look at their surroundings. ]

[Ellis is lucky Gaku didn't allow him to run ahead. The mine shaft's ceiling lightly trembles, a sharp chunk of rock crashing into the ground right in front of Ellis. If Gaku hasn't stopped him, it might have landed on his head and injured him.

The first floor of the mines is quiet, the sound of water dripping somewhere just beyond, and there appear to be some thin ore deposits on the walls of the mine. The deposits shine with an eerie green glow under the beams of the flashlight.]

[ Ellis was about to whine at Gaku to let him go ahead, but that rock will solidly convince Gaku to not even let his hand go, is what he thinks. So he doesn't bother and... oh. He ignores the rock completely and tugs Gaku's like an excited dog on a leash. There's something shiny in the walls!! He points to it excitedly.

And gets out a shovel. ]

[ Ellis, he swears to the Goddess—

But he follows along, now fully convinced that he shouldn't let go of Ellis. He shines his flashlight around the area of the wall while Ellis gets out the shovel. He's not going to dig, instead looking around to see if he can figure out where that water is dripping from. Does it sound like it's in a room beyond this one? ]

[The walls are judging Ellis for approaching them with a shovel, but it's whatever, man. Live your life. Gaku will find that the source of the dripping isn't coming from this room. It may be coming from the second floor or even further down.]

[ He cares not for the walls of a basement dweller.

Ellis hits the wall with the shovel to try and extract the gem with the effectiveness of 8 out of 20. ]

[ At some point, Gaku will tap Ellis on the shoulder. ]

There's something dripping. Probably a source of water further down.

[ He'll watch to see just how successful Ellis is at extracting gems, though. And what are these gems anyway? Gaku is no expert, but he can at least identify more common things like emeralds or rubies. ]

[A shovel is a poor choice of tool for extracting ore, but it's not completely useless. His efforts earn him a few flecks of emerald. Those won't sell for much and they aren't big enough to be incorporated into a piece of jewelry, but hey! That's what he gets for bringing a shovel to a pickaxe fight.]

[ He will make sure to invest in a pickaxe next time. Ellis puts the few flecks of emerald inside his bag and turns to Gaku. Water? Ellis holds the flashlight correctly in his hand again, so Gaku is free to lead him further down. ]

[ He's taking the lead now, holding tightly to Ellis' hand as they make their way down further. As they walk, Gaku is keeping an ear out for any unusual sounds—rocks breaking, foundation crumbling, even more water. He also makes sure the ground underneath them feels stable too.

He's seen enough horror movies about mines. ]

[Invest in a pair of functional eyes, Ellis. There are pickaxes sitting at the entrance of the mines, but it's too late to turn back and grab one. If he tries, the cool breeze emanating from the depths of the mine will whip up and blow them both out, refusing to allow them back in.

As they enter the second floor, Gaku will be able to hear something else beyond the dripping: a tiny voice.]

Ellis continues to follow Gaku and... wait, he can't sign if one hand is holding the flashlight (handle of shovel around his wrist) and the other is holding Gaku's hand.

Hm. ]

[ Gaku stops, letting go of Ellis' hand so he can put his arm out in front of him instead. What kind of weird attempt at scaring is this?

At least Ellis' dilemma has been solved. ]

Who's there? Show yourself.

Ooga booga!

[That little voice is as underwhelming as before and it doesn't get any louder the closer Gaku gets to it, but if he looks down, he'll see... one of the Goddess' little fairies hopping about on an oddly placed boulder attempting to scare him away. The fairy has on a nice pair of designer heels with red bottoms and a sleek leather purse large enough to fit a single coin in. Seems the fairies are doing well for themselves these days.]

[ Oh, he remembers those little fairies. He bends over to cup it inside his hands after tucking the flashlight between his head and shoulder. ]

[ Gaku shines his flashlight on the boulder, eyeing it without touching it. Can he see anything off about it?

But then he looks at the fairy. ]

What brand of heels are you wearing?

[The fairy doesn't seem to appreciate being picked up, complaining loudly about how men these days are so very rude... but then she's distracted by Gaku's question, forgetting all about the rock she was trying to scare them away from. There's nothing off about the rock aside from the fact that it appears to be sitting at an angle rather than flat on the ground.]

Finally, someone with good taste! These are the latest Fairey and Burke pumps! Aren't they fine?

[She does a little model turn in Ellis' hand.]

[ Unfortunately, the fairy's mouth is too small for him to read, so he just continues to hold her there with his palms wide open.

...

Seeing as to how Gaku was eyeing the rock earlier, he passes the fairy off to Gaku's hand and tries to see if he can move the rock himself. ]

[ Gaku keeps an eye on Ellis just in case he needs to pull him out of the way of something. ]

I like them a lot. This is the first time I've seen anything branded here.

[ Even though it's uh... a different kind of brand. ]

So, what are you doing down here?

[The rock isn't difficult to move, no more than twenty pounds in weight. Beneath it, Ellis will find a bracelet made of glass beads, some of which are letters. It feels strange, almost electric in his hand, but not painfully so.

Anyway, back to the fairy. She's making eyes at Gaku, but with Ellis distracted, she doesn't have any qualms with batting her long, mascara'd eyelashes at a taken man.]

Oh, me? I'm guarding my special treasure! It's right there under that rock. The Goddess will have me drawn and quartered if I don't keep it safe, so I haven't left the mine in days! My feet are starting to hurt...

[ Ellis just grabs it without thought and puts the rock back where it was. It feels strange, but it doesn't really hurt, so he can keep holding it. He attempts to stabilize whatever property that's making it feel electric.

He's not making any outrageous movements, so maybe the fairy won't notice? ]
