The unrelenting summer heat has begun to let up as of late and those who make a habit of reading the news will know why: a hurricane is set to make landfall on Summer 16th. Spread the word to your neighbors and keep your loved ones and animals indoors. Expect that there may be some damage to your property, field and trees!

Fortunately, the hurricane brings with it only moderate wind and rain. Once the storm subsides and the whipping winds calm, you’ll be handed a letter by one of the Goddess’ many sprightly fairies who look quite a bit healthier and happier than they used to. Some of them look like they’ve been hitting the gym while others have a nice set of shiny new acrylic nails on their fingertips. Good for them.

Anyway, the letter details an upcoming event hosted by the Goddess: the first annual date auction. She has considerately included a form with her letter inviting islanders to volunteer as dates to be auctioned away while others have been voluntold. Oof. With the promise of a fabulous and extravagant vacation for those participating, the reward may very well be worth the price of entry.

With more news to announce, she requests that everyone meet up in the Town Plaza. The task board hasn’t seen any mid-season additions, but the upcoming date auction and the recently opened mines promise to keep islanders well occupied through the rest of the season.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

It’s time to d-d-d-date auction! Participation is highly encouraged by both the Goddess and her pushy little helpers. Every islander received a form delivered to them by said pushy fairies that contains the following application:

Describe yourself in three sentences or less:
List three of your best and worst qualities:
If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be and why?
Describe your ideal romantic partner:
Why should the auction attendees bid on you?

...You may have noticed that the form does not include a section for your name. That’s because this is a blind auction in which bidders must place their bids based only on the information provided in their application. Love is blind, as they say!

While some people may eagerly volunteer themselves to be auctioned away, those who are less bold may have been signed up to participate by a friend, neighbor, or the Goddess herself. In so many words, if you’d like to sign your character up but don’t believe they’d willingly volunteer to be auctioned, worry not! You may use the Goddess (or another character) as your convenient excuse so sign them up anyway.

Submit your applications here by the 20th at 12pm EST. The date auction will go live on the 21st at 12pm EST.

As mentioned in the overview, all auctioned off parties and their winning bidders will win an all expenses paid trip... somewhere. The Goddess’ lips are sealed as to the destination, but you get the feeling this trip will be quite a bit more than you bargained for.

task board

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

to the mines!

The once abandoned mines have been reopened and are now accessible to any brave islanders who wish to explore their depths! But be warned: doing so may come at a cost. Will you take the risk and come out on top with rare and otherworldly treasures, or will you trip and sprain your ankle after stumbling over a small rock? Only one way to find out!

OOCly, the mines can be explored once per week and exploration is undertaken in a cyoa-style thread. The mines are a permanent feature and can be accessed now until the end of the game. Have fun!

[ Well, Gaku tried. He ends up getting Ellis's neck in which he freezes up very much and obviously tense. ]

[ Oops!

He knows what Ellis’ neck feels like against his lips by now, so he’s well aware of where he’s kissed him when it happens. That, and the way Ellis tenses up. ]

…

[ Now that he has a better idea of where Ellis’ head is, he reaches out and ruffles his hair. That totally doesn’t send mixed signals, right? ]

[ It absolutely sends him mixed signals, but Ellis will assume that he can't see that well in the dark. Ellis can't either. He quietly breathes out when he feels Gaku's hand ruffling his hair, feeling a little embarrassed. He'll just keep petting Haru here. He doesn't know what to do. ]

[ Haru knows exactly what to do, jumping up into Ellis' lap and laying against him as she purrs.

Gaku, meanwhile, stumbles around until he can find the flashlights he saw earlier near the front door. Good thing they were already out instead of stuck behind a drawer! He turns one of them on, the flight flickering to life as he immediately points it around the room to see if Ellis is still sitting. ]

[ Ellis's eyes have gotten used to the darkness, so when Gaku flashes the light at his location, he closes his eyes and shields them with his arm. Too bright... ]

[ Gaku walks back over, shining it away from Ellis, and sets it on the table so that the room can be slightly illuminated. ]

Can you read my lips like this?

[ Ellis makes a so-so gesture with his hand. Well, that's better than nothing. But now that he can see, he takes the empty food plates to put them in the kitchen sink. ]

[ While he does that, Gaku straightens up the couch and chairs a little bit before sitting back down.

He has no idea what to do now that the power is out... ]

[ After cleaning the plates (the water is thankfully still working), he returns to the living room and goes to sit on the couch next to Gaku. The house is still quiet and the animals upstairs are behaving or sleeping. Either way, they don't cause trouble.

But what might be more notable is how Ellis seems to slot himself into Gaku's side very closely. ]

[ It sure is noticeable. Enough so that Gaku raises his eyebrows, but he lifts his arm up to put it around Ellis’ shoulders so he can rest against him more comfortably. ]

[ He snuggles closer to Gaku as a result and stretches his arm ahead of himself to sign: ]

"Can you see?"

[ He squeezes Ellis' shoulders a bit before giving him a thumbs up. He sure can. ]

[ He's glad. Ellis stays like that for a while, but the flashlight starts flickering. Ellis hasn't changed the batteries for a long time. ]

"There's a candle in a plastic bin in my room and a box of matches on the shelf. Could you get it?"

[ Gaku signs an agreement, pressing a kiss to the side of Ellis' head before taking the flashlight and going into his room. It takes him a few minutes, but he eventually comes back with a candle and the box of matches.

After setting the flashlight down, he lights one of the matches and then lights the candle. ]

"How's that?"

[ Ellis nods. Hope Gaku didn't mind seeing all those... other things. Half of that list was inside the plastic bin (it's big), but at least everything was neatly organized. The smell doesn't really come out so readily, but after 30 minutes, the living room will smell faintly of blood, stale air, and smoke.

Ellis notices it and... well, he doesn't seem to react much. ]

[ It sure was a journey for him! The candle is nice to have, providing just a little bit of light for them both and giving him a chance to turn off the flashlight.

...Until that smell starts to waft through the air and Gaku coughs, covering his nose and mouth so that he doesn't start outright gagging.

There's no way that it isn't the candle, and so he works up the courage to get close enough to blow it out. Unfortunately, that makes the smell stronger for a couple of minutes, which does actually make him gag. ]

[ Ellis doesn't hear Gaku gag, but he's seen and felt the vibrations when he coughed, so he when he feels Gaku sit back on the couch, he reaches out to gently rub his back. It's just dark in here now, and the smell reminds him of where he was made. He closes his eyes and resumes slotting himself next to Gaku's side.

But then he feels around for Gaku's arm, which inevitably leads to his hand. After he stops rubbing Gaku's back, he starts writing on Gaku's palm with his fingertip. Hopefully Gaku can tell that he's writing. ]

Candle label home

[ The combination of blood and smoke is not one that he's familiar with in any respect, and so it takes him a moment to fully calm down, although the way Ellis rubs his back certainly helps. It's a gesture he didn't expect from Ellis (even though they're officially dating), and so his heart feels warm despite the situation. He closes his eyes, deciphering the words on his hand.

Hm. The candle that smells like home, huh.

Gaku shifts, feeling around for the flashlight. Sorry if he touches your thigh once or twice, Ellis! But he eventually finds it and it flickers on. ]

That's what it smelled like where you came from?

[ Ellis is glad for the flashlight, but he knows it won't last for too long. The moment he had in the darkness was a little sombering, to say the least, so the light, as bright as it can get with a dying power source, is plenty welcome.

He nods in response to the question. ]

"It was already very chaotic when I came into the story."

[ He doesn't want to make Ellis work more in this dim light, so... ]

"Want to talk about it?"

[ Well. Alright. The smell already put him in that mood anyway, so he might as well get it out while it feels fresh in his mind. ]

"It was chaotic. Personal battles raged on. Characters were getting killed off so quickly, even if it meant their makers would resurrect them for the next game they'd play with them. I was mostly told to stay in a dorm room on campus, but I snuck out sometimes. That's where I saw all that."

[ He reaches out, brushing his fingers through Ellis' hair before withdrawing his hand so he can respond. ]

"Did you ever get caught up in it?"

[ Ellis shakes his head no. ]

"Not really. I'm not a fighter. I was mainly a one-use plot device, but it wasn't my time yet. But I did meet one of the other characters there. Their name was Ten."

[ He pauses. Number names are only natural to him and him only. ]

"Most characters were named after numbers. I was Fifty."

[ oh good now he'll know :)

Gaku furrows his brows, although his full expression is difficult to make out in the dim light. ]

"You were the fiftieth created?"

[ That would make sense, right? ]

"What was Ten like?"

[ Ellis shakes his head no again. ]

"We were primarily named after numbers based on our character or purpose of being created. I was made as a plot device to change the standings between the players—50 means new beginnings and personal freedom."

[ If Gaku remembers why the number ten made Ellis go (unsure) at the time, he might be getting a feeling that it probably won't be a happy mention. ]

"They were almost the first friend I ever had."
