jan mid-month event.
midsummer storms
The unrelenting summer heat has begun to let up as of late and those who make a habit of reading the news will know why: a hurricane is set to make landfall on Summer 16th. Spread the word to your neighbors and keep your loved ones and animals indoors. Expect that there may be some damage to your property, field and trees!
Fortunately, the hurricane brings with it only moderate wind and rain. Once the storm subsides and the whipping winds calm, you’ll be handed a letter by one of the Goddess’ many sprightly fairies who look quite a bit healthier and happier than they used to. Some of them look like they’ve been hitting the gym while others have a nice set of shiny new acrylic nails on their fingertips. Good for them.
Anyway, the letter details an upcoming event hosted by the Goddess: the first annual date auction. She has considerately included a form with her letter inviting islanders to volunteer as dates to be auctioned away while others have been voluntold. Oof. With the promise of a fabulous and extravagant vacation for those participating, the reward may very well be worth the price of entry.
With more news to announce, she requests that everyone meet up in the Town Plaza. The task board hasn’t seen any mid-season additions, but the upcoming date auction and the recently opened mines promise to keep islanders well occupied through the rest of the season.
This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.
and... sold! first annual date auction
It’s time to d-d-d-date auction! Participation is highly encouraged by both the Goddess and her pushy little helpers. Every islander received a form delivered to them by said pushy fairies that contains the following application:
Describe yourself in three sentences or less:
List three of your best and worst qualities:
If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be and why?
Describe your ideal romantic partner:
Why should the auction attendees bid on you?
...You may have noticed that the form does not include a section for your name. That’s because this is a blind auction in which bidders must place their bids based only on the information provided in their application. Love is blind, as they say!
While some people may eagerly volunteer themselves to be auctioned away, those who are less bold may have been signed up to participate by a friend, neighbor, or the Goddess herself. In so many words, if you’d like to sign your character up but don’t believe they’d willingly volunteer to be auctioned, worry not! You may use the Goddess (or another character) as your convenient excuse so sign them up anyway.
As mentioned in the overview, all auctioned off parties and their winning bidders will win an all expenses paid trip... somewhere. The Goddess’ lips are sealed as to the destination, but you get the feeling this trip will be quite a bit more than you bargained for.
task board
The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.
Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.
Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.
This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.
Find someone who...
1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white
Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.
Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.
Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:
1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.
2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.
3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.
Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.
1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.
2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.
to the mines!
The once abandoned mines have been reopened and are now accessible to any brave islanders who wish to explore their depths! But be warned: doing so may come at a cost. Will you take the risk and come out on top with rare and otherworldly treasures, or will you trip and sprain your ankle after stumbling over a small rock? Only one way to find out!
OOCly, the mines can be explored once per week and exploration is undertaken in a cyoa-style thread. The mines are a permanent feature and can be accessed now until the end of the game. Have fun!

But wow. That honestly took a lot of work. It feels like he ran a marathon on a hot summer day. He isn't showing any outward struggle, thankfully. Major curses are some real big things. Ellis is determined to build stamina for this. ]
I think you should enjoy your life as much as you can while you're here. Places like these don't come up so frequently, after all.
no subject
I can't disagree with that. ( This place and Ostoya are, literally in some ways, like night and day. ) I was uncertain as to how I felt about these bingo sheets well, at first, but... they have been facilitators of some fun time.
You know, if we are to spend time with each other regardless, might you be interested in helping me with some of mine? I have some fairly mundane tasks I've yet to get to.
no subject
I can do one per day. They're usually fun to do with other people anyway.
no subject
( yayyyy
He considers his card for a second, then decides to just fish it out and offer it to Ellis to take a pick for tonight or another day - it makes no difference to him. From his demeanor, he really doesn't care if Ellis sees the ones he's completed, either. )
They're all about the same to me, really. Tell me if there are any that particularly appeal to you.
( Besides the smut ones, he figures, since they've already spoken on that topic. )
no subject
Anyway, he gets up after seeing the card to give him a hug. He likes physical affection regardless of his status, so this is fine. ]
no subject
This one actually gives Mishka pause, and for a second he isn't sure how to react. Of course he knows what a hug is, but it's just not a very common form of affection in Ostoya. Strangely, more challenging to wrap his head around than casual intercourse.
But he does get it, so after a stiff moment he raises his arms and wraps his arms around Ellis to complete the hug, in some semblance of normalcy. He can larp as a regular dude with effort.
He won't bother say anything until they part, since, obviously. )
This one is an interesting one. Still... ( He'll check his bingo card to check the stamp on it. Neat. ) It's appreciated. Perhaps I'll exchange this for some more mangoes.
no subject
What did you think about the hug? You seemed hesitant.
no subject
... We don't hug, really, where I'm from. I can't recall the last time I was embraced with the intent of affection.
( Like, being physically grappled because someone is trying to kill him - he gets. Someone (likely soon to be dead, really) pulling him close for a misguided kiss - sure. But just a hug? Weird. Moreso given his upbringing. )
Well, perhaps parents do it to their children in some places? ( A guess. He hasn't stalked parents in all territories to know for sure. ) I presume it's more common whence you came?
no subject
Meanwhile, Ellis is just intensely sweating internally. Common where he came from? Well. Well. It's not as fucked up as Ostoya (probably), but he's. Hm.
Ellis just nods. That's the simple answer, and it's technically true anyway. ]
I like physical affection, so I guess it would be more common where I come from.
no subject
But, hmmmm. Hmmm. Raises eyebrow? )
You guess it would be? You don't know?
no subject
Ellis: I guess he's on lease
Ellis wonders if he should say it... well, honesty has been his thing when it came to conveying things with words. ]
I existed for maybe a month or two, so I understandably didn't know too much.
no subject
Oh? What are you, then? I can't imagine you're human.
no subject
Considering the developments that Ellis had so far, he has less problems about admitting things—also because this cast is a freakshow full of freaks, so what's one more? ]
A fictional character.
no subject
Well. If Ellis hadn't had his attention before, admitting to being freshly existed, he certainly has it now. )
... Such as... a figment made manifest by a spell?
( This is certainly out of his wheelhouse! But if you slap "because of magic" onto it, he can parse it. It's a handy explanation, given it's so utterly rare, it can be blamed for being capable of most anything.
Really, he's just trying to parse the whole "fictional" bit and "currently existing here with you" bit, assuming Ellis is being honest. )
no subject
A bonafide fictional character from a story who is self aware. ]
no subject
You know what, if the Goddess (question mark) can take people from different planes of reality, why not fictional characters from books? He may not grasp the nuance of how it functions, but the idea is the same.
He seems to settle on his interpretation. )
Well, I can confidently say you're the first of your kind I've met.
( Which certainly makes him interesting and new. )
Did you always know you were fictional, or was that something you realized only upon coming here?
no subject
Useless characters get the void bin.
no subject
... The void? And what is that like?
no subject
[ nbd. ]
no subject
... Well, it seems we have something in common. I'd been in a similar place just before my coming, here. The same in principle, though slightly shifted in nuance.
no subject
[ hey buddy what got you in jail ]
no subject
In a sense. There is one person the people in my region ought never disobey; we exist to serve and love Him, as His children... or so it is believed. You could say I had a moment of rebellion.
( He has mixed feelings about all this, but religious trauma and family trauma is just stuff that's hard to untangle and unpack, even at his age— especially in a land that doesn't believe in wellness. )
What made you "useless," to be sent to your void?
no subject
My maker was a third party--uninvited to take part in the story. My maker created me to sabotage one of the writers, the creators, inside the story. They're known to be some sort of gods that look over every single world that exists. One of them kicked me out of the story and I landed myself in the void limbo.
[ Phew. It feels easier to convey this sort of thing now. Ellis is glad. ]
no subject
That's a little cruel, isn't it? It doesn't seem you asked to be made for the purpose you were. But I suppose all entities that wear the mantle of God are indifferent to their lessers.
( He does not say this bitterly, only frankly. )
The void I knew was as you described, if with one addition: a pervasive, unceasing gravity, crushing the mind and heart. ( Despair, in the words of someone who understands emotions; not Mishka, surely. ) It felt as if I'd existed there longer than I'd lived my years on the soil of the earth.
This place is nicer, I think, in comparison. It is better that you're here. Unless you miss your story, before you'd been apprehended?
no subject
[ Existential crisis was big. He hated it, thanks. ]
Thinking about it was a waste of time, since I would never be allowed to go there again. Crescentview is much peaceful in comparison and I like it a lot better here.
