jan mid-month event.
midsummer storms
The unrelenting summer heat has begun to let up as of late and those who make a habit of reading the news will know why: a hurricane is set to make landfall on Summer 16th. Spread the word to your neighbors and keep your loved ones and animals indoors. Expect that there may be some damage to your property, field and trees!
Fortunately, the hurricane brings with it only moderate wind and rain. Once the storm subsides and the whipping winds calm, you’ll be handed a letter by one of the Goddess’ many sprightly fairies who look quite a bit healthier and happier than they used to. Some of them look like they’ve been hitting the gym while others have a nice set of shiny new acrylic nails on their fingertips. Good for them.
Anyway, the letter details an upcoming event hosted by the Goddess: the first annual date auction. She has considerately included a form with her letter inviting islanders to volunteer as dates to be auctioned away while others have been voluntold. Oof. With the promise of a fabulous and extravagant vacation for those participating, the reward may very well be worth the price of entry.
With more news to announce, she requests that everyone meet up in the Town Plaza. The task board hasn’t seen any mid-season additions, but the upcoming date auction and the recently opened mines promise to keep islanders well occupied through the rest of the season.
This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.
and... sold! first annual date auction
It’s time to d-d-d-date auction! Participation is highly encouraged by both the Goddess and her pushy little helpers. Every islander received a form delivered to them by said pushy fairies that contains the following application:
Describe yourself in three sentences or less:
List three of your best and worst qualities:
If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be and why?
Describe your ideal romantic partner:
Why should the auction attendees bid on you?
...You may have noticed that the form does not include a section for your name. That’s because this is a blind auction in which bidders must place their bids based only on the information provided in their application. Love is blind, as they say!
While some people may eagerly volunteer themselves to be auctioned away, those who are less bold may have been signed up to participate by a friend, neighbor, or the Goddess herself. In so many words, if you’d like to sign your character up but don’t believe they’d willingly volunteer to be auctioned, worry not! You may use the Goddess (or another character) as your convenient excuse so sign them up anyway.
As mentioned in the overview, all auctioned off parties and their winning bidders will win an all expenses paid trip... somewhere. The Goddess’ lips are sealed as to the destination, but you get the feeling this trip will be quite a bit more than you bargained for.
task board
The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.
Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.
Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.
This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.
Find someone who...
1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white
Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.
Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.
Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:
1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.
2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.
3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.
Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.
1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.
2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.
to the mines!
The once abandoned mines have been reopened and are now accessible to any brave islanders who wish to explore their depths! But be warned: doing so may come at a cost. Will you take the risk and come out on top with rare and otherworldly treasures, or will you trip and sprain your ankle after stumbling over a small rock? Only one way to find out!
OOCly, the mines can be explored once per week and exploration is undertaken in a cyoa-style thread. The mines are a permanent feature and can be accessed now until the end of the game. Have fun!

Even back then, I wondered... how you came to attain this power. I should have known. Nothing comes without a price. Of course it cost you dearly.
[ And there's the frustration, caustic and gouging like it's been cut out of him. Tartaglia wears his fury so badly, but he doesn't give much of a damn how he looks now, minding company with this emotion. Strange how his voice sounds, pitching so oddly, like he's been struck full across the face and now he's trying to talk around all of the hurt welling up inside of him. ]
Losing one's humanity... what a farce you asked me. You're no longer alive.
[ Maybe that's the worst thing, more than his carelessness or omissions of truth from a dead man, but the horrible feeling that it's all gone awry. He has plenty secrets of his own, but this is the one that sets his blood to boiling. ]
Why didn't you say anything?
no subject
And why is it exactly his fault if he didn't? That isn't to say he didn't plan on telling Tartaglia. Of course, there is a part of him does say that he should've done so sooner, if he had known the man would have been in his body. Though even then even with that not being the case...
Still by all accounts, unintentional all the same. ]
During the midst of all that you believe shouting to you that I was dead happened to be on my mind? And even before that...I don't always go around simply stating that I am a ghost king in every conversation.
[ Usually, he'd stop there, but in comparison to Tartaglia's fury writ on his own face, He Xuan's on the other male's face is full of pained frustration. At himself for not saying enough, but also at Tartaglia's words. Though certainly not the same kind of unrestrained anger by far. So this time he even says a little more than he intends. ]
Do you believe I originally desired to exist like this? After I took care of that trash from my home town, I died that day. And then the creature that desired to consume what was left of me came to collect. It was either oblivion or I overpowered it with whatever hatred I had to do what to it what it wished to do with me.
no subject
[ Who cares about what other people know? Should what He Xuan confides to anyone else mean anything to him? ]
Was I that inconsequential to you? Like I matter.
[ Signora and then Zhongli, and now He Xuan, too? He can't look at him anymore. Don't expect that from him. Tartaglia just starts walking, walking, upset with how slow the anger is to fade. Was it so much that he was asking for? After all of that, it wasn't worth mentioning, not even in passing, until he forced his hand?
Humiliated, Tartaglia comes to a sudden, lurching stop, shoulders ostensibly heaving. ]
Even if you told me, nothing about your past would change. But I would understand you better.
no subject
...You're many things, but I wouldn't call you that.
[ He can only watch as the other moves away.
But all the same, he doesn't have anymore to say to that, as the other man continues to walk off, so that he can stop, some ways from him.
And then at that very moment, he sees the way the other's shoulders shake. Perhaps this was more of an eventuality; making someone he'd never thought he would make upset. He doesn't look down on the other male for it, he'd never. With the knowledge that he is simply likely to make it worse, no matter what he says, because he acts so foolishly so far, he can only continue to speak. Maybe until Tartaglia would wish if he hadn't at all. ]
But, what else would you like to know, Tartaglia? I could tell you everything, so that you would understand. [ ... ] Or you can try to turn your rightful frustration on me, even when I'm like this. When we both have little but our hands and feet to work with.

[ Feels so horrible, like his voice is growing smaller and smaller in his throat, shrinking until it's infinitesimal, his throat closing up so there's only awfulness left inside. Righteousness isn't what's blatantly on display; it isn't even indignation, it isn't justice for some greater and incessant good, just selfishness come tearing into everything. ]
Even you kept something this important from me.
[ How pathetic. How weak Tartaglia could become, over something that should be so insignificant. As if he gives any damn about notions of godhood or being alive or being dead or stranded some ways between the two, miserable beyond repair and turned away to cry in earnest now. Crying, transfixed on this crazed state of affairs and this heart that's so prone to hurting others, as if Tartaglia spares anyone else these secrets he keeps, burying so much of himself in deflections.
Why? It doesn't matter. Hasn't he hurt other people all along? What good would a fight be? ]
I'm just angry... angry at myself for thinking otherwise, because I'm worse. [ Oh, he's kept plenty of things from He Xuan, and it's the hypocrisy that stings the most ardently. ] You know nothing about me.
[ Not even his real name. ]
no subject
I'd never intended to hide it. That it didn't come up before now...it doesn't mean I think so little of you.
[ He Xuan doesn't think he can keep himself away for so long, even if in retrospect those steps aren't exactly truly the distance of mountains. Tartaglia is still within distance, can't even look at him. But, he feels the ache grow with each sound of sorrow that escapes from the other man. If Crimson Rain knew that he would have allowed himself to be so affected by someone else like this, be unable to keep away despite the fact he had no intention of getting so close to anyone, even he who kept someone close to his heart would likely think him weak.
But where He Xuan might have looked with disdain upon someone else who wanted to know more from him getting upset over it, he doesn't with Tartaglia. It's because despite everything, despite all that's happened...he's always wanted for the other man to know more. To be close to him. To know him more than anyone else here.
So, perhaps, that's why he inadvisably steps closer, when he wouldn't normally. He wonders, idly, if he should be upset that the man put him on a bit of a pedestal. But in the end, for something like this, he can't. He Xuan wonders what that says about himself. Maybe it's just irrevocable proof he's been the ultimate fool all along, but in all honesty, he thinks that enough anger and hurt feelings have transpired between them. So he simply asks one question, quietly: ]
Are you, Tartaglia?
[ Though all the same, he doesn't exactly reach out, even upon stepping closer. ]
You also claim that I know nothing about you, but I hardly think that's true. Someone can tell another their entire life story and still know them little in the end. And even if what you said is true, I see no reason to continue keeping each other in the dark.
no subject
Lacking tenderness, Tartaglia's dragging a sloppy hand over his face, scrubbing out the rest of the tears. He isn't so principled that's accomplished well; all of these problems compound and the damage is horrible and self-inflicted. It just gets worse, dealing with such seriousness here when nothing's present that can dial it back.
Turns out that he doesn't want reconciliation, in the end. ]
And if I say something you disagree with, you'll strike at me? Just like before?
[ So much of it is just ego. Even Tartaglia has his dignity, wounded and not at all placated. Of course, it's also his own fault. Maybe it would've been easier if He Xuan defused it another way, rather than wearing his face and saying things that he didn't ask for. Never was he expecting to be answered like this. ]
Sorry. I think I'll be disappointing you again.
[ Tartaglia pulls away. ]
I only wanted your reason. ... Don't follow me. I'm taking some time for myself.
[ It'll be a little easier to withstand this when he isn't looking at his own face, and he turns curtly, striding off. ]
Bye.
no subject
Reconciliation is something he has never tried for. But, he wanted to prove that he's more than his anger, wrath, or any resentment, among other things. Yet in the face of this, it isn't as if he isn't frustrated or upset either.
Those words cut. The only thing he wanted was his reason?
He Xuan doesn't bother bidding him good-bye, simply gritting his teeth, and then glowering at his back as the other strides off.
...But the anger leaves him, deflating as soon as it comes. He Xuan is used to feeling bitter and angry. Even if, originally, he was never like that. The type of man who would never wish the worst on his enemies, up until the worst had been wished upon him, and then he learned what it meant to hate, to grieve. Wallow in despair, and then eventually desire comeuppance at a great cost.
Of course, he doesn't follow. Instead, like last time he lingers, until he's certain the other has made such a distance that they won't even accidentally run into each other. But, He Xuan makes sure he will avoid any chance to see his reflection if he can. ]
