The unrelenting summer heat has begun to let up as of late and those who make a habit of reading the news will know why: a hurricane is set to make landfall on Summer 16th. Spread the word to your neighbors and keep your loved ones and animals indoors. Expect that there may be some damage to your property, field and trees!

Fortunately, the hurricane brings with it only moderate wind and rain. Once the storm subsides and the whipping winds calm, you’ll be handed a letter by one of the Goddess’ many sprightly fairies who look quite a bit healthier and happier than they used to. Some of them look like they’ve been hitting the gym while others have a nice set of shiny new acrylic nails on their fingertips. Good for them.

Anyway, the letter details an upcoming event hosted by the Goddess: the first annual date auction. She has considerately included a form with her letter inviting islanders to volunteer as dates to be auctioned away while others have been voluntold. Oof. With the promise of a fabulous and extravagant vacation for those participating, the reward may very well be worth the price of entry.

With more news to announce, she requests that everyone meet up in the Town Plaza. The task board hasn’t seen any mid-season additions, but the upcoming date auction and the recently opened mines promise to keep islanders well occupied through the rest of the season.

This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.

It’s time to d-d-d-date auction! Participation is highly encouraged by both the Goddess and her pushy little helpers. Every islander received a form delivered to them by said pushy fairies that contains the following application:

Describe yourself in three sentences or less:
List three of your best and worst qualities:
If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be and why?
Describe your ideal romantic partner:
Why should the auction attendees bid on you?

...You may have noticed that the form does not include a section for your name. That’s because this is a blind auction in which bidders must place their bids based only on the information provided in their application. Love is blind, as they say!

While some people may eagerly volunteer themselves to be auctioned away, those who are less bold may have been signed up to participate by a friend, neighbor, or the Goddess herself. In so many words, if you’d like to sign your character up but don’t believe they’d willingly volunteer to be auctioned, worry not! You may use the Goddess (or another character) as your convenient excuse so sign them up anyway.

Submit your applications here by the 20th at 12pm EST. The date auction will go live on the 21st at 12pm EST.

As mentioned in the overview, all auctioned off parties and their winning bidders will win an all expenses paid trip... somewhere. The Goddess’ lips are sealed as to the destination, but you get the feeling this trip will be quite a bit more than you bargained for.

The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.

Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.

Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.

This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.

Find someone who...

1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white

Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.

Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.

Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:

1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.

2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.

3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.

Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.

1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.

2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.

to the mines!

The once abandoned mines have been reopened and are now accessible to any brave islanders who wish to explore their depths! But be warned: doing so may come at a cost. Will you take the risk and come out on top with rare and otherworldly treasures, or will you trip and sprain your ankle after stumbling over a small rock? Only one way to find out!

OOCly, the mines can be explored once per week and exploration is undertaken in a cyoa-style thread. The mines are a permanent feature and can be accessed now until the end of the game. Have fun!

[ Bring it, Yuri! Flynn dutiful moves his left foot onto another blue dot, but he lifts his head to frown up at Yuri as he does it. ]

That's not how the rules work. You say a color and I say the body part, and then we switch. Green.

[ He'll just demonstrate! How this is played by someone who isn't a cheating cheater! ]

We sure will.

[ Yuri doesn't even look so much as deterred in the slightest at the frown in his direction. He's used to the whole, 'Disapproving of Yuri's shenanigary' frown patented by one Flynn Scifo. ]

Now, wait a minute. You said a color and body part in the beginning. So, doesn't that mean you broke the rules too?

[ He says, as if that excuses his obvious rules-breaking. ]

But, left foot.

I was using the spinner. It's not the same thing. But if you want to throw it back and forth--

[ Oh, Yuri chose this on purpose to be mean. Flynn has to twist himself awkwardly around to get his left foot crossed behind him onto the green. Jerk. ]

You pick the color next.

[ And then Flynn's going to decide what the rudest thing he can do in return is. ]

And how isn't it the same thing?

[ Yuri certainly did. He is giving himself quite the pat on his own back here. Though, he does know that the other doing something to get back at him is inevitable. ]

I'll pick...red, of course. Speaking of which, it looks like you're doing real well over there. Let's see how long you can keep it up, though.

[ He is just asking for retribution at this point... ]

Because the spinner is impartial.

[ Flynn stares at the board. He stares at Yuri. And with deliberate, tactical calculation, he decides: ]

Left hand.

[ Take that, Yuri. Yuri has the advantage in a game of flexibility anyway, so Flynn has to play a little cheap. ]

Is it really?

[ Yuri asks, knowing how ridiculous the question is anyway. He just wants to see how long he can keep up this ridiculous argument now (why is he like this we just don't know.) ]

...Is that you trying to get back at me? Well, it's not going to work, I hope you know that.

[ He says simply and just like that, he'll be next moving his hand, over his other hand because it's probably positioned like in such a way he has to do with a little criss-crossing. ]

Oh yeah? Are you sure about that?

[ Yeah, Yuri's confident for a reason. It's fine. Flynn didn't really expect to get him that quickly... is what he'll tell himself.

He might be just a little disappointed, though. ]

You never do go easy on me. Alright, blue.

[ Yuri can't make his life that much harder with blue, can he? He's pretty sure. He profoundly hopes. ]

I'm sure.

[ A plus to being ambidexterous, perhaps. But honestly he has always been more flexible and always happy to capitalize on it; it explains some of his more ambitious maneuvers in combat, for example. One who has such equal balance is good at performing those movements. And things like the ones he is doing now, compared to others. ]

If I did go easy on you, you'd hate it. You know it's true.

How about...right hand on blue? You're getting far too much out of having both of your hands free.

I am not. Because I play by the rules--

[ He's just going to throw that back at Yuri again! For good measure!

He plops his hand down, heaving a small sigh of relief. That one wasn't so bad, and might have actually made him more stable, if anything. What was all that knightly training for if not enduring tortuous rounds of Twister? ]

Left foot.

[ ...It's a little harder to glance up and try to strategize with his head down like this, though. This, too, is endurance training. ]

Whatever you say, Flynn.

[ Yuri will say in a teasing manner, just because he can, and of course, with a cheeky smile on his face because he is just like this, apparently.

At the call of the limb, he's going to choose the color himself, naturally. ]

Well, I guess I'll end up playing yellow, then. Not too much of a bad color for me, though.

[ Putting his left foot on yellow~ ]

Right foot for you this time. Aren't you lucky?

[ Flynn is entirely too polite to curse. And much too preoccupied to look up and see what the worst thing would be for Yuri. Fighting defensively has to be the priority here. ]

Yellow!

[ He's moving his foot almost before he finishes saying it, because, oof. That position was getting hard to hold. He's kind of converging towards the middle of the mat though. Soon he'll be encroaching on Yuri's space. ]

Now yours. Do green.

[ It's okay, Flynn, if you curse, Yuri is the last person to judge. ]

I guess for this time, it'll be right foot.

[ Inching closer and closer to Flynn's spot. This is making him start to stretch a bit; it's too bad the game hasn't been popular back home, it could be a good way to get a work out. Anyway, they're only one spot away from one another, so them clashing (or crashing?) is inevitable at this point. ]

Left hand, for you.

[ The last to judge, and also the last to let Flynn forget it. ]

Red—

[ Plunking his hand down as he says that. Flynn is tall, but he's not meant for contortionist antics. He'll leave that to Yuri, generally speaking.

He's already starting to wobble. He can't even remember whether he's supposed to tell Yuri a color or a body part, so: ]

Your turn. Left foot...!

[ Even years later, Yuri would bring it up when they're doing nothing of importance, never letting Flynn live it down. ]

Of course I'll choose blue.

[ And Yuri, ever so innocently, has to place a foot nearby Flynn's. If, before he settled his foot, he impishly poked at one of Flynn's feet, hey. It's no skin off his back.

What's sticking to the rules and not causing trouble for his blond bestie? Impossible. ]

[ Flynn makes an outraged little noise because Yuri is a cheating cheater who cheats. ]

Yuri, that's against the rules.

[ And it's compromising his already precarious balance. Flynn wobbles a little more, trying valiantly to catch himself. He can do this, if only he gets more stability soon. ]

P-pick the next one already!

[ Neener neener. ]

Hey now, it isn't like I knocked you over or anything.

[ He's clearly messing around though, just having fun while Flynn is fighting for his life over here. ]

...You know, I think I might need a moment to think about this one.

[ If he gets glared at for hours on end then he'll deserve it. ]

I'm sure you'll try that next.

[ So Mister Yuri Lowell, how does it feel to be simply the worst? Flynn's limbs are trembling as he hangs on for dear life and then... slips, and collapses into a messy pile.

It would serve Yuri right if he takes Yuri out with him. ]

[ Yuri's going to be laughing until he realizes Flynn is tumbling right onto him, taking him down as well with an 'oof'.

...A moment of silence for their gaming coming to an end.

But, another snicker comes from him soon enough, despite the fact that they're in a pile. ]

See? I didn't try to knock you over. You did it all on your own.

[ RIP Yuri Lowell: you did this to yourself. There could be no more fitting eulogy.

For a moment Flynn just lies sprawled on the Twister mat, blinking over at Yuri. Then the first chuckle bubbles up from him. ]

I did not. It would serve you right if this doesn't count because you cheated.

[ Yuri doesn't bother getting up, seemingly content to lay around some on his end. ]

Heh, as if it wouldn't. It says 'Play Twister', but nothing about how we play it.

[ ...And it was actually real fun. ]

Anyway, I'll whip up something for the both of us in a bit. That make it better?

[ If Flynn is still squishing Yuri, he'll give one little bounce just to avenge himself. Take that for your brilliant cheating strategy, Yuri. But he shifts to free Yuri afterwards. ]

That's a fair trade. Then I'll take care of cleaning this up.

[ Wow! ]

Hey!

[ Anyway, he can't protest too hard, given Flynn sneaks away soon enough. He absolutely deserved that, though. ]

You've always been better at cleaning up then I have, so go ahead.

That isn't something to be proud of, Yuri.

[ Yuri deserved that! And he deserves the gentle ribbing. Flynn's seen his room, the last time he was there to leave a ~~love letter~~ letter of challenge to a coliseum battle. ]

So in order words, it's something I should be proud of, got it.

[ Gasp, clearly Flynn was proud of how it looked and that is why he was compelled to leave his little love letter invitation to the coliseum—

Jokes aside, he'll probably go head into the kitchen to get started on food properly... ]

[ Flynn devoutly hopes Yuri can hear him rolling his eyes all the way in the kitchen!!

The real joke is when Flynn quickly finishes straightening up and goes to poke his head in to see what Yuri is doing. ]
