dec mid-month event.
mid-month event
With Crescentview’s newest citizens settling nicely, the Goddess has summoned everyone back to Town Square for another round of announcements. This time, her summons comes to you in the form of a hand-written note. If you happen to be out working in your field, one of her fairies will hand it directly to you, looking a little more sprightly than they did the first time you saw them. Otherwise, expect to find her request/demand to meet up in Town Square in your mailbox.
introducing: the memo board
The Memo Board is now available in Town Square. You may post messages here to your fellow neighbors, send out requests for assistance on the farm, or even solicit local singles for hot dates! Post whatever you like whenever you like. You can even post messages to the board anonymously if you so desire. The Memo Board is available here.
But wait, there’s more! The Goddess has given everyone a fun relationship-building exercise. How well do you know your neighbors? Can you identify them based on their writing alone?
By December 22nd - 12:00pm EST, please have your character submit an anonymous message to be posted to the Memo Board. Their message can be about anything they’d like and there is no length requirement or restrictions. After submissions have been received, characters will be given an opportunity to review everyone’s messages and guess which character wrote which memo. Answers will be revealed on December 29th - 12:00pm EST. A single correct guess will earn you a horse while each additional correct guess will net you a vegetable, flower, or mushroom spore seed bag of your choice. Good luck and have fun!
it's time to dance!
Every Spring 15th, the annual Flower Dance is held in Town Square. Villagers gather to dance with one another and celebrate the upcoming harvest and offer their prayers to the Goddess. Folks are encouraged to dance not just with those they fancy, but their fellow neighbors as a way to express gratitude and appreciation for the friendship and company they provide.
ICly, the dance takes place on Spring 15th and goes from 9am to 9pm.
task board
In addition to the tasks currently available on the Task Board, a handful of new additions have been added. You may continue to work on tasks from the previous event in addition to these new tasks, but please note that tasks may only be completed within the month they are assigned. Summer starts next month, so please have all of your tasks completed and submitted by then!
The new additions are as follows:
1. Post a notice on the Memo Board. Stick up an anonymous memo and earn a single chicken or rabbit to add to your coop. You may post as many notices as you like, but you will only redeem the reward once.
2. Correctly guess who posted a memo. Discuss these anonymous notes with one another and guess who may be the author. Between December 22nd and December 29th, submit your IC votes (link coming on the 22nd) and if you guess correctly, even just once, you will get a horse! You may guess as many times as you like, but you may only redeem this reward once.
3. Partake in the Flower Dance. Pick a partner for a round of dancing, pray to the Goddess, or just celebrate the good times! For every person that you celebrate the event with, you will receive a random bag of seeds of fruits, vegetables, flowers, or mushroom spores. This task can be completed 5 times.
4. Send a letter to your neighbor. This requires you to have acquired the stationary set from the first event, so if you haven't claimed it yet, get to it! You can post letters directly on the main community or set up an inbox in your journal to send and receive hand-written letters. For each letter that you send, you will get a random gacha item. This task can be completed 3 times.
5. Harvest your crops. On the 14th, you'd be surprised to find that all of your crops are now ready for picking - even if you've only planted them the day before. The crops look bright, flavourful, and ready to be picked, so eat them, trade them, sell them, whatever! For every interaction that you have involving the bountiful harvest, you will receive a new set of clothes. This task can be completed 3 times.

I'd be honored. [He smiles a bit as he removes one of his gloves, keeping it in hand as he extends the bare one to take Adelis'.] Enjoying the dance?
no subject
Well enough. [ adelis takes the offered hand, no longer somewhat jarred at the odd feeling of the other's skin. he, however, has returned to being somewhat cold. ] I must admit, it's far more lively than I anticipated.
[ still, he looks healthier than last time, since he guides the other man towards the dance floor with a practiced ease. this isn't his first rodeo. ]

[ when he turns, he shifts the grasp of their hands , and reaches a hand to settle it on syrlya's shoulder. he's moreso familiar with ballroom, but if he's cheating because there's a certain choice of slow dance on his card, well...nobody has to know. ]
You'd be hard-pressed to find reasons for jovial celebrations where I hail from...at least, for the lowborn. It's far more...carefree then what I happen to be familiar with.
no subject
Is a 'waltz' a dance you know? It's a human dance I learned years ago that isn't so energetic. Perhaps your people call it something else.
no subject
I'm familiar with it. It's also known as a ballroom dance, since it's mostly used at larger-scale gatherings.
[ not that he's been to many of those, mind you. luckily, there's enough space that they're not too crowded when adelis begins to the lead the taller man. ]
And do your people dance differently?
no subject
He shuffles the rest of the way into position for the waltz just in time for Adelis to take the lead. He has no problems following, though his initial steps are cautious as he reminds himself how the dance goes.]
Twirling, jumping... most often we simply move in what way feels right. I don't believe anything so structured has caught on among us, but we do enjoy dancing together.
no subject
he finds himself raising a mildly curious eyebrow at that, churning it over as they fall into a rhythm. ]
I see. [ files that away... ] It sounds far less formal and stuffy, at the very least. You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone dancing like this outside of ballrooms and extravagant parties.
no subject
He chuckles.] Yes, I've seen a couple parties the human nobility partake in. A lot of social rules we Sylvari haven't needed, but the gowns were lovely. I was there for business, however.
no subject
I've little love for them, myself. [ he's not ashamed to say it, although he gives a mildly amused chuckle at the explanation. ] And I've also only ever attended for business. As an escort, or besides. Truth be told, I find this far less fraying on the nerves.
[ sure, it's far too carefree and cheerful than he's used to, but the lack of nobility and numerous other factors...well, he'll take flower crowns and simplicity over the dark side of Nov Ostoyan parties. ]
no subject
Mm, I would rather a less demanding celebration as well. Hard to enjoy a party when you have to worry about politics.
no subject
[ and he hated every second of it. seeing how the rich live is one thing, but the more carefree aura and wastefulness they showed were nothing short of repulsive. ]
I prefer to keep myself out of politics and in the shadows. Business is one thing, the affairs of the influential are another.

Hardly anything impressive. [ there are some things better left unsaid. ] Whatever required a silver tongue or an open ear. I dealt mostly in information, however- I've made a living off being quick and quiet.
no subject
no subject
If you insist.
[ well, he's curious himself, so there's no harm in asking. he waits for a few more steps before he shifts his grip on the other's hand. ]
And, pray tell, what about you? You seem like a fairly put-together man.
no subject
[Still, it often came down to him to wrangle every other world leader to focus on the apocalypse. Definitely among the worst parts of the job.]
no subject
Quite the noble cause. [ quite the opposite of his own, really, to the fact it's almost funny. he won't voice that, however. ] I can't say I've ever had the chance to ever lay eyes on a dragon, but I imagine it must be a formidable task.
[ now that's definitely a tall-tales thing. he's seen cursed beings, undead abominations, the wisps of creatures that leave gore and blood caked in the mud thick as a bog, but dragons...that's a new one. ]
A swordsman, then?
no subject
[Oh, but, his gaze comes back to Adelis with a slight smile as he guesses correctly.] Swords and magic, yes, though I have training in other weapons. If I need not be brandishing a blade, a staff is subtle. Slower to kill, though.
no subject
I well, it’s hardly easy to unlearn. The caution, and constantly looking over your shoulder, waiting for something to come for you. I imagine it will take quite a while get to adapt to something so unnatural to them.
[ this is him speaking from experience, seeing as how he has to yet to do so himself. this island is so peaceful, and yet adelis thinks he’ll never stop locking his doors and slipping knives under his pillow.
well, that’s just him. he finds his attention slipping back at his correct assumption, but his eyebrows do raise somewhat at the continuation. ]
…A mage, are you? A few of my previous…compatriots could use it, but it’s exceedingly rare in my home country. Most are frightened of what they do not understand.
no subject
This all is a suitable distraction however.] Is that so? Tyria is flush with magic, but controlling it does take dedicated training. Still, it is well studied and we have had some fascinating breakthroughs in its behavior.
For those of us who do practice, we specialize in a particular form of it. I am a Mesmer, so I manipulate illusions and chaotic energy. Though something about this island interferes with it.
no subject
There are no gods in Etharis, and so there's practically no divine magic. We are taught to mistrust it from a young age. Personally, however, I could care less. I've little love for superstitions.
[ he finds himself tilting his head at that, although it doesn't disrupt his steps. curious... ]
The term is unfamiliar to me, but it sounds as if it has it's uses. My intimate knowledge is limited, but from what I know, the main users of magic tend to be practiced Wizards. It's highly expensive, and ridiculously regulated. [ thus, not on his radar. ] There are also sorcerers, who's power stems from their blood...they're more mistrusted, and tend to be felons and fugitives.
no subject
Those are generic terms. Not common ones, but it wouldn't really define much except a profession which is predominately magic--such as a Mesmer.
[He tilts his head, the opposite direction Adelis does. There is one important correction to make though--either it will confuse or clarify Adelis' understanding.] Though it is not divine magic. It is an element of the land of Tyria itself, as inherent as the air and earth.
[He lifts his hand to trace a wave through the air, for emphasis.] Its ley lines both hold Tyria together and mold it, and it is upon that which all of its life flourishes. And thusly allows people like mine to exist. I suppose if your world has little natural magic and relies on gods... I can see why it must be inaccessible.
no subject
Hmmm.
[ he absorbs the information quietly, listening rather raptly. magic is not his strong point, nor does he care to study or practice it, but it is interesting to see how it flourishes in places that aren't etharis. ]
Magic has numerous sources, although I wouldn't ask about details. [ he knows the basics, for necessities sake...and the syndicate has more knowledge than most. ] Ties to nature, stemming from curses or pacts...Divine was apparently simply one of the foremost ones, and now that it's nearly nonexistant, people are far more likely to persecute those few who use magic. After all, the gods have abandoned us...or perhaps they simply never existed at all. Nobody truly knows for sure.
[ a simple shrug, as it's the norm for him. ]
Then again, it sounds as if your home is quite rich in variety and life. Where I come from, there's little else besides human and undead- seeing all these otherworldly features has been as jarring as the sun itself.
no subject
Varied, yes. Tyria is home to many sorts. I wonder if the different levels of natural magic have to do with that difference?
[His gaze rolls up as he thinks on it.] So, they are sentient undead?
