jan mid-month event.
midsummer storms
The unrelenting summer heat has begun to let up as of late and those who make a habit of reading the news will know why: a hurricane is set to make landfall on Summer 16th. Spread the word to your neighbors and keep your loved ones and animals indoors. Expect that there may be some damage to your property, field and trees!
Fortunately, the hurricane brings with it only moderate wind and rain. Once the storm subsides and the whipping winds calm, you’ll be handed a letter by one of the Goddess’ many sprightly fairies who look quite a bit healthier and happier than they used to. Some of them look like they’ve been hitting the gym while others have a nice set of shiny new acrylic nails on their fingertips. Good for them.
Anyway, the letter details an upcoming event hosted by the Goddess: the first annual date auction. She has considerately included a form with her letter inviting islanders to volunteer as dates to be auctioned away while others have been voluntold. Oof. With the promise of a fabulous and extravagant vacation for those participating, the reward may very well be worth the price of entry.
With more news to announce, she requests that everyone meet up in the Town Plaza. The task board hasn’t seen any mid-season additions, but the upcoming date auction and the recently opened mines promise to keep islanders well occupied through the rest of the season.
This season’s crops are corn, onion, pumpkin, watermelon, and pineapple. Summer’s seasonal flowers are poppy, rose, sunflower, lily, and hydrangea. As for mushrooms, shimeji, trumpet, and common brown spores are available for the summer.
and... sold! first annual date auction
It’s time to d-d-d-date auction! Participation is highly encouraged by both the Goddess and her pushy little helpers. Every islander received a form delivered to them by said pushy fairies that contains the following application:
Describe yourself in three sentences or less:
List three of your best and worst qualities:
If you were a fruit, which fruit would you be and why?
Describe your ideal romantic partner:
Why should the auction attendees bid on you?
...You may have noticed that the form does not include a section for your name. That’s because this is a blind auction in which bidders must place their bids based only on the information provided in their application. Love is blind, as they say!
While some people may eagerly volunteer themselves to be auctioned away, those who are less bold may have been signed up to participate by a friend, neighbor, or the Goddess herself. In so many words, if you’d like to sign your character up but don’t believe they’d willingly volunteer to be auctioned, worry not! You may use the Goddess (or another character) as your convenient excuse so sign them up anyway.
As mentioned in the overview, all auctioned off parties and their winning bidders will win an all expenses paid trip... somewhere. The Goddess’ lips are sealed as to the destination, but you get the feeling this trip will be quite a bit more than you bargained for.
task board
The task board is located in Town Square and changes from season to season. In real time, a season is one month long. The following tasks are available from January 1st to February 1st and more tasks may be added mid-month.
Certain rewards are only available through event participation, so please keep this in mind when planning your threads. Multiple tasks may be completed within a single thread, but when turning in, please link to the individual tags in which each task was completed.
Finally, rewards are per character, not per farm, so those with housemates may want to coordinate with one another with regard to what animals you’re bringing home to your farm.
This month’s tasks are centered around getting to know your fellow neighbors on a deeper level. As such, the Goddess has put together a small human scavenger hunt to encourage people to learn more about the people they are living with — and hopefully falling in love with.
Find someone who...
1. Was born in the summer
2. Pours milk into their bowl before the cereal
3. Plays a musical instrument
4. Has more than 3 siblings
5. Works out 5 times a week or more
6. Doesn’t like animals
7. Would like to date the Harvest Goddess
8. Has traveled around the world
9. Speaks two or more languages
10. Is wearing socks that aren’t black or white
Each submission will earn you two random bags of summer seeds. Specify whether you want crop, flower, or mushroom spores in your submission. This task can be completed a total of 10 times.
Many ingredients used in wine production grow in the summer, but so do a variety of tea plants and grains. Grapes, tea shrubs and grains like wheat and barley can all be grown on your farm or in your greenhouse, if you have one.
Complete the following tasks to earn yourself some nice beverage-producing crops for the farm:
1. Take something from last month’s harvest and gift it to a neighbor. You can give it to them directly, cook it into a meal, etc. Alternatively, craft them a bouquet, flower crown, or another gift from the flowers you grew last season. Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grape starters.
2. Share a piece of hot gossip with a neighbor or exchange secrets with them. It doesn’t have to be your secret! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 tea starters.
3. Exercise with someone. Go on a run, swim in the ocean, help them stretch out! Complete 3 times for a total of 6 grain crops. You may choose from wheat, barley, rye, or rice.
Summer is the perfect time to hang out on the beach and splash around in the ocean. Participate in some summer fun at the beach and earn more animals for your barn and coop.
1. Swim in the ocean, build a sandcastle, or bury someone in the sand. Do any of the following for one of the following animals: cow, sheep, alpaca, or goat. This task can be completed once.
2. Participate in Hot or Not. It’s an annual tradition! Submit yourself or comment on someone else for a single chicken or rabbit. This task can be completed once.
to the mines!
The once abandoned mines have been reopened and are now accessible to any brave islanders who wish to explore their depths! But be warned: doing so may come at a cost. Will you take the risk and come out on top with rare and otherworldly treasures, or will you trip and sprain your ankle after stumbling over a small rock? Only one way to find out!
OOCly, the mines can be explored once per week and exploration is undertaken in a cyoa-style thread. The mines are a permanent feature and can be accessed now until the end of the game. Have fun!

[ Except they both know Flynn's well past being angry about that, and he doesn't even try not to laugh. The goddess' art skills from the pamphlet would suit that rather well, wouldn't they?
It is a great tragedy that Yuri doesn't have any serenade bingos. ]
I changed my mind. If they all start like that, I've heard plenty.
[ Especially if Yuri isn't going to help him with his bird nest situation? Monster? ]
no subject
[ Yeah, it's all water under the bridge now. Though it brings back memories; once coded in frustration now less bleak and something for the two of them to laugh about it at particular times.
...Not that he anticipates he would have a wanted poster of himself drawn up here. How bad can his luck be? Surely even here it wouldn't follow.
Also I absolutely forgot there were serenade bingos, crying.]You sure? It could get better as I go along.
[ Or rather, worse. Good luck with your bird nest situation, Flynn. You're all on your own there. ]
no subject
[ The forbidden concept, from this workaholic. But it's not the worst time to be away from his post for a little bit. Raven should be able to keep Empire-guild relations from burning down in the meantime, right?
Right?
He snorts a little at Yuri's teasing, finally abandoning his attempts at smoothing his hair down. It's... less bad? ]
You know I know you better than that. You're saving the worst for last.
no subject
[ Yuri asks, still allowing that teasing tone to easily sneak in. Why not? After all, they're still chilling around, taking it easy.
Livin' the dream. Literally, given it's a pleasant island getaway. Albeit one with the stipulation of being kidnapped to...? ]
All I'm hearing is the tune of 'ye of little faith'. I might be saving my best for last. What would you say then?
[ ... Yeah, no. Flynn has still got it right. ]
no subject
[ Not that he loves the kidnapped thing either. But all things considered, this is pretty tame. Provided they can find a way back.
He absolutely knows Yuri is blowing smoke, just like he had been in the mines. But when has he ever managed to turn down a challenge from Yuri? Especially when it's just the two of them. He leans in enough to elbow Yuri a little. ]
I'd want to know what you've been practicing for. Have you been holding out on me?
no subject
[ Yeah, Yuri's not about to let his guard down but so far it's been light-hearted shenanigary. Things that are easy to deal with.
...Stuff that's not so bad, y'know? But, he does receive the elbow graciously, as in definitely moving to elbow him back. In a very mature manner befitting his age. ]
Maybe I was practicing for secret reasons. Or maybe I wasn't even practicing at all. How would you ever know? But, I just might tell you on one condition.
[ Can he be serious for one second? Maybe. Not that he's in the mood to let up in messing around so easily. ]
no subject
[ Flynn's tone is bantering, but for a second he can't help but look a little wistful. It feels like too long since he's been able to visit. It's probably grown, hasn't it? ]
Hah. Alright, oh man of mystery. Let's hear your condition.
[ Yuri is Yuri, and there's something so soothing about that. At least, when Flynn doesn't need him to be serious. He won't let it make him completely lower his guard in this world... but he's still grateful. ]
no subject
[ ...but.
Yuri's own expression is a touch more soft here. He can't exactly help it either, just thinking about it. He can't believe he got reverse-uno carded here by Flynn Scifo of all people.
Is he going to complain, tho? No. ]
But, I guess it wouldn't be a bad thing to swing on by with you. There's something about seeing what it looks like with someone I know, and getting you away from becoming too much of a workaholic.
[ Anyway, as for the question, Yuri doesn't let Flynn wait in suspense for long, reaching into his pocket, and whipping it something right out so fast he deserves a medal!
Tada, it's the bingo. Just ignore some of the vaguely scandalous ones, it's fine. ]
This look familiar to you?
no subject
You make it sound like I'm unreasonable. It's just been busy.
[ ...And Flynn's unreasonable. Both can be true. He leans over to take a look at the bingo card, his eyes naturally gravitating towards the scandalous ones.
It's fine? It's fine. He's not going to say anything about those just at the moment. ]
Judith showed me hers. We do have a few in common... it's been a while since we've cooked together, hasn't it?
no subject
But all the same, neither of them can't pretend to be not affected by the whole 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' saying, eh. ]
Unreasonably busy.
[ Look at that, Yuri just tacks that on like it belonged there. Annnnd then reality hits him in the face really hard, when the cooking is brought up. He saves Flynn's dignity for pretending not to notice his eyes landing on said scandalous ones, though. ]
Let's think of trying something new together. I mean, we can always shelve the whole cooking aspect for a later time. [ As in never, are you trying to kill him, Flynn? ] For example, have you seen some of the other ones? Wearing a get along shirt, something called twister, feeding some nearby animals...
no subject
But Flynn gives a chuckle for Yuri's tiny correction and lets him get away with it. He doesn't mind letting Yuri have the win sometimes. ]
You sound like Judith. It's like neither of you can stand being still.
[ It's clearly that they're both restless people of action, and not that Flynn's cooking has been rejected twice... That isn't going to sink in until the auction. But he nods in easy agreement to Yuri's suggestions. One of those he definitely recalls from his own card! Which he isn't sharing yet. He thinks his scandalous options are a little more, well. ]
I have the "twister" one too. I think I saw that at the shop, actually. Will that make up for not getting to fight that fairy?
no subject
He also mildly enjoys his immunity given to him by Flynn, the comment passing by the stringent gates of the most noble knight in the land. ]
It's part of why the both of us get along so well.
[ Yuri says with a cheeky smile on his face. Anyway, it also looks like the duo's dodging of Flynn's cooking has served them well. When the male notices their sneakiness, though, that will be funny. ]
I guess it might. Especially if it involves some actual moving around...but, say, how about you show me your card too? Can't blame a guy for being curious, right? And we're going to be doing future activities together, so it makes sense.
no subject
[ Does Flynn have the guts to say that to Judith? Not in a million years. But his audience now is just Yuri, so he can gently roast him if he wants to.
He's already prepared to get them moving to the shop when Yuri asks that and he freezes like the proverbial deer in the headlights. Oh, Yuri is going to be insufferable about this. ]
What for? You'll have forgotten it by tomorrow.
[ No, wait. Yuri is only going to be insufferable if he senses the moment of weakness. As indifferently as can be, Flynn offers his card on over. Surely Yuri's many, many years of Flynn experience won't let him see through this flawless bluff. ]
no subject
Wow, like I haven't heard that one before.
[ Yuri says in absurd, and absolutely fake offence. Keep it up Flynn he will tell Judith the roastings you sent along the way in this conversation.
Also, this is exactly what Flynn gets for lowering his guard. ]
...Huh. Looks like we've some things in common. Though, a guy has to wonder if a pure knight like you would get up to doing some of this stuff at all while we're here.
[ Well, refrain from commentary on certain squares lasted very long. ]
no subject
It's not as though we have to do everything on here!
[ He still has 5 out of 12 bingo options that don't require smut. Yes, he counted. ]
And I'm perfectly capable of kissing someone. There aren't any rules against it for the knighthood, as you well know.
[ Him sounding increasingly stuffy about this is helping his case, isn't it? ]
no subject
Though, he certainly isn't above reaching for the low-hanging fruit, as it were. Just maybe not exactly the lowest one hanging around. ]
Nah, we don't. But your reaction's pretty priceless.
[ Luckily he's not the type to say any worse. He has enough sense for that. Though... ]
Uh huh. I guess it means you've been thinking of kissing someone, huh?
[ Maybe Yuri is going to get kissed with a fist, eh. ]
no subject
Of course I have. If I'm not willing to do that, I only have four possible bingos. And it seems simpler than some of the others.
[ Kissing? Straightforward. It doesn't even say it has to be on the lips. Flirting? ...Help. ]
no subject
Well, if you say so. It's not like you'd have much trouble in finding anyone to kiss you.
[ Anyways, he decides they've been standing around long enough, so he begins to veer towards the direction of the shop. ]
Let's go get whatever this 'twister' is.
no subject
[ He wonders what it means when Yuri says it, though. Somehow, he feels it can't be a good thing.
But off they go! They have a bingo square to complete. The shop isn't that big and the games selection hardly comprehensive. This is one easy quest to complete. ]
no subject
[ For Flynn's sanity, luckily he doesn't say anything else other than that.
Anyway, he fetches the twister game and asks the person selling stuff how it's played, and then bang, they're done, outside the store. As well as with the addition of a new game. ]
So, are we doing this at my house or yours?
[ Serious question. ]
no subject
I'm on the beach, so mine should be closer. How about there?
[ Not that he minds hiking all the way to Yuri's mountain hermitage near Judith, but still. ]
no subject
The beach will work. I could always make you go all the way to my place, but I'm sure we'll have enough time for hiking later.
[ At least Yuri has an idea of where the beach is, but he will more or less follow Flynn's lead at some point because there are multiple houses and he doesn't know which one is his. ]
no subject
This is the one. I wonder if Vicious is in right now.
[ The man seems a bit like a stray cat--like Yuri's long-lost cousin, to be honest. But he can just join them at Twister if so. Flynn shoulders the door open to let Yuri into his decrepit but painstakingly cleaned home. ]
no subject
[ Yuri is only mildly surprised, because he was fortunate to be given one by his lonesome, after all. Anyways, once he's entered into the home, he resists the urge to be shocked, remembering how well (not, lol) his own home looked when he had ample opportunity to gaze upon it.
At least Flynn takes care to keep things as clean as possible. ]
Would you look at that? It already feels like home.
no subject
[ Positive? Negative? Flynn gives a little laugh for that scrutiny and leads the way inside to start moving the dining table and chairs out of the way for this. ]
You know, it reminds me a little of the lower quarter. It looked a little worn down at first, but it just needed some work.
