I am excited to have you along for a group excursion to the mysterious new island! In two days' time, let us gather in the town square and set off from there! Please be prepared to stay the night. It will be so fulfilling and memorable for everyone to spend a night on an adventure together!

On the promised day, once everyone (and likely a few surprise tag-alongs) has gathered or been gathered, Ori distributes little paper bags of snacks to everyone. Inside are cookies, oat snacks, and a freshly-picked apple from her and M-21's orchard. Do with them as you please... Just don't let her catch you throwing it into the sea or something. 🥺 ]

Alright. I think we should head out, then! Thanks for coming along, everyone! I hope it'll be a great time. Oh, and please don't forget to drink plenty of water and use this incredible ointment I discovered on this island! It's called "sunscreen!" Tieflings don't really get sunburnt, but you should use it!

[ Ellis is somewhere in the corner, trying to be by himself with all of himself dunked inside the water except his head and seems to be spacing out.

Anyone who gets near him in the bath will feel an unnerving, void-like, emptiness. Fun. A rubber duck passes by, floating on the water. ]

[Oh that's... weirdly and uncomfortably familiar.

Otegine is pretty immediately startled in return, having made his way over to see if Ellis was alright or not. But the sudden, gaping emptiness gets him to take in a breath, stopping in his tracks.]

...Ellis? [Wait, he can't hear him, can he? He bites at his lip, before reaching out to tap at one of his shoulders.]

[framestory]

[ Even after the tap on the shoulder, Ellis remains still for a few more seconds before slowly turning his head to see Otegine. He smiles and waves at him a little. How can he help you?

The void-like feeling doesn't subside. ]

[The concern, in turn, is rising.]

Are you okay? You didn't get overheated or anything, did you? I mean, you look a little out of it.

[framestory]

[ Ellis shakes his head no. He doesn't have his notepad, but since he's basically in the corner, he'll write his message in the air with a finger in careful strokes. ]

I'm fine. Did you need me?

[passthrough]

[It takes him a second to catch up with the tracing, a flare of frustration at himself that he doesn't have a better way to talk to poor Ellis. But it's fleeting.]

No, nothing like that. It's just...

It feels a little, uh... alarming over here. I'm not sure if something happened to the water or not.

I just wanted to make sure nothing had happened to you. You're... pretty well liked by town, you know? [The concern and compliment both are sincere.]

Oh, uh... here. [He awkwardly holds out one palm, face up.] You can trace. I think I can do touch better than sight.

[framestory]

Is he really well liked by the town? Ellis doesn't think he's doing anything special, so that's a surprise to him. Otegine holding his hand out is nice though, so Ellis scoots closer to him so that we can write on his palm with his finger. Just two guys in an open air bath, getting close. Nothing to see here.

You're talking like a bodyguard.

[At the very least, there's no awkwardness coming off from Otegine about the situation! Sometimes you're used to living in a citadel with open baths with 50+ other men.]

Ah... it's a habit, I guess. Sorry.

You don't feel that too, do you? The... [He takes a second, trying to find a word to label the absolute lack of space that muffled his own feelings.] ... emptiness?

[framestory]

[ Emptiness? Ellis feels that on a daily basis, but then he looks down at the water.

...

Anyway, that emptiness? It's being chased off and being replaced with the emotional equivalent of musical frogs stampeding through the street. Nothing to see here!!

He shakes his head no. He's fine. Yeah. Don't worry about it. ]

[associative]

[ Hm... he really doesn't like that emptiness that he feels from Ellis, and it almost completely overrides his own relaxed feelings. It really is one thing to simply know someone feels nothing and to feel it himself.

Gaku wades over, picking up the rubber duck. ]

...Hey.

[framestory]

[ It takes Ellis several seconds to snap out of it, but then he registers that Gaku is within his presence, holding a rubber duck. The empty void doesn't recede right away in full, but it makes a gradual retreat followed by a peaceful calm to replace it. He smiles and waves a little.

However, the void is still there. ]

[associative]

[ ...Hm. He's simultaneously surprised and disappointed that the feeling recedes, but not completely. There's a strange mixture of emotions within him (that Ellis can surely feel too) as he approaches Ellis, stopping when he's right in front of him. ]

Do you like this or the hot springs more?

[framestory]

"Isn't this basically a hot spring?"

[ No. It is not. Also why is Gaku standing. At least sit in front of him... but then he feels Gaku's emotions too, and hes not sure where that's coming from and more confused on why he's feeling it. ]

[associative]

[ He does finally sit when he finds a good spot, but then he motions for Ellis to come closer and points to his lap. Come take the best seat in the house. ]

This is totally different. Open air baths and hot springs aren't even close.

[framestory]

[ Ellis looks over at where Gaku is pointing and he just. STARES. At him. ]

"We are not having sex here."

[associative]

[ ELLIS. WHY.

There's a flood of embarrassment coming from him as his face turns bright red. ]

Of course we aren't. Don't make things weird.

[framestory]

"You pointed to your lap while we're naked in the bath. I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to think. Everyone can see."

[ He very much doubts that Gaku is into it due to his status as an idol. ]

[He actually doesn't even seem spooked - instead, he just comes over to squat down.]

You doing alright, there?

[ Ellis continues to space out until he feels a presence? Someone being here? His eyes focus and then he sees Steinbeck.

...

He smiles a little and waves. Looks like he didn't catch what Steinbeck asked earlier. The void continues to linger. ]

[Hm.]

Enjoying the bath? Or no?

[framestory]

[ Ellis holds up one finger to tell him that he's enjoying the bath. He points to Steinbeck and tilts his head. What about him? Is he liking it?

Just assume the empty void-like feeling persists until otherwise mentioned! ]

I guess its alright.

[But his feelings, a bit uncertain, say otherwise.]

[ Hm.

Ellis feels some uncertainty for some reason. He feels like he's feeling things that aren't his to feel. He has no idea the open air bath shares emotions though, so that would solve most of his questions.

He doesn't have his notepad here, so he slowly writes in the air with his finger. ]

Been to better ones?

[He shakes his head after a moment, something panging like an old scar in terms of his feelings.]

Nah. I'm just not used to things as nice as this.
